Friends Family Vineyard Church

Friends Family Vineyard Church We are family of friends who believes that our highest calling is to love God, love people and serve our community.

Some other things about us: we are a work in progress, we meet in Somerset West Primary School Aftercare Hall and we like to have fun.

This post is both Friday's last youth of the term and today.

Youth: we hung out, played hard, celebrated a birthday, ate gourmet hotdogs and prayed.

Church today: we prayed for peace for our nation, protection of our foreign brothers and sisters and that we would see God move on 30 June.
We worshipped, it was such good time of worhship. The Holy Spirit Moved. We listened and learned. We hung out and drank coffee.

Last night's family dinner was a joyful experience. It was a cold evening so soup and bread worked well. We celebrated a birthday yesterday so the evening ended with cake.

How does family dinner work?
1. You let us know you are coming
2. You arrive and help set up the tables
3. Find a seat and hang out.
4. Next we go around the room and say what we are grateful for.
5. Supper.
6. The message for the night
7. Dessert
8. We all pack up and head home.

Happy Fathers's Day! We love Pete Greig wonderful, real, honest, amusing prayer.

A Prayer for Fathers Day

We pray today for dads:

+ New dads, granddads, stepdads, adoptive dads & solo dads.

+ Baldy ones, beardy ones, skinny ones & cuddly ones.

+ Dads who tell bad jokes & dads who dance to YMCA.

+ Dads who know how to fix things, & dads who just pretend.

Father to the fatherless, we pray for those for whom this day is sadder than it is happy:

+ Those who feel they have failed

+ Those who are grieving children they never had

+ Those missing their dads, or their children, even more than usual.

Father God, in a world where some dads are distant, absent or even abusive we lean into your ever-present love. You are faithful, especially to those of us orphaned, abandoned & hurt. "Even if my father abandons me, the Lord will hold me close" Ps 27:10

Father of Comfort, heal our wounds.Restore the dignity, integrity and centrality of fatherhood in our nation.“I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. And I pray that you may know love.” (St Paul)

And finally Lord, for all those poor souls everywhere who forgot that today is ,we ask you to bless them, in your abundant grace and manifold mercy, with the discovery of chocolate and half-decent card in surprisingly well-stocked convenience stores.

Amen.

Our Stories of Hope ladies event was inspired by Isaiah 61, especially verses 1-4.

Isaiah 61:1-4 ESV
[1] The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; [2] to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;
[3] to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
[4] They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.

We are so grateful for God's goodness and how He loves his daughters.

Today we acknowledged the loss that was experienced when Jesus died. And we celebrated what was gained when he conquered death. We chose to take off the grave clothes and walk with Jesus in the ressurected life. We get to live abundant lives, joy-filled lives, lives that reflect his peace.

Colossians 3:1-3 NIV
[1] Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
