VICAR-GENERAL OF THE PROVINCE, BISHOP STEPHEN DISEKO, SPEAKS OUT ON THREATS AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MIGRANTS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The Vicar-General, Bishop Stephen Diseko of the Diocese of Matlosane, is speaking out against threats and animosity against migrants in South Africa.

"While we believe that our immigration laws should be enforced, they should be implemented by the proper authorities and not vigilantes," he says.

Bishop Diseko is acting in the place of Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, who is on sabbatical in the Netherlands.

A chasuble and a dalmatic are both traditional liturgical vestments in Anglican worship, but they differ in function, form, and symbolism.
The chasuble is the outermost garment worn by a priest or bishop when celebrating the Holy Eucharist. It is typically sleeveless, flowing over the body, and symbolizes charity and the yoke of Christ. Its shape, often circular or oval, covers most of the wearer, emphasizing the sacred role of presiding at the altar.

The dalmatic, on the other hand, is worn by a deacon. It has wide sleeves and a more structured, tunic-like appearance, often decorated with vertical bands. The dalmatic signifies the deacon’s role in service, particularly assisting at the altar and in acts of charity. In simple terms, the chasuble is for the celebrant, while the dalmatic is for the assistant in ministry.
