Shaking the Foundations: Midnight Worship and the Unstoppable God
Let's open the book of
Deuteronomy 8:18 "But you shall [earnestly] remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."
Who must remember here? YOU must remember. Why? Because it is God who gives you the power to acquire wealth. With this revelation, we understand that no one on earth has ever acquired true wealth without Him.
Psalm 147:4 "He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names."
God counts the number of the stars. Let us not limit Him! If God can count all the stars and call them by their individual names, how can He fail to know you? How can He fail to count your days or know your situations? He knows exactly what you are going through. Your problems have a name, but God knows your name too.
You might even find that one of the names God calls a star is your very name. If He can count the stars, He will never forget to call you.
A star does not depend on external light; it has its own light. When God made man, He made him with his own light—he does not depend on anything else to light up. You are better than the moon. The moon depends on the sun for light, but who are you? You are a Son (a child of God).
The sun has its own light, and so do you. You do not need to depend on the world for your light. Let your light shine! You will go to places no one else in your family has ever been because you carry your own light.
God cannot forget your problems or your situation. If He knows the number of the stars, He knows you. He sent this word to change your life—be ready for transformation!
In Acts 3:1-10, the man at the Beautiful Gate had two feet but could not walk because the capacity to walk was not there. Similarly, you may have the tools, but you need the divine capacity to move. Everyone has the potential to be rich, but capacity is often the problem. If God can count the stars, who can limit Him? No one.
Acts 16:20 "And when they had brought them before the magistrates, they declared, These fellows are Jews and they are throwing our city into great confusion."
There are prisons that are not physical buildings, but rather prisons you build for yourself. Spiritual prisons like unforgiveness are examples of this.
Acts 16:23–24 "And when they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely. He, having received [so strict a] charge, put them into the inner prison (the dungeon) and fastened their feet in the stocks."
Look at this prison: it was a small, dark, uncomfortable room. Paul and Silas were not enjoying themselves; it was painful and pitch black. They were thrown into a place where the sun could not shine, which was supposed to be their end. But God looked down and said, "I can count all the stars and call them by name. What is a single prison holding Paul and Silas?" Paul and Silas had a deep revelation of who God was.
Acts 16:25 "But about midnight, as Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the [other] prisoners were listening to them,"
Not every enemy is awake at midnight. You must know your enemy’s weakness. When your enemy is asleep, it is time for you to wake up and sing songs of praise and worship! Do not spend that time crying or complaining. Wake up to worship and sing hymns to Him, saying, "You are the God who counts the stars and knows them by name."
God is not moved by the fact that you are stuck in a situation; He wants you to go through it (to pass through it). You must speak like David in Psalm 23:4:
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil..."
Even when you go through prison or fire, He is with you. He said in Jeremiah 33:3:
"Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
When you call, you cause God to move.
Notice that the other prisoners were listening. God was interested in those prisoners too. When God delivers you, He does not deliver you alone. You are blessed to be a blessing; you are delivered to deliver others. Do not be selfish—allow God to work through you. You must receive a deliverance that impacts your entire family!
Acts 16:26 "Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the very foundations of the prison were shaken; and at once all the doors were opened and everyone's shackles were unfastened."
This prison was built of stone, but when the earthquake came, the foundation was shaken. When the voice of the Lord thunders, it shakes foundations. God will not just deliver your hand and leave the rest of your body bound. More importantly, He wants to deliver your spirit.
If you have a spirit of unforgiveness, God will shake that foundation and leave you with a pure, new heart. If your prison is poverty, He shakes that foundation and brings riches. In prison, you are limited, but when God shakes the foundation, you are free to move.
God spoke to Abraham in Genesis 12 and essentially said, "I know you are childless right now, but you are the father of nations." Jesus is not interested in your poverty because He carries all the riches, and He is the one who gives the power to acquire wealth.
Paul and Silas were worshipping at midnight. Could anyone even tell they were in prison? They turned their prison into a house of worship! If you are sick or struggling financially, view that situation as a house of worship. At midnight, wake up, lay your matters before the Lord, and God will cause an earthquake to shake your situation. The prison you are in must cause you to love God more.
Acts 16:27–28 "When the jailer, startled out of his sleep, saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was on the point of killing himself, because he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, 'Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!'"
The jailer was asleep. Who is your jailer? Your family members may be spiritually asleep right now, but your breakthrough will awaken them. Do not fight them; recognize that they are simply asleep. When your chains are loosed, let your life be a testimony to them. If there is anyone in your family tied to idols or traditional healers (sangomas), pray for their salvation, because we want them to enter heaven. Allow the earthquake to shake them into salvation.
Acts 16:30 "And he brought them out [of the dungeon] and said, 'Men, what is it necessary for me to do that I may be saved?'"
Let your breakthrough cause your enemies to seek salvation. Sometimes you don't even have to answer your enemy directly—the secret is your midnight worship. What you tell God in secret is what your enemy will see in public. Do not give credit to your enemy by crying and complaining. The jailer eventually took Paul and Silas out of prison without even asking his superiors because he urgently wanted to be saved. Just like Nicodemus came to Jesus at night, this jailer and his family received salvation and became disciples.
Your enemies will end up following your God, but you must discern who the enemy is so you are not destroyed.
Think of Peter in Acts 12. He was sleeping so deeply that an angel had to strike him on the side to wake him up as the gates opened. Peter thought he was dreaming because he loved to sleep! Meanwhile, the church was constantly praying for him. Yet, when Peter actually showed up at the door, the very church that was praying could not believe it!
Like many today, after we pray and the answer comes, we ask, "How can this be?" Do not question how God will bring it to pass. God is not confused like man is. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
Luke 1:34 -36 "And listen! Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren."
God told Mary, "I am not only dealing with you; I am answering for your relatives too." When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will reflect Genesis 1:28—you will be fruitful and multiply. I believe Elizabeth and her husband were initially confused about how they could conceive in their old age, but with God, nothing is impossible.
To God be the glory!
