Fifty years after the youth of 1976 changed South Africa, we continue investing in the future of young women.

On 16 June 1976, young South Africans walked out of their classrooms and changed the course of the country. Their courage continues to remind us that education matters. That opportunity matters. And that young people deserve support, guidance, and belief in their potential.

This Youth Day, Loreto Convent School, Pretoria proudly launches the Alumni Mentorship & Youth Pilot. The initiative connects Loreto alumnae with current and recent matric learners - helping young women navigate the important transition from school into tertiary studies, careers, and adulthood. Because supporting young women has always been part of the Loreto tradition.

🏃‍♀️ Loreto Pride at the Comrades Marathon! 🏅

Our staff members don't just inspire in the classroom - they lead by example on the road, too! We are bursting with pride and absolutely inspired by two of our incredible Loreto Convent staff members who tackled the ultimate human race this past weekend.

A massive congratulations to Lezanne Grove and Susandra Albertyn for conquering the gruelling Comrades Marathon. Showing true grit, determination, and that unstoppable Loreto spirit, they crossed the finish line and proved what hard work can achieve.

Lezanne Grove completed her phenomenal 6th Comrades Marathon! 🥈

Susandra Albertyn successfully conquered her 2nd Comrades Marathon! 🥉

Mrs Albertyn completed the race in 11:31:53 and Mrs Grové in 10:52:50, so both reached the finish line before the cut-off time! Mrs Grove earned herself a bronze medal to top it off!

A legacy built in 1878 still shapes learners today.

148 years ago today, Mother Margaret Mary Jolivet - a French nun who travelled from Ireland by boat to Durban, by stagecoach to Pietermaritzburg, and by ox-wagon to Pretoria - opened the doors of a small school with just 26 pupils.

That school is still here. The gates still open every morning. The values still hold. The standard still matters.

What began as a small school in Pretoria has become a lifelong community that now stretches across nine countries and generations of Loreto women and families.

Loreto’s story has always been about more than education. It is about courage, faith, discipline, leadership, and forming young women who will make meaningful contributions to the world around them.

For nine consecutive years, Loreto Convent School, Pretoria has achieved a 100% matric pass rate.

Between 2017 and 2025, 540 girls sat for the National Senior Certificate examinations. Every single one passed.
