Hi everyone

As you are aware the TUKS OUTREACH is coming closer!!! It will take place on the 10th of March 2017 from 15:00 in the afternoon.

Outreach Requirements:

Since the Campus is a concentration of different and diverse worldviews and religions this outreach will not be the usual one. It is therefore of utmost importance that you attend the training that will take place the Thursday night the 9th of March in order to effectively do this outreach.

Campus goers have already heard about Jesus and the Bible and are quickly annoyed by people who again tries to convince them to convert. In our postmodern era people also believe that each person is free to choose whatever he wants to believe and that no religion is better than the other. So, in some cases, trying to convince someone to convert to Christianity is seen as a violation of that freedom. Many Campus goers also believe that they are generally good people. Thus, some find it difficult to listen the the gospel of the forgiveness of sins when they don't believe they have sins that needs to be forgiven.
These are among the many challenges we face on Campus.

So, it is very important that you attend the training before heading out to Campus. Only those who attend the training will be allowed to join with this outreach.

What will we do on this Outreach:

We are going to initiate interesting conversations on Campus to get people thinking about how the view the world. Some call this action - pre-evangelism. It is in one sense preparing the ground for truth to revive in a world that struggles to believe in truth as a concept in itself. At the same time we will also gain valuable information about worldviews on Campus that will help with future ministry on Campus.

To wrap it UP:

Times include:

Training - Thursday 9 March 2017 - 19:00 - (It will take place at Living Word Brumeria. In Lecture hall 7)

Outreach - Friday 10 March 2017 - 15:00-18:00 - (We will leave for Campus from Living Word Brumeria and then return for a debriefing)

Looking forward to this exiting outreach. The training will give you all the tools you need to do everything very effectively. It is going to be lots of fun and we are all going to learn a lot. You do not need a theological degree to do well on this outreach, only a willing heart that is ready to be used by the Lord. I am trusting God for amazing testimonies!

Feel free to contact me if you need any further details or if you have any questions.
The peace of the Lord be wit your spirit.

Hi everyone. I felt I wanted to share a story with you. This story touched my heart. It is however not an easy to read because of the graphic content but it carries a very significant truth in life. If you are sensitive, rather not read this.

The following quote is a extract from Lieutenant Colonel Mercin Willet Gonin's diary in Rob Bell's book: SexGod. This Lieutenant Colonel wrote this in the year 1945 when British soldiers entered a concentration camp called Bergen-Belsen to help the people that lived and died there. This is what he wrote:

"I can give no adequate description of the Horror Camp in which my men and myself were to spend the next month of our lives. It was just a barren wilderness, as bare as a chicken run. Corpses lay everywhere, some in huge piles, sometimes they lay singly or in pairs where they had fallen. It took a little time to get used to seeing men, women and children collapse as you walked by them ... One knew that five hundred a day were dying and that five hundred a day were going on dying for weeks before anything we could do would have the slightest effect. It was, however, not easy to watch a child chocking to death from diphtheria when you knew a tracheotomy and nursing would save it. One saw women drowning in their own vomit because they were too weak to turn over, men eating worms as they clutched a half loaf of bread purely because they had to eat worms to live and now could scarcely tell the difference. Piles of corpses, naked and obscene with a woman too weak to stand propping herself against them as she cooked the food we had given her over an open fire; men and women crouching down just anywhere in the open relieving themselves ... a dysentery tank in which the remains of a child floated."

"It was shortly after the British Red Cross arrived, though it may have no connection, that a very large quantity of lipstick arrived. This was not at all what we wanted, we were screaming for hundreds and thousands of other things and I don't know who asked for lipstick. I wish so much that I could discover who did it, it was the action of genius, sheer unadulterated brilliance. I believe nothing did more for these internees than the lipstick. Women lay in bed with no sheets and no nightie but with scarlet red lips, you saw them wandering about with nothing but a blanket over their shoulders, but with scarlet red lips. I saw a woman dead on the postmortem table and clutched in her hand was a piece of lipstick. At last someone had done something to make them individuals again; they were someone, no longer merely the number tattooed on the arm. At last they could take an interest in their appearance. That lipstick gave them back their humanity."
One thing we need to realise is that we are human, created in the image of God. Every person around us, human. Because of this fact if anyone is "anti-human" they are "anti-God".
In 1st John 4:7 John writes: "Beloved let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."

I want to encourage you with this story to consider the humanity of each person around you. Honour and love them as fellow human beings created in the image of God. I want to encourage you to try the following: Start listening attentively to people around you and hear what they are saying. Greet people everywhere you go because when you greet them you are actually saying: you are someone and you are important. Show genuine interest towards people. Have concern for people as Paul did for the Thessalonian Church.

Paul writes in 1 Thess 2:8: "So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us."

As Rob Bell says in his book: "How you treat the creation reflects how you feel about the Creator" and "sometimes, the difference between heaven and hell may be a bit of lipstick".

God bless

Truely a great video by UNICEF.

Why don't we try to change our appearance when we go places and see what happens? How would you react to something like this? We should really treat everyone the same. The sad thing is, this attitude towards appearance has entered the church. See Matt 25:35-40. Let us love people like God loves us.

Hi beloved co-workers in Christ.

As you all know God has called us to the University of Pretoria to do a specific work. Here is a brief description of what our mission is on Campus.

Firstly it is important to understand that our mission starts with us. God first calls the man before the mission. Secondly God calls us as the church. Finally, God then also calls us to do a specific work as part of the larger move of God’s Spirit.

A PERSONAL CALLING

Firstly God has called us to be His people. Our first calling is in our personal lives and walk with God.

Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-3 that we are to walk in a manner worthy of our calling, which is to walk in all humility, gentleness, patience and in love. When we are born again we are no longer from this world, we are born of God. We are born out of the heart of heaven. It is not that living a sanctified life saves us from sin but that we can now walk in our true identity, as God’s beloved in Christ. Salvation is God’s work alone. This is who we are: God's beloved children, raised up in His house. We need to carefully consider this. This is where the ministry on Campus starts.

ECCLESIA

Secondly, Paul also writes in Ephesians 4:4 that there is ONE body, ONE Spirit, ONE hope, ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism and ONE God and Father of all. He writes the word ‘ONE’ seven times. This signifies the complete unity within diversity. Unity does not call for uniformity (Ravi Zacharias), or being the same, but it indeed includes diversity. We all have different gifts and talents for the building up of the church.

Paul also mentions in verse 11-12 that “He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ”. Paul is known to make unfinished lists. This list may include more functions. The question is, to what function is God calling you in His body? Is He calling you as an intercessor? Or possibly as a worship leader? Or perhaps to look out for the broken hearted or to feed the hungry? What kind of participation is God laying on your heart?

Furthermore, Paul also writes in 1st Corinthians 14:26: “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up”.

Each one that came to the gatherings in the Corinthian church had something to offer. What are the things that the Lord has given you to bring to the table? How does God want you to serve in the church? How does God want you to love your fellow believers in His body? Again, it is very important to ponder these things in the light of our work on Campus.

MORE SPECIFICALLY

More specifically, God has called us, Living Word TUKS, to build a loving, Word-based, Kingdom Community on Campus.

LOVE

God is love. If we love one another we are born of God and we know God (1 John 4:7).The world will know that we are His disciples because of the love we have for one another (John 13:35). Our strongest weapon on Campus is absolute and genuine love. I pray that God Himself will teach us to love and that this love will shine brightly on Campus (1 Thessalonians 4:9).

WORD-BASED

The Bible is our highest source of truth and authority. It is sufficient for all of life and faith. It is important that we should be well acquainted with the Bible. The Word is alive! This is why we study the Bible itself regularly on Campus. We hold Scripture in high regard.

KINGDOM COMMUNITY

We pray that heaven will come to earth. We are born from God and we are here in this world to live as a community from heaven and to teach the people around us the principles of God’s kingdom. In this Kingdom Community we love one another, esteem others more significant than ourselves, walking in all humility, gentleness, patience, eagerly welcoming new members into the family, we joyfully give to the Lord, we deny ourselves, love our enemies, we count it all joy when a crisis comes and praise God in the midst of it, we pray earnestly for one another and present ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord. We bow only before the Son of the Living God in whom we have the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Let all of us discover how God wants us to work together to build a loving, Word-based Kingdom Community on Campus.
What is your part?

God Bless
Johann
