Theme: I Am Appointed for the Defense of the Gospel
Introduction
Before we explore the Word of God, it is important to understand what it means to be appointed. An appointment is more than a title; it is a responsibility. When a person is appointed to a position, they are entrusted with duties that must be fulfilled faithfully.
For example, a safety officer is appointed to ensure the safety of people in the workplace. Likewise, in the church, whether one is appointed as a pastor, worship leader, singer, administrator, or counselor, that person carries a responsibility before God and His people.
A worship leader, for instance, is appointed to prepare the atmosphere for the ministry of the Word and to lead people into the presence of God. Every appointment comes with a purpose, and every purpose comes with responsibility.
The Appointment of Paul
In Acts 9:3-4, Saul was on his way to Damascus when a great light from heaven suddenly shone around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?”
Before becoming Paul, Saul was known as a persecutor of Christians. He actively opposed the church and sought to destroy the followers of Jesus Christ. Yet God intervened and changed the direction of his life.
In Acts 9:15, the Lord declared that Saul was His chosen instrument to proclaim His name before Gentiles, kings, and the people of Israel. At that moment, Saul's appointment changed. No longer was he appointed to persecute believers; he was appointed by God Himself to defend and proclaim the Gospel.
The Cost of Being Appointed
Paul's appointment was not accompanied by comfort or ease. Instead, it brought suffering. He was beaten, stoned, imprisoned, rejected, betrayed, and eventually gave his life for the Gospel.
His life teaches us an important lesson: being appointed by God does not guarantee an easy journey. In fact, the appointment may be the beginning of trials, opposition, and challenges. The road of serving God is not always smooth.
Many believers assume that God's appointment means a life free from difficulties. However, Paul demonstrates that faithful service often involves carrying a cross. Yet through every challenge, God's grace remains sufficient.
God's Grace for the Appointed
Although Paul suffered greatly, God never abandoned him. The same God who appointed him also gave him the grace to endure.
When people opposed Paul, they were not merely fighting against a man. They were fighting against the Word of God that had been deposited within him. Likewise, when believers face opposition today, it is often because of what God has placed inside them.
Imagine a bottle filled with water. People carry it because of what it contains. If it were empty, no one would pay attention to it. In the same way, the opposition you face may be evidence that God has placed something valuable within you.
Appointed for a Purpose
Every believer has been appointed for a purpose. God did not appoint us merely to occupy positions or carry titles. We are not appointed simply to be called pastors, leaders, administrators, or worship team members.
We are appointed to defend the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
God has deposited His Word within us so that we may carry His message to a world that desperately needs Him. Therefore, when trials, disappointments, or betrayals come, we must not lose heart.
Instead, we must continue preaching Christ and sharing His Gospel with those who do not know Him.
Lessons from Paul's Imprisonment
Paul was imprisoned many times because of his commitment to the Gospel. In 2 Corinthians 11:23, he testified about his imprisonments, hardships, and sufferings for Christ.
Many people may have thought that imprisoning Paul would stop the spread of the Gospel. Instead, it became an opportunity for God to reach new people.
What seemed like a prison became a platform for ministry.
The same principle applies today. The difficult situations we face may become opportunities for God's power to be revealed. What appears to be a prison may actually be a place where God intends to reach people through us.
Your Situation Has a Purpose
Perhaps you are facing challenges right now. Perhaps you feel trapped by circumstances, disappointment, or uncertainty.
Remember this: God has not forgotten you.
Sometimes God allows us to enter difficult seasons so that others may see His power through our lives. Through your testimony, people who do not know Christ may come to know Him. Through your faith, those who doubt may begin to believe.
Your struggle may be preparing someone else's breakthrough.
Conclusion
As I conclude, I encourage you not to remain silent. Preach the Gospel. Defend the faith. Fulfill the purpose for which God has appointed you.
You were not appointed to sit and do nothing. You were appointed to serve God's Kingdom.
May God give you grace.
May God give you strength.
May God sustain you.
May God cover you.
May God lead you.
May God remove every desire to give up.
Run with your appointment, for God is with you.
