Recently wrapped up an incredible trip in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia! 🇪🇹

Karl had the privilege of speaking at a regional leadership summit, joining leaders from across the Horn of Africa. The shared vision for this region is massive: working together over the next 10 years to establish over 200,000 healthy, holistic faith communities across eight nations.

A few highlights from the trip:

🤝 Expanding Partnerships: Spoke to nearly 100 leaders on the power of collaboration and shared best practices for working together to create lasting impact.
📈 Equipping Leaders: Facilitated team-building and strategy sessions with 15 sector leaders, focusing on everything from education and technology to relief and community development.
🎓 Empowering the Next Generation: Trained over 40 university students in practical coaching skills, empowering them to be purpose-driven leaders on their campuses and in their future workplaces.

We are so excited about the road ahead; especially the steps we’re taking with local partners like Tariku to build sustainable strategies that empower young emerging leaders.

Please keep these incredible leaders and students in your prayers as they put this vision into action! 🙌

“Bee the me I was made to be!” 💛🐝

We had such a beautiful few days recently hosting a team of three OC workers from Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the US. Together, they facilitated a children’s program called Lifeworkx for 95 kids in a nearby community, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.

This 4-day program was geared to help children discover who God created them to be, to understand their unique design, and to cast vision for their lives. Everything centered around the children knowing that they are seen, known, heard, treasured, valued, important, and loved, and that God has a unique purpose and plan for each one of them.

From sharing meals and doing craft activities to someone dressing up in a full bee outfit, the kids were so engaged. It was a blessing to see the children enjoying worship centered around the Psalm 139 theme and their eagerness to participate in the various activities, discover their “smarts” as well as to process the joyful and painful areas of their short lives, to help them reframe some of those painful situations and to experience love and fun!

To multiply this impact across the region, 16 ministry leaders from the Johannesburg area and Zimbabwe also joined us for training, eager to take Lifeworkx back to the children and youth they serve in their own communities. It was a beautiful time of laughter, healing, and growth, and we are so grateful for the seeds of hope planted in these young hearts!

“Coaching is an ongoing intentional conversation that empowers a person or group to fully live out God’s calling.” — Keith E. Webb, The COACH Model for Christian Leaders

Tuesday evening we had day one of The Coaching Workshop which introduced participants to the foundations of Christian coaching as a relational process centered on helping people discover, develop, and live out God’s purposes. Rather than simply providing answers, coaching creates space for reflection, growth, and discernment through intentional conversations. Throughout the evening, participants engaged in teaching, discussion, breakout sessions, and practical coaching exercises, exploring the nature of coaching, the importance of listening well, partnering with the work God is already doing, and creating environments where others can grow in ownership, discernment, and leadership. Time was also set aside for a personal development exercise, encouraging participants to identify areas for growth shaped by God’s calling and personal conviction rather than external expectations.

A question to carry into the week: How might God use my questions, my listening, and my presence to help someone else discover what He is already doing in their life?

We’re looking forward to the next few sessions with Karl Teichert, Dr. Paul Siaki, and Kevin Zondagh, facilitated by OC Africa.

Four days of DMM training with Dr. Aila Tasse and the OC Africa team at the Good News Center came to a close today.

By the final session, people who had arrived as strangers on Monday were exchanging numbers, stories, laughter and shared meals, leaving as friends and supporters. Staff at the center remarked more than once this week how blessed they felt by Dr. Tasse’s teachings and by kindness of the group that had gathered around it.

Bishops, pastors, evangelists and church planters, some with decades of experience and others just beginning, spent four days in genuine study together, working through questions rather than settling for answers already in hand. Several ministers shared that they had been challenged in meaningful ways and were returning home with practical tools to enrich their ministries. It is truly beautiful to watch leaders seek out and recognize where growth or change is needed and open themselves to the Holy Spirit’s work in that process alongside community.

Thank you, Dr. Tasse, for your time and teaching this week, and to everyone who gathered and made this time what it was.

Feel free to share something that encouraged or stood out to you during our time together in the comments below! 🙌

After the day’s sessions a group involved with campus ministry sat and shared questions, testimonies, common struggles, and collectively brought valuable insights, wisdom, deeper questions and encouragement. These kind of table conversations are a beautiful part of our experience here at DMM as disciples who are discipling disciple-makers.

“Don’t put obstacles in front of what you want to do. ‘Difficult’ is already going to be there. Allow the Holy Spirit to work.” —Dr. Alia Tasse

Grateful for that relieving reminder and the simplicity within faithful, continuous steps forward. God will complete the work He starts!

Day 3 of our DMM course with Dr. Aila Tasse at the Good News Center!

Today, Dr. Tasse has us working through Discovery Bible Study (DBS) — a simple approach to reading Scripture together that is designed to help people move from hearing God’s Word to actually doing something with it.

He’s given us three simple words to remember: Read. Obey. Share.

We read the passage together, put it into our own words, and ask what it means for the way we live. Then we consider who we will share what we’ve learned with.

DBS also builds in group interaction, encouragement and accountability: What are you thankful for? What needs do you or others have? How can we help? What did you learn last week? How did you apply it? Who did you share it with?

It’s a very practical way of approaching Scripture, with the aim of seeing what we discover actually make its way into our lives, relationships, and communities. 🙌

We are at the Good News Center learning from Dr. Aila Tasse about Disciple-Making Movements (DMM): a “rapid multi-generational self-replication of disciples and churches” that continues to multiply.

DMM is about making disciples who make disciples and seeing local churches emerge within a people or population group, and planting multiple new churches as a normal part of being the church.

We have also been looking beyond the church we see in front of us to the picture we are moving toward:

“A vast multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” — Revelation 7:9

We are grateful for this time! Disciple-making truly happens in community. Here, we learn together, grow together, and go together.

“I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I did not hide my face from disgrace and spitting.” — Isaiah 50:6

At Easter, we are confronted with the suffering of Christ — not abstract, but deeply personal and willingly embraced. Jesus endured humiliation, rejection and pain, not as a victim of circumstance, but in obedience to the Father and in love for us.

This is why the message of the cross will always be the most important message we carry. It speaks to the deepest human need — forgiveness, restoration and reconciliation with God. No other message reaches as far, or transforms as completely.

In a world searching for answers, we do not outgrow this truth. We return to it, proclaim it, and live it: Christ suffered, Christ died, and through Him, we are made new.

This is the message we must never stop sharing.
