VOEL JY SKULDIG?

1 Joh 3:21-22…21Geliefdes, as ons gewete ons nie veroordeel nie, het ons vrymoedigheid om na God toe te gaan. 22Wat ons ook al bid, kry ons van Hom omdat ons sy opdragte gehoorsaam en dié dinge in sy teenwoordigheid doen wat Hom bly maak.
Ja, ons het ‘n gewete, wat gevorm kan wees uit ons opvoeding en kultuur, maar dit kan selfs verkeerd wees. ‘n Gewete wat deur God se Woord en Heilige Gees in jou gevorm is, is altyd reg. Wanneer so ‘n gewete ons veroordeel, is daar iets tussen ons en God wat Hy wil hê ons moet regstel. Sulke verkeerde goed neem ons vrymoedigheid weg om openlik met Hom te gesels en daarmee saam ook die kans om wat sondig is, uit die weg te ruim. God is gereed om ons onmiddellik te vergewe, want Hy hou nie op om ons lief te hê omdat ons oneerbaar opgetree het nie. Ons gewete is iets wat vir ons die regte rigting wys sodat ons kan leer om eerlik teenoor Hom te wees – tot ONS eie voordeel.
God weet buitendien van elke ding waarmee ons fouteer het, waarom sal ons nie ons foute uit die weg wil ruim nie?
Here, wanneer my hart of gewete my aankla, wil ek vinnig na U toe hardloop vir vergifnis. Ek het geleer dat U onmiddellik vergewe en my verhouding met U so gou as moontlik herstel. Dankie dat U so is.

DO YOU FEEL GUILTY?

1 Joh. 3:21-22… 21Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

Yes, we have a conscience, usually formed by our education and culture, but it can be wrong. However, a conscience created by God’s Word and Holy Spirit in you is always correct. When such a conscience condemns you then there is something between you and God that needs to be corrected. Such unresolved issues remove our boldness, preventing us to openly talk to God and to get rid of the guilt. God is waiting for us, ready to forgive and to restore us any moment. He never stops loving us. Our conscience is something that points us to the right direction, teaching us to quickly go to God and be honest with Him –for our own benefit.

God knows about all our sins and failures anyway, so what would be the reason for us trying to hide them?

Lord, when my heart or conscience condemns me I want to run to You quickly for forgiveness. I have learned that You forgive immediately and always restore our relationship. Thank you for being like that.

EVEN WHILE CRYING, I WILL PRAISE YOU

Hab. 3:17-18… 17Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

When you have gone through severe afflictions and have decided that you should trust Him, and then - with His powerful helping hand - God brings you through the ordeal, you will understand these verses. They prepare you for even more. After all, Jesus said that if we suffer with Him we will reign with Him.

I can imagine a crying person whose lips utter praises to God. It must be painful but God definitely takes notice of it. I take comfort in the fact that when you are like that, it is a unique expression of your faith. Others who have not yet been convinced about Christ, may see you and realize that there must be something great about your God.

Lord, some bad things happened to me, and others may have wondered why I was so committed in serving God while being in those situations. Still, Lord, I have seen how You have helped others, and I know that You are a faithful God.

AL HUIL EK, SAL EK U LOOF

Hab 3:17-18…17Selfs al sal die vyebome nie bot nie en die wingerd sonder druiwe staan, al het die olyfoes misluk, en lewer die landerye niks op nie, al vergaan die kleinvee in die veld en is die beeskrale leeg; 18tog, ten spyte van alles, sal ek my verbly in die Here! Ek sal juig oor God wat my verlos!
As mense al deur groot beproewings gegaan het en besluit het om op God te vertrou, en Hy hul met Sy kragtige helpende hand daardeur gehelp het, verstaan hul hierdie verse baie goed. So iets berei jou voor om die volgende trappie te kan oorwin. Jesus het immers gesê dat hulle wat saam met Hom LY, ook saam met Hom sal heers.
In my geestesoog sien ek ‘n snikkende mens wat God se goedheid oor sy lippe verklaar. Dit moet seer wees, maar God merk dit sekerlik op! Ek troos my daaraan dat om só te wees, ‘n besonderse uitdrukking van jou geloof is. Ander wat dalk nog sou twyfel en dit sien, moet besef daar is iets omtrent God wat waarde het.
Here, daar het al slegte dinge met my gebeur, sodat mense sou wonder hoekom ek steeds na U soek, al gaan dit só met my. Die hoop op U verlossing het my gehelp. Ek, Here het gesien hoe U ander help, maar nou het ek self ook ondervind dat U altyd help.

MOENIE DAT VOORSPOED JOU MISLEI NIE

1 Joh 2:15-16…15Hou op om die wêreld en die dinge van die wêreld lief te hê. As iemand die wêreld liefhet, is hy beslis nie ook lief vir die Vader nie.16Wat ook al in die wêreld bestaan, alles wat tipies is van die menslike begeerte, die begeerte vir alles wat die oog sien, en die vals roem op besittings, kom nie van die Vader nie,...
“Maar dit is dan God wat my met hierdie goed seën,” is wat die mens sou sê. Dit is dalk waar, maar hoe lief het jy hierdie dinge? Watse plek neem sport, besittings en al jou maniere van ontspanning in jou lewe in?
Omdat dit ‘n probleem kan wees, word ons gewaarsku. Vir seker gaan ons liefde vir die wêreld en sy begeertes met ons liefde vir God meeding EN dit selfs verdryf! Dit is so dat baie van die aangename goed wat God tot ons beskikking stel, NIE sonde is nie. Tog moet ons seker maak dat ons dit met Heilige Gees se leiding gebruik. Dit is redelik maklik om te weet watter goed nie verkeerd is om te geniet nie, maar wat inderdaad nie regtig ewigheidswaarde het nie.
Vader, U skepping is vir my wonderlik – dankie dat ek die prag daarvan kan geniet. Dankie vir die aangename smaak van kossoorte en musiek wat ‘n rustigheid by my bring, alles deel van hoe U ons gemaak het. Here, bo-aan my lys is egter om U te ken en te doen wat U vra. Heilige Gees, help my om nie die tyd wat ek gegun word op waardelose dinge te mors nie.

DO NOT LET PROSPERITY MISLEAD YOU

1 Joh. 2:15-16… 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

“But it is God who has blessed me with all of these,” is what man would say. It could be true, but how much do you love these things? What place do sport, possessions and all the various modes of recreation have in your life?

We are being warned because it can be a problem. Surely our love for the world and its things are going to compete with our love for God, and even possibly replace it! It is a fact that there are many acceptable and enjoyable things that God has provided that are NOT sins, yet we have to ensure that we use it in such a way that Holy Spirit approves of it. It is not difficult to know that there are things that are not wrong to be enjoyed but we can just as easily agree that they have no eternal value.

Father, Your Creation is absolutely wonderful - thank you that I can enjoy its beauty. Thank you for the enjoyment of taste, food, and music that provides relaxation – all part of how You have created us. Nevertheless, Lord, at the top of my my list is to know You and to do what You ask. Holy Spirit, help me not to waste my time on useless stuff.

STREEF NA ‘N LEWE VAN GESPREKKE MET GOD

Hab 2:1… 1Vyandelike leërs omsingel jou, Nineve! Beman julle wagposte! Hou die paaie dop! Wees slaggereed! Versterk jou met alle mag!
Habakuk lewe in ‘n tyd waar God oënskynlik teenstrydig handel. Hy gebruik ‘n slegte nasie om “Sy kinders” (wat hardkoppig afdwaal) te straf sodat Hul na Hom sal terugkeer. Dat God se volk gestraf word, is nie maklik om te verduidelik nie, maar Habakuk sê dat hy sy tyd gaan neem, by ‘n geestelike wagpos stelling inneem en op God se antwoord wag. En God antwoord hom.
Hy sê wat Habakuk en ons moet weet, tussen al hierdie slegte goed wat gebeur, sal die regverdige mens wat God dien nog steeds deur die geloof lewe! Al ervaar jy lyding saam met die onregverdiges, is daar ‘n “lewe van geloof” wat jou sal deurdra. Hulle wat God ken, kan saamleef met die oënskynlike teenstrydigheid wat daar is om lyding te deurstaan terwyl jy aan die Koning van konings behoort.
Vader, ek weet wat die einde vir my inhou – ‘n ewige lewe saam met U. Ook besef ek maar te deeglik dat ek nog deel van hierdie wêreld is. Dankie dat U ons in elke situasie bystaan, waarvan ons dalk nie eers die “hoekoms” mooi verstaan nie.

PURSUE A LIFE OF CONVERSATION WITH GOD

Habakkuk 2:1… 1I will take my stand at my watch post and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.

Habakkuk lived during a time when God apparently acted contradictory. God used a very bad nation to punish His “children” (who had deliberately gone astray) in order to get them to return to Him. Those things were not easy to explain but Habakkuk said that he was going to take his time, sit at a spiritual watch post and wait for God’s answer. God answered him.

He said what Habakkuk and we need to know: Amidst all these bad things that happen, righteous people who serve God will still live by FAITH! If you are enduring suffering along with the unrighteous, the “life of faith” will carry you through. Those who know God can live with the apparent ambiguity of being in a situation of agony while still being a child of the King of kings.

Father, I know that my end will be eternal life with You. I also know very well that I am still part of this world. Thank you for helping us in every situation even if we do not know the answers.

IT NEVER STOPS!

1 Joh. 1:7… 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Obedience is not to be practiced only occasionally. No, it is a continuous action until the end. We must act appropriately without stopping, we must be humble at all times and constantly demonstrate His love. “Then” we will share in the love for one another and we will experience an ongoing cleansing by the blood of Jesus. In such a way we will live as Jesus has showed us.

Does it sound to be rather difficult? Yes, but only if we try to accomplish it on our own. However, there is this powerful passage about the cleansing power and help available to us all the time and manifesting in us “continually”. It is not limited to sins being washed away, like when we first got saved, it is at our disposal every moment. What more can we ask for?

Thank you, Lord, that You are there for us all the time, that the blood of Jesus is working in us and is constantly accessible to us. Thank you that it cleanses us continually and makes it easier for us to live like Jesus.

DIT HOU NIE OP NIE!

1 Joh 1:7…7As ons optrede egter van die lig getuig, leef ons soos Hy wat in die lig is en het ons volledig deel aan mekaar, en die bloed van Jesus, sy Seun, maak ons skoon van elke sonde.
Gehoorsaamheid is nie net ‘n nou en dan-storie nie. Nee, dit is ‘n aanhoudende aksie tot aan die einde. Gedurig moet ons reg optree, aanhoudend moet ons nederig wees en deurentyd liefde betoon. En “dan” deel ons in ‘n pragtige “liefde vir mekaar” en ervaar ons ‘n “aanhoudende” reiniging deur Jesus se bloed. Op hierdie manier leef ons soos wat Jesus sou.
Klink dit moeilik? Ja, as ons dit uit onsself moes doen, sou dit moeilik wees, maar daar is hierdie kragtige gedeelte wat beteken dat wanneer ons reg wandel, Jesus se bloed ‘n “aanhoudendende werking” in ons het. Dit is nie net beperk tot die reiniging van sonde met bekering nie; dit is heeltyd daar vir ons. Waarvoor kan ons meer vra? Glo my maar, die krag in die bloed van Jesus is verstommend groot!
Dankie, Here, vir U voortdurende betrokkenheid in ons lewens en dat Jesus se bloed en lewe elke dag en elke uur in ons werk. Dankie dat U ons gedurig skoon was, ons onderrig en dit ook vir ons makliker maak om elke dag soos Jesus te leef.
