Today, Bishop Kgabe licensed and commissioned two Deputy Chancellors, two Deputy Registrars and a Deputy Bursar to serve the Diocese of Pretoria.

In her homily, Bishop Kgabe reflected on the important relationship between good governance, faithful stewardship and the mission of the Church:
“Good governance must create the conditions in which mission can flourish, ministry can grow, resources can be stewarded wisely, young people can find their place, clergy can serve faithfully, the vulnerable can be protected, and our parishes can become vibrant communities of faith.”

She reminded the congregation that governance in the Church is never merely about structures, policies or figures on a page. It is ultimately about people, trust and our shared responsibility for the mission entrusted to us.
“Behind every figure in a financial statement are people who have entrusted resources to the Church because they believe in its mission. Therefore, stewardship must be exercised with transparency, accountability, prudence and integrity.”

As the newly commissioned officers take up their responsibilities, they do so as partners in strengthening the governance and stewardship of the Diocese, working alongside existing office-bearers and diocesan structures.

The Bishop concluded with a challenge addressed to all entrusted with leadership and responsibility in the Church:
“Help us ensure that our resources serve God’s mission rather than merely maintain the institution.”

May their service contribute to a Diocese that is well governed, responsibly stewarded and, above all, increasingly equipped for the mission of God.
