Ms Nikhila Henry
Too young to be a journalist. That’s what she has heard throughout her 10-year long career which she spent writing for two national dailies in India; first The Times of India for eight years and now The Hindu for two years. She thinks she might hear this friendly taunt which fellow journalists and senior bureaucrats pass on for a few more years to come. For her, however, being young while reporting stories which concern this generation and the coming one will always be the thing she cherishes the most in her writing career. Not because blazing ephemeral youth is to be reminisced forever, but because these stories, the ones she has reported and the ones she hopes to report, constitute an account of the turbulent times that we live in. A record of sorts which will explain why the future turned out the way it did.
When she started writing, print media was different from what it is now. Though those who have spent more than three decades in this world might not call this change drastic, she believes from 2007 till 2017 during which she covered youth agitations of varied kinds, a new language of writing was invented. A language which young people who struggled to change their lives and archaic laws and practices which govern society developed. To explain herself and her work, she will hence have to explain the struggles of this generation who forced a change in the media climate across the globe.
When she started reporting in Hyderabad, she concentrated mostly on educational institutions. Everyday she wrote stories on governmental policies and academic curriculum.

[[[Spotlight on....CARIBBEAN!!!]]]
As a member of the Guyana Congregational union and a Youth leader, I have great expectations of the youth forum. Firstly, I expect to meet and interact with Christians from different parts of the world and also to learn about their various cultures. Secondly, I expect the facilitators and presenters of the youth forum to create an environment where the participants of the forum will be able to exchange their views, share thoughts and dialogue with each other on the topics that will be presented on throughout the forum; and at the same time gain knowledge that we the participants can take back to educate persons in our local churches.

My favourite activities are Reading and Listening to music. I love reading because It engages my critical thinking and imagination skills. When I read, I learn more and I am entertained. I enjoy listening to music because sometimes it speaks for me. I believe most songs has a story or memory behind it and that is what I love. My interests are Sports, music, Government and politics, Arts and Culture. My favourite bible scripture is 1Timothy 4:12 and it says, "let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers in the word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith and in purity. Currently I'm serving as the secretary of the Guyana Congregational Young People's Union and I am also a Youth leader in my own church. ☺️🤩😃

As part of CWM’s 40th anniversary celebrations we are looking to the future as much as reflecting on the past. Because of this later this month we are running the Global Youth Forum (GYF) an event which will bring youth representatives from all of our member churches together to learn, share and explore faith together. The forum will be exploring the theme of: ‘Building Disciples in the context of Empire: Reimagining Church’. We are bringing speakers from around the world to share and inspire our young people with the hope that they will bring back a new bold vision of how church can be in the 21st Century to their communities and contexts. As a way of inspiring and encouraging our young people we have commissioned a local South African artist to design a logo which we are exicited to share with you now. We asked her to share why she chose the different aspects and her is what she said:

•The dove
The dove symbolises the Holy Spirit and God’s love covering the world in the mist of all the life’s denying forces, it is a reminder that we should be able to see God in the mist of life’s negative forces and hope for completeness in the earth’s brokenness.

•The fractured earth
The fractured earth signifies the brokenness, the sickness, the groaning and the failure to steward what the Lord has entrusted in us (Genesis 2:15). It’s the evidence of the empire’s power, theft division and ruin.

•The raised fist
The raised fist symbolises a rising generation of disciples engaging with the denials of fullness of life, confronting, claiming back and taking control of what the empire has killed, stolen and destroyed. It’s a hand fighting against oppression, economic injustice and ecological destruction. It is raised for life affirming inclusive communities, bringing about healing, reconciliation, restoration and paining a new image of God’s church.

•The African Safari
The African Safari is a preview of the African hospitality and journey towards a life of peace and a glimpse of the possibility of hope towards a peaceful and life-giving environment.
