Imam Al Ghazali

He said Astrology is really harmful and the example he gives of astrology, he said astrology is more guess work than it is a science but one of the things he said about the problems of astrology is that people actually think these planets have influence and he likens them to an ant,he said imagine an ant whose been given knowledge and it's on a piece of paper and it sees a pen and the pen is writing,the ant looking at the ink appearing on the paper will think that the pen is the one that's causing that because it it can't see the hand holding the pen its too small,and then it can't see the arm behind the hand and then it can't see the man behind the arm and then it can't see the brain behind the movement and then it can't see the will inside that's compelling it,he said like that is the human being when it looks at the asbab(creation) and thinks that the means outside of the world are what are dictating things.He said people think when the sun comes up the light shines because they don't understand it's God illuminating everything,He is only using this as a means in the same way and this is the limitations of human beings.

Islamic concept of knowledge.

What we have to do is come to the definition of knowledge.One of the Tribulations of the time we're living in is that knowledge has been "misrepresented", the nature of systems other than the system of Allah has been in other words," Truth has been dressed in Falsehood and Falsehood has been dressed in Truth" and this is in order to confuse people,because the nature of Dunya is to confuse,to bewilder.If you stare at a lake for a long time you'll become dizzy, that's the nature of water,Allah created Life from water.
What Islam is teaching us to do is to look beyond the symbols of existence and The Quran itself are the Ayahs of Allah.What an Ayah is, its a form that has a meaning hidden inside of it and the people that posses some core are the people that peel off the outward form and look at what the essence is,look at the source,they look at the reality behind the image.One of the ancient poets said that;"Creation are meanings setup in images and those people who perceive those meanings are from the people of discernment."

So what knowledge is its the ability to decode existence.

Signs of God or Coincidence.

So obviously the outward meaning,"The Sun and the Moon are in perfect reckoning."If you look at the Sun and the moon,the moon is 256 000 miles away from us, the Sun is 93 million miles away from us,when they line up in an ecliptic node the sun and the moon fit perfectly together.Despite the fact that the sun is millions of miles away and it's millions of times bigger than the moon but when they come together it's a perfect fit, why?

Do you know scientists say it's an enigma of nature, they say it's an incredible coincidence,that's what they say. I know it's stupid, just admit,Our Creator is letting you know look what i can do,think about this,marvel at it,say Subhan'Allah,dont say "what an amazing coincidence ".
It's a sign from the signs of God...

Imam Malik said,"I witnessed a people who had no fault's and they preoccupied themselves with the faults of other's and God gave them faults",he also said,"and I knew another people who had fault's and they preoccupied themselves with purifying their faults and ignored the faults of others and God removed their faults."

5. Trickery and Slyness

Slyness is another vice belonging to the Power of Intellect, and appears through the agency of satanic and evil wishes of the Power of Passion and Anger. Slyness and trickery is defined as conscious plotting against others and drawing of elaborate and detailed plans to harm them. This vice is a fatal one, because the individual afflicted by it is counted one amongst the party of the devil.

4. Satanic Temptations and Consciousness

Whatever enters the human consciousness is either through the agency of the angels of mercy or the devil. If it is godly, it is called inspiration (ilham), and if it is caused by the devil, it is called temptation (waswasa). The human soul is a battlefield on which the army of angels and the army of devils are locked in battle, and man has the choice to confirm either of them. If the army of the devil is reinforced, he will become subject to demonic temptations, and his outward actions will mirror his internal condition. But if the Divine forces are strengthened, the individual becomes the embodiment of Divine attributes and characteristics.

3. Shirk (Polytheism)

Shirk is another serious disease of the soul, and is a branch of ignorance. It lies in believing that other forces besides God have a role in directing the affairs of the world. If one worships these forces, it is called shirk `ibadi (polytheism in worship), and if he obeys them, it would be shirk ita`i (polytheism in obedience). The first kind is also named shirk jali (manifest polytheism), and the second is also called shirk khafi (hidden polytheism). Possibly the Qur’anic verse:

And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners unto Him. (12:106)

is a reference to the second kind of shirk.

2. Perplexity and Doubt

Another disease which may afflict the Power of the Intellect is the vice of doubt and perplexity, which makes man incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. This disease is usually caused by appearance of numerous contradictory pieces of evidence, which confuse him, and make him incapable of reaching a definite conclusion.

1. Compound Ignorance

Compound ignorance is, as explained before, the kind of ignorance in which one does not know and is, moreover, unaware of the fact that he doesn't. This is a fatal disease the cure of which is extremely difficult. This is because the `compound ignorant' person does not see any shortcoming in himself, and so lacks any motivation to do anything about it.

Thus he remains ignorant to the end of his life and its disastrous effects destroy him.

C. The State of Moderation

Knowledge and Wisdom: This condition is situated between the two extremes of `slyness' and `simple ignorance'. Undoubtedly, knowledge and wisdom are two of the sublimest qualities that man can possess, just as they are the most important and noblest of Divine Attributes. In fact it is this characteristic that brings man close to God. This is so because the more a man's knowledge and learning is, the greater is his capacity for abstraction (tajarrud); since it has been demonstrated in study of philosophy that knowledge and abstraction are complementaries. Therefore, the greater the degree of abstraction in the mind, the closer is man to the Divine Essence, whose idea in the human mind is the highest of abstractions.

Simple Ignorance: This disease is caused by a deficiency of the Power of Intellect in the individual, and is said to exist when the individual lacks knowledge and learning, but is aware of his ignorance.

A. The Condition of Excess

Slyness: It is one of the vices of the Power of Intellect in its condition of excess or extremity. When afflicted with this disease, the human intellect is so immersed in meticulous examination and analysis that it loses temperance. In other words, the individual's mental activity, instead of bringing him closer to an understanding of reality, takes him farther and farther away from it, and may even lead him to deny reality -like the Sophists- and cause him to be bogged down in doubt and indecision in regard to religious laws and their application.
