Ons d**k aan die mans en vroue wat dag en nag werk om die brande te blus. Ons bid vir julle. Hieronder is n lysie wat hulle benodig en waar dit afgelaai kan word.
Mayor Gesie van Deventer and Municipal Manager Geraldine Mettler have extended their sincere thanks to our brave men and women on the frontlines.
The Mayor and MM are in constant communication with key roleplayers and are confident that we are doing everything we can to put out this fire. They wish all affected communities well, plead for calm and ask that we all keep the firefighters and affected residents in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
We have received several requests from the community on what they can do to support the fire fighting teams. All donations can be dropped off at the Fire Station in Cluver Street, Stellenbosch. Our teams need the following supplies:
Bottled Water
Eye Drops
Lip balm
Energy drinks like Power Aid/Energade
Rehidrat packs
Energy Bars
Protein Bars
Pre packed Biltong or Droë Wors
Space blankets
Plasters
Vaseline
Please, no hot meals or ready made meals.
We urge all residents to stay safe, adhere to requests by law enforcement and the firefighters and to cooperate by keeping essential routes open and free of traffic. Residents in the vicinity of the fire, in particular the Jonkershoek Valley, are advised to take some precautionary steps including:
➡ Remain Hydrated.
➡ Keep windows and doors closed until further notice as protection against smoke and heat.
➡ Keep pets indoors where possible.
➡ Move garden furniture that is flammable under cover where possible.
➡ If the situation gets worse, residents will be alerted timeously.
