Revival in the Body of Christ
David Brainerd decided to give himself unreservedly to intercessory prayer. It is said that ‘whole nights were spent in agonizing prayer in the dark woods, his clothes drenched with the sweat of his travail.’ Suddenly the
Spirit was poured upon the whole region of Susquehanna. His first audience there had consisted of four women and a few children. Now there came streaming upon him from all sides a host of men and women, who pressed upon him, and grasping the bridle of his horse, besought him with intense earnestness to tell them the way of salvation. In a great, glad wonder he looked upon them, and the text that leaped to his lips was: ‘Herein is love’. Men fell at his feet in anguish of soul. These were men who could bear the most acute torture without flinching. But God’s arrow had now pierced them; their pain could not be concealed and they cried out in their distress: ‘Have mercy upon me!’ The woods were filled with a sound of a great mourning, and beneath the Cross every man fell as if he and the Saviour God were alone there. – From: Handbook on Revival by H.E. Schmul. Heavenly Father, grant us grace to stand before You and give ourselves unreservedly to intercessory prayer. Please help us to love others with the zeal that You love each one of us.
Testimony: Release of detained Believers
Thirty-five Ethiopian Christians were arrested and detained in of their home in Saudi Arabia on December 15,2011. They were assaulted, harassed and pressured to convert to Islam during their incarceration. Over the past months Christians across the world have been praying and campaigning for their release. On August 1, Saudi Arabia deported the last of the 35 Ethiopian Christians who are now all home safely. (E-mail: [email protected], 21/08/12). Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and answer to prayer in the release of these believers and their safe return home.
South Africa: Fewer religious people in SA
The number of people in South Africa who consider themselves religious has dropped by 19%, an international survey revealed. According to the latest polls released by the Win-Gallup International Religiosity and Atheism Index, which measures global self-perceptions on belief, religious South Africans dropped from 83% in 2005 to 64% in 2012. (Website: http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Fewer-religious-people-in-SA-survey-20120810, 10/08/12). Please consider to pray for South Africa on a daily basis. International: Egypt
In less than a week, the Muslim Brotherhood has made great strides towards consolidating its power in Egypt. The newly elected president Mohammed Morsi fired his intelligence chief and other top security officials, using the killing of 16 soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula as his rationale. Morsi took his purge one step further, dismissing the entire military leadership in a move that shocked the nation. Whether the military ultimately accepts that decision remains to be seen. Morsi also nullified a constitutional declaration issued by the military junta that severely limited his presidential authority, replacing it with one that gives him sweeping executive and legislative powers. A further concern for local Christians was not only the constitution that was changed but an image of a letter that appeared on El Fegr's website. Titled "An Urgent and Important Notice," it begins by calling on "all brothers and sisters" to "kill or physically attack the enemies of the religion of Allah--the Christians in all of Egypt's provinces, the slaves of the Cross, Allah's curse upon them…" It proceeds to promise a monetary reward for whoever helps "achieve Allah's rights against his enemies." (E-mail: [email protected], 23/08/12). Pray for President Mohammed Morsi by name; asking God to reveal Himself to the president. Ask God to soften President Morsi’s heart to hear the voice of the Lord. Pray for the believers in Egypt to continually seek God and His righteousness. Ask God to provide the missionaries in Egypt with opportunities to share the gospel with unbelievers.
