"No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying."

Philippians 3:13-14 "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” - Mark 10:47

This wonderful story is about spiritual sight as well as physical sight. Bartimaeus, who is blind, can already see (by faith) who Jesus is, and he wants to see with his eyes too.

Bartimaeus understands that Jesus is “the Son of David”—that is, the promised Savior. And his plea, “Have mercy on me,” has become the cry of all who look to God for help. Though he is blind, Bartimaeus sees the truth about Jesus.

When Jesus asks him, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus asks for physical sight. So Jesus, in his mercy, adds physical vision to Bartimaeus’s spiritual sight.

The disciples and the large crowd following Jesus do not yet clearly see who Jesus is. But Bartimaeus, the blind man at the roadside, can see this! By faith he understands that Jesus is the promised Savior. And in this story we see that the mission of Jesus is to meet our needs with his mercy.

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Like Bartimaeus, we can call on Jesus in faith, knowing that he can provide the grace and mercy we need.

“Open my eyes, Lord; I want to see Jesus.” I want to know the wonders of his grace for me and to follow him in faith. Amen.

1. Deuteronomy 7:9, “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” – Here we learn of His faithfulness as a determined and stubborn-like steadfastness towards blessing His people for their obedience. God is faithful, and He loves to bless His obedient people!

2. Psalm 36:5, “Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” – David set about describing God’s perfections, but it would have been an incomplete word had he not told of His faithfulness. God is faithful, and you can’t outreach His faithfulness!

3. Psalm 119:90, “Your faithfulness endures to all generations.” – The 176-verse-long psalm is all about the excellencies of God’s Word. Yet, even these great truths rest of this fact of His character. God is faithful, and you can’t outlive His faithfulness!

4. Lamentations 3:22-24, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”” – This lamentation got interrupted by the goodness of God. Even in our darkest days, we can rest in this. God is faithful, and you can’t use up His faithfulness!
