Walking Like Jesus
Holy Spirit Empowered – Day Two
Galatians 3:1-5
Being a Christian is so hard! Have you ever heard someone say that, or have you said that before? The reality is that it is impossible for us to walk like Jesus when we try to do so in our own strength. You see, no matter how hard you try, how devoted you are or how intentional you might be, we cannot walk like Jesus unless we are filled with the Spirit.
Take Peter for example. On the night when Jesus was arrested, Peter denied even knowing Jesus. Now, did Peter fail because he didn’t have good teaching? Well, he followed the best Teacher the world has ever seen. Was it because he didn’t know Jesus was the Messiah? Well, he himself proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ. Was it because he wasn’t discipled enough? Well, he walked with the Master discipler for nearly 4 years.
Fast forward to the day of Pentecost. This same Peter who cowered and hid and denied Jesus, now boldly proclaims the message of Jesus Christ. Even when arrested and questioned by the Sanhedrin, Peter speaks boldly, never missing the opportunity to proclaim that Jesus is the Messiah.
What changed? Did he try harder? Was he more devoted? Was he perhaps more intentional? Well, none of the above. He was filled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. That’s what made the difference.
Today as you seek to walk as Jesus walked, in your home, at work, or while out and about, don’t try harder or be more intentional or try being more devoted. Simply pray and ask the Spirit to fill you today, to empower you to walk as Jesus walked.
Prayer for today:
Father, help me to be more dependent on your Spirit and less focused on my own efforts. Fill me with you Spirit today so that I may walk as Jesus walked. Amen
