A GENERATION WITH CONVICTION

We are a generation that chooses to stand firm, even when the world tells us to compromise. Like Daniel and his friends, we are called to live boldly, faithfully, and unapologetically for God.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - Proverbs 4:23

Our conviction is rooted in Christ. Our hearts are set apart. Our faith is unshaken.

We are the generation that will stand. We are the generation with conviction.

Living and Serving Through the Power of the Holy Spirit

Scripture reading: John 14:16-17

Jesus Christ’s disciples were in a state of uncertainty and were concerned that they would be left alone when He departed. However, Jesus assured them that they would receive another Helper from the Father, a Helper who would always be with them. They therefore needed to wait, trust Jesus Christ, and go where He had instructed them to wait.

In our daily lives, we use our phones so frequently that, at times, it seems almost impossible to live without them. Yet, for a phone to remain useful, it needs to be charged regularly. If it is not charged, eventually its battery will run out and the phone will switch off. A phone therefore needs a charger to remain powered and functional.

In the same way, we continually need the Holy Spirit in our lives. We need Him to remain connected to God, to receive power, and to experience Him as our Helper. Without a relationship with the Holy Spirit, we become like a phone that is not being charged. We try to continue functioning while our spiritual strength is being depleted.

Every born-again Christian, regardless of age, needs the Holy Spirit, and He is available to all believers. He is here to abide with us forever (v16), not occasionally. His help is not limited to what we consider spiritual matters, we can also seek His guidance in our everyday decisions. Consult Him in everything. As we grow in our relationship with Him, we also become increasingly able to recognise His presence and guidance in our lives.

In Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came upon those who were gathered, there was no laying of hands. They were gathered in expectation. This reminds us of the importance of having hearts that are ready and willing to receive from Him. The Holy Spirit works in us and through us so that God’s purpose may be fulfilled through our lives. The Holy Spirit does not need our help to be our Helper. We should not try to help Him to help us. Rather, we must surrender and allow Him to lead.

Jesus Christ knew that the disciples’ mission had to continue after His departure, but He also knew that they could not fulfil that mission through their own strength. The Helper had to come so that the mission could continue. Peter, who had previously denied Jesus Christ, later testified about Him after receiving the Holy Spirit. This reminds us not to rely on our own wisdom or strength. We must learn to depend upon the Holy Spirit for help.

John 14:26 presents the Holy Spirit as our Teacher. We must therefore allow Him to teach us all that we need to know. We should not depend only on sermons from the pulpit for our spiritual teaching, we must also develop a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to teach and guide us.

Colossians 3:17 teaches us that whatever we do, whether in word or deed, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet we cannot live this way through our own ability alone. We need the Holy Spirit to help and empower us.

Allow the Holy Spirit to search within you and bring about the change that is needed. When we experience His work personally, we begin to understand His value in our lives. Allow the Holy Spirit in every area of your life. Depend on Him, listen to Him, and allow Him to lead you.

He is not only the Helper we need in moments of difficulty, He is the Helper we need every day.

Standing at the end of Women’s Month, we thank all the women who availed themselves to be vessels and mouthpieces of God, allowing Him to use them to speak, teach, encourage and strengthen us.

We now know that when you live and serve through the power of the Holy Spirit, your spiritual journey does not have to be as heavy as it is when you try to figure it out on your own. The Holy Spirit guides you into your place, empowers you to use the gifts God has given you, strengthens you to pray through the pain, helps you walk in virtue, and teaches you to be still and trust God in the midst of every storm.

This Women’s Month, we have been reminded to serve faithfully, pray persistently, live virtuously and surrender completely.

We do not have to carry it all by ourselves. There is a Helper. There is a Power beyond our own.

May we continue to live and serve through the power of the Holy Spirit, becoming the women God has called us to be.

SUNDAY SERMON

Be Still And Know That He Is God

Main Scripture: Psalm 46:10

2 Kings 19:1-4,6-7,14,32-33.

In every situation you face, and in the midst of all the noise, uncertainty, and accusations, be still and know that He is God. Even when you have been misunderstood or accused of many things, remain still and trust in Him. Surrender everything to God and allow Him to be your refuge, your strength, and your defender.

2 Kings 18

Hezekiah did what was right in the sight of God. He removed and destroyed everything that did not honour God (v4). In the same way, when we come to God, we must be willing to let go of everything that is not of Him, everything that hinders our righteousness. Hezekiah trusted God wholeheartedly in all that he did, and because God was with him, he prospered (v5). If you desire to see God, remove all hindrances that will make you not to prosper.

Some situations may cause you to panic. The enemy often uses fear to attack your faith, logic and weaken your leadership. Do not allow fear to shift you from God. Remember that your peace comes from God alone, it cannot be bought. Let His peace guard your heart and mind. The enemy will entice you with things that appear beautiful to lead you away from God (v23). Be careful not to fall into his trap. He will also try to make you doubt God, but continue to trust God, He will always come through for you.

2 Kings 19

Do not be afraid of what you have heard, the whispers, and negative reports from people, continue to trust God (v6). When the enemy attacks, do not be afraid, for he will return to where he came from (v7). Never grow tired of surrendering everything to God. There may be times when it seems like God is silent, but do not give up.

Hezekiah received a letter and spread it before the Lord, he took it to the One he trusted (v14). It does not matter what kind of letter you have received, take it to God in prayer and place the situation in His hands. He will take care of it and deal with it on your behalf. The enemy will not come near you or succeed in harming you. The very way he came against you is the same way he will return (v32-33).

Let God arise and take control of your situation. Surrender everything into His hands and trust Him to make a way for you. And, be still and know that He is God.

She is strong. She is graceful. She is courageous. She is wise. She is loved. She is chosen. She is a woman of faith.

“She is worth far more than rubies.” - Proverbs 31:10

A Virtuous Woman:
Proverbs 31:10-11, 15, 17, 23-31.

A virtuous woman is a rare gem, nothing compares to her. She stands up and uses her hands to work, provide, and care for her household. She does not stand idle. Her character shows the value she has over herself, her family, even over her servants.

She is compared to a pricey and a rare golden necklace. In other words, the comparison shows that on the other side there is a woman who is also not virtuous.
But in this month of August we commemorate the women who are virtuous, courageous and willing to put themselves forward to work. Most of our fellow sisters come to the Lord asking for a husband. Are they willing to be virtuous so that the husband the Lord gives them can be proud of them?

This husband sits with other men in higher places, and because of the way he is taken care of, the way he diligently looks, the way he is dressed, he feels respected. What husband will not speak highly of such a wife? The husband is pleased with her and speaks highly of her, with respect and prides himself to be having such a wife.

A virtuous woman cares not only for her husband, but also for her children and servants. She waits not for the servants to do things for her. She stands up and takes the bull by her own hands. Her household lacks in nothing. She ensures that there's food, clothes, and financial provision for her household. She does not wait for things to happen but makes things happen.

She is a Godly woman, clothed in strength and wisdom by God. She prays to God to bless her household, that is her husband, children and the servants. They call her blessed and give her the respect she deserves. She has earned all the titles given to her because she is diligent in all her ways or works.

Leseding church has a diligent woman in the Apostle's wife, because she has opened her heart to help and teach women. We are blessed to have her willing spirit. Let us learn and live the teachings she is guiding us into as women.

What is unique about a Proverbs 31 woman is the fact that this virtuous woman has no name. This means it refers to all women, not just a particular woman. Let us all be virtuous women who fear God. When we see others struggling let us find a way to be giving and helpful to them. Let us not abdicate our parental responsibility by failing to discipline our children or by placing the responsibility of discipline entirely on them. Let us be virtuous in our actions and take charge of our responsibilities. Such a woman trusts in the Lord day and night and this causes her to be trusted too.

A virtuous woman who is prayerful, loving, respectful, who takes charge and is diligent, not confrontational in times of conflict, she is obedient, wise and knows when and how to act. That is the kind of woman we seek and must strive to be.
