Hi beloved co-workers in Christ.
As you all know God has called us to the University of Pretoria to do a specific work. Here is a brief description of what our mission is on Campus.
Firstly it is important to understand that our mission starts with us. God first calls the man before the mission. Secondly God calls us as the church. Finally, God then also calls us to do a specific work as part of the larger move of God’s Spirit.
A PERSONAL CALLING
Firstly God has called us to be His people. Our first calling is in our personal lives and walk with God.
Paul writes in Ephesians 4:1-3 that we are to walk in a manner worthy of our calling, which is to walk in all humility, gentleness, patience and in love. When we are born again we are no longer from this world, we are born of God. We are born out of the heart of heaven. It is not that living a sanctified life saves us from sin but that we can now walk in our true identity, as God’s beloved in Christ. Salvation is God’s work alone. This is who we are: God's beloved children, raised up in His house. We need to carefully consider this. This is where the ministry on Campus starts.
ECCLESIA
Secondly, Paul also writes in Ephesians 4:4 that there is ONE body, ONE Spirit, ONE hope, ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism and ONE God and Father of all. He writes the word ‘ONE’ seven times. This signifies the complete unity within diversity. Unity does not call for uniformity (Ravi Zacharias), or being the same, but it indeed includes diversity. We all have different gifts and talents for the building up of the church.
Paul also mentions in verse 11-12 that “He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ”. Paul is known to make unfinished lists. This list may include more functions. The question is, to what function is God calling you in His body? Is He calling you as an intercessor? Or possibly as a worship leader? Or perhaps to look out for the broken hearted or to feed the hungry? What kind of participation is God laying on your heart?
Furthermore, Paul also writes in 1st Corinthians 14:26: “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up”.
Each one that came to the gatherings in the Corinthian church had something to offer. What are the things that the Lord has given you to bring to the table? How does God want you to serve in the church? How does God want you to love your fellow believers in His body? Again, it is very important to ponder these things in the light of our work on Campus.
MORE SPECIFICALLY
More specifically, God has called us, Living Word TUKS, to build a loving, Word-based, Kingdom Community on Campus.
LOVE
God is love. If we love one another we are born of God and we know God (1 John 4:7).The world will know that we are His disciples because of the love we have for one another (John 13:35). Our strongest weapon on Campus is absolute and genuine love. I pray that God Himself will teach us to love and that this love will shine brightly on Campus (1 Thessalonians 4:9).
WORD-BASED
The Bible is our highest source of truth and authority. It is sufficient for all of life and faith. It is important that we should be well acquainted with the Bible. The Word is alive! This is why we study the Bible itself regularly on Campus. We hold Scripture in high regard.
KINGDOM COMMUNITY
We pray that heaven will come to earth. We are born from God and we are here in this world to live as a community from heaven and to teach the people around us the principles of God’s kingdom. In this Kingdom Community we love one another, esteem others more significant than ourselves, walking in all humility, gentleness, patience, eagerly welcoming new members into the family, we joyfully give to the Lord, we deny ourselves, love our enemies, we count it all joy when a crisis comes and praise God in the midst of it, we pray earnestly for one another and present ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord. We bow only before the Son of the Living God in whom we have the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
Let all of us discover how God wants us to work together to build a loving, Word-based Kingdom Community on Campus.
What is your part?
God Bless
Johann
