The Reformed Church Potchefstroom the Bult was founded on 30 October 2011 after two Reformed Church congregations, Noordbrug and Noord, joined together to become one church congregation. Thus, we are still a very much a new church family, even though many of our members have been in the church for a long time! Potchefstroom used to be a town in which the majority of people were Afrikaans speaking.
As more and more international students came to study at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University, it became clear that there was a need for an English or International Ministry to begin. This work started approximately 15 years ago and has developed since then, to such an extent that we now have English services throughout the year. The international ministry of the Bult congregation is supported and encouraged by the existing Afrikaans congregation, who meet together on Sundays at 09:30 and 18:00 in the church building. There are approximately 40-50 people who regularly come to the English services, and as Potchefstroom becomes more and more multi-racial, we look forward to welcoming many more international and English-speaking South Africans into our church. Even though we have English and Afrikaans services, we consider ourselves to be one church congregation. Our Afrikaans services are translated into English, so everyone is welcome to also attend them. We also hold lunches together and other events where church members from both the English and the Afrikaans services enjoy each otherโs company.
