“I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I did not hide my face from disgrace and spitting.” — Isaiah 50:6

At Easter, we are confronted with the suffering of Christ — not abstract, but deeply personal and willingly embraced. Jesus endured humiliation, rejection and pain, not as a victim of circumstance, but in obedience to the Father and in love for us.

This is why the message of the cross will always be the most important message we carry. It speaks to the deepest human need — forgiveness, restoration and reconciliation with God. No other message reaches as far, or transforms as completely.

In a world searching for answers, we do not outgrow this truth. We return to it, proclaim it, and live it: Christ suffered, Christ died, and through Him, we are made new.

This is the message we must never stop sharing.

Engaging the emerging generations has been a clear and consistent focus the previous week as we sought God’s heart for a truly multigenerational mission.

Our photos may reflect where we are in life, but they also tell a deeper story — a shared conviction that faith must be lived, passed on and engaged across every generation. From the MANI (Movement for African National Initiatives) Conference in Côte d’Ivoire, to the OC Global Alliance meetings, and into our own gatherings this week, this conversation remains firmly on the agenda.

This is not optional; it is essential for the future of the Church and its witness.

Please pray with us — for wisdom, humility and boldness — as we pursue meaningful, multigenerational faith engagement.

Today, as Paul and Barbara set out to meet the youth in Zandspruit, it seemed that obstacles surrounded them on every side. Paul was unwell, Barbara’s right leg became painfully difficult to use, and even the car refused to start. Yet, by God’s grace, they arrived — a little late, but ready to serve.

They were welcomed by the sound of young voices lifted in praise, making the most of the delay with joyful expectation. When Barbara met the youth leader, Nhlanhla, she remarked that one would not expect such resistance for a Valentine’s message on love. With quiet conviction, Nhlanhla replied, “Mama B, the impact is greater than you think.” Those words brought deep encouragement.

Together they explored the beauty of real love through 1 Corinthians 13, reflecting on each phrase and what it means to live it out. They then turned to 1 John 4:8 — “God is love.” The young people joyfully replaced the word “love” with “God”: God is patient. God is kind. Truth became personal, living and powerful.

As the evening closed in prayer, there was a shared awareness of God’s faithfulness. Even in weakness, His strength was evident. Even through difficulty, His purpose moved forward. It was a reminder that the Holy Spirit works beyond human limitation — and that what God is doing among the young people is greater than we can see.

May all of us who recognise that God is love persevere in our efforts and calling to show His love to those around us — young and old. God is love. Amen.

Networking for a shared vision of God’s mission.

Our One Challenge team recently hosted a gathering outside White River, a small, scenic farming and tourist town in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. Missional leaders from diverse communities and organisations came together and discovered meaningful common ground for connection and collaboration.

It was encouraging to see participants share, listen and prayerfully discern opportunities for partnership in the next steps of ministry. We are grateful to Tiago Alves da Silva and Suzana Fais for their generous hosting and for creating space for unity in the gospel.

We look forward to seeing how the Lord continues to work through these relationships as we come alongside leaders to equip disciple-makers across Africa.

Equipping the Next Generation of Disciple Makers

We are grateful to God for 87 young people from multiple congregations, denominations, and geographic areas across Gauteng who gathered at the Youth Leadership Conference, facilitated by Word of Life South Africa, in partnership with and supported by OC Africa.

It was inspiring to see what God is already doing among these young leaders—and exciting to imagine what He will continue to do through them. OC Africa is honored to come alongside this next generation to equip and encourage disciple makers who will impact their churches, communities, and beyond.

We look forward with faith and expectation as these young people step into God’s calling on their lives.

“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12
