*A GODLY HOME (1)*

*In building a godly home, the first port of call will be to identify that which makes a home, marriage being the starting point.*

Matthew 19:3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Vs 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Vs 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

Jesus answered a question posed by the Pharisees concerning marriage. He draws our attention to what marriage ought to be. Jesus makes reference to two texts from the book of Genesis.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

In the creation of man, we have male, and female. The male leaves his father and mother to cleave to a female who becomes his wife and they become one flesh. Marriage therefore is a union of the male man (husband) and the female man (wife) or woman. Hence anything that veers outside this cannot be a godly home.

Paul also in his epistle to the Ephesians makes reference to Genesis 2:24 in explaining marriage and the conduct of the wife and the husband in marriage.

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Vs 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Vs 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Vs 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Vs 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Vs 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Vs 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Vs 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Vs 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Vs 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Vs 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Paul’s explanation of Genesis 2:24 therefore is concerning Christ and the church. Paul however uses this union of Christ and his Church (his body) and demonstration of his love for his body to teach the husband and wife their responsibilities in the marital institution. The husband-wife relationship explained in Genesis 2:24 therefore is to mirror Christ and the church.

Hence the godly home will be such as mirrors the union and relationship between Christ and the church.

*Key Note:* Marriage which lays the foundation for a godly home is between a male and female and their union and conduct is to mirror the union and relationship between Christ and the Church.

The father builds the church
Christ is the revelation and Christ must always be revealed.
John 3:3-5
The water there, Jesus was referring to the spirit
Kai rule was used therefore the word and there is not a conjunctive word rather an explanatory.
The indwelling of the spirit is the Father in the believer.
The destination is the indwelling of the Father
The father in dwells us by his spirit. He is the source and the source will live in you. The father builds his family in a way that he is sufficient. I am sufficient, God is my sufficiency.
Eph 2:19-20
Don't stay in the visitors'. The family of God is built on Christ. He is the first born, and we're in him.
God's house of worship has become man. This family is that every it's member carries the progenitor of the father. One who lives in you does not visit you. He will express himself always.
Eph 2:22
The word habitation means a fixed adress therefore we have made God a fixed adress. I'm the habitation of God now. The believer is God's fixed adress. All God's activities on the earth are in his children. Therefore the glory of God is in us. I'm the house of God's glory. The father lives me completely.
Any christ outside the believer is a thief. A false prophet will always preach false christ. False prophets will know them by their content and they will produce false believers. False prophets will also have signs and wonders and the reason for such will be for seduction, for seduction to empty your pockets. They will seduce you from finding the Bible Christ. The Bible Christ does not visit believers, rather he dwells in the believer.
Mat 16:13-18
The church is the family. The father founded the family, this the church is the work of the father. John 5'17 - 19 the father is the founder of the family
John 14:10-12
We have come to realize the work of the father. The father was involved in the incarnation, in the 3 years of Jesus's ministry. The father was involved in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The father's work is the son.
John 15:1
It is the Father in the work, not a joint effort. The father nurtures us into growth. Our spiritual growth is not the father abandoning to see what will be, our spiritual growth is our family fact. It is the Father working to nurture us and grow. It is the responsibility of the father to feed us to spiritual growth. He is the husbandman, we're not bastards. We're trained by the father, we're instructed by the father.

John 14:2
I'm going to prepare a room in you for the father to dwell. We're the father manifest
John 14:20
*In* The just shall live by faith means "we were in sin and we're justified by faith and we live" We are alive by justification by faith.
"I go to prepare a place for you" What is the going for? The beneficiary is you
What is coming to the father? Coming to the father is related to the going to prepare a place. Is the going to the father absence from you? No, it is actually the presence. Therefore the going is the coming.
John 14:18-21, 24
My going is my coming to make an abode in you.
John 14:26,28
Going away is coming to you.
John 15:26, John 16:7
The truth of spirit that I sent will come to you, I will not leave you comfortless, I will come and live in you.
The father's right hand means that the father will not be seen only the son. All authority is with the son.
How was the father glorified in the son when Jesus rose from the dead and brought many with him.
He was first to be raised from the spiritual death.
He became the head of the body, he rose with new humanity, that is the father's glory. The glory of the resurrection. The glory of the incarnation of Jesus. Jesus is the glory of the father. One who was glory is now glorified.
John 17:2
Giving us eternal life is now the glory of the resurrection.
The gospel Jesus preached didn't change the political status of people
During the days apostle Paul, slavery was in place.
The knowledge of Christ is the destination. Knowledge of Christ is self sufficiency.
John 17:1,2
The glory of the father is to give eternal life to many.
John 17:2-4
The power of Jesus over all flesh is to give eternal life. Glorify the glorification. Jesus has become the prototype, the first begotten from the dead.
You're in me in that day, you shall realize that
Romans 10:8-10, 13
The believer is the saved.
1 Peter 1:23
The believer is the born again.
Eph 2:18-23
In whom, in Christ, in him
It's not accidental (IN)
John 14:17
In. Revelation is to put your mind on the truth.
2 Corinthians 5:18..
God is not holding sinners for their sins because he made Jesus accountable for their sins. The entire gospel can only understood by its prepositions.
Acts 1:4, 7: 2:33
In the resurrection the glorified son is glorified by giving eternal life to many sons.
The name of Jesus belongs to me. "In my accomplishments you shall raise the dead, cast out devils, heal the sick,,,"

CHRISTOCENTRIC MEAL

*PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT*

*In explaining the utterance gifts, Paul explained an important concept which is “Praying in the spirit”*

1st Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
Vs 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

He had in the proceeding verses explained that prophecy is to speak with tongues and then interpret the same for the edification of others.

In verse 14, he then pointed to how that when the believer prays in tongues, he prays IN THE SPIRIT. On the basis of this, he says “I will pray with the spirit (in tongues) and I will pray in the understanding (the interpretation of what was said in tongues) also.

The same term (Praying in the spirit) was used in two other texts in the epistles.

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, *praying in the Holy Ghost*,

Ephesians 6:18 *Praying always* with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Therefore, “praying always in the spirit” (Ephesians 6:18) and “praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 20) refer to praying in tongues. This is such an activity that the believer can undertake regularly, based on the fact that the spirit lives in him!

Now, let’s take a look at the fruit of the spirit:

*The Fruit of the spirit*

With the reality of the indwelling of the spirit in the believer well explained, and also certain concepts explained as based on his, it is trite to also examine how the epistles explained the fruit of the spirit. The indwelling of the spirit as much as can be understood with regards to the gifts in the spirit, it is important to see also the fact that it was used to teach the fruit of the spirit.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Vs 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The word “fruit” used here is a word that implies the result of something. Observe that his use of the word “spirit” in the book of Galatians was to refer to the promise of the spirit which has been fulfilled in us, the spirit of his son which has been sent into our hearts, in other words the spirit that lives in us.

Thus, we can understand the “fruit of the spirit” as the result of the indwelling of the spirit, or the result of the new birth, being born of the spirit. We can therefore say of the believer that the result of the spirit living in him is what is explained here as the fruit of the spirit:

“...love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance”

He mentioned nine things which he explained as the result of the spirit in us. (verse 22 and 23). Then he stated in verse 24:

“...If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”

The word “if” here does not serve as an introduction to a conditional statement, rather to a certain one. He was not asking or finding out whether the believer lives in the spirit, rather he was affirming this fact in line what he had written earlier in this letter.

We can thus understand verse 24 better as “SINCE we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit...”

Therefore, the fruit of the spirit has a bearing on the believers’ walk; that is, his conduct.

CONFESSION: “I am born of the spirit, the result of the spirit in me is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance. I walk in my nature”

THE BELIEVER’S RELATIONSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP WITH THE FATHER

1st John 1:3
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Vs 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
Vs 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

John was emphatic by using the word “fellowship,” a word that implies to participate; to share in and also to make something available. Thus, John identifies what the believer has in union with Christ.

However, the word “fellowship” is in no way likened to the believer’s relationship with God. There has been a seeming assumption that once a man believes the gospel, he has a relationship with God (in and through Christ) and based on this can enjoy fellowship with the Father, thereby attempting to create a non-existent dichotomy.

To avoid succumbing to any misconception, it is important to understand the subject of “identification”. This will help us understand that, in the revelation of Christ is found the revelation of the believer. This was emphasized by Jesus and the apostles; most especially in the Pauline epistles.

• Jesus- Matthew 16:13-18
In verse 17, the term “flesh and blood” refers to human perception which in other words implies that Jesus can only be seen and known by revelation.
• Peter- 1st Peter 2:4-5
Whilst making reference to the phrase “…ye are lively stones”,

Peter was talking about the believer. Also, the word “living” used for Jesus in verse 4 was translated from a similar Greek word as “lively” used for the believer in verse 5. Hence, just like Jesus, we are living stones; thus explaining IDENTIFICATION with HIM.

• John- 1st John 4:17
John points to the believer’s identification with Jesus when he stated that “…as he is, so are we in this world”.

We can therefore summarize the teaching of the epistles by carefully examining the use of the word “fellowship” (communication, distribution, contribution, communion) in the following references: Romans 15:26; 1st Corinthians 1:9; 1st Corinthians 10:16; 2nd Corinthians 6:14; 2nd Corinthians 8:4; 2nd Corinthians 9:13; 2nd Corinthians 13:14; Galatians 2:9; Ephesians 3:9; Philippians 1:5; Philippians 2:1; Philippians 3:10; Philemon 6; Hebrews 13:16; 1st John 1:3,6 & 7.

Paul specifically made use of the word “fellowship” in reference to giving; ministering to the saints which in other words implies that when there is fellowship, there is giving or contribution. This is why when we read the above texts in context, we find that fellowship does not refer to everyone giving but one party gives and the other receives what is being made available.

With this we can understand John’s reference to the word “fellowship” in 1st John 1. He tells us expressly that the one who made fellowship available is the FATHER (verse 3). We are his sons and he is our father. Hence, our relationship with God is our fellowship with him and vice versa (no distinctions whatsoever).

The Fatherhood of God is entrenched in the epistles; the Pauline epistles carried this thought pattern in the introductory section of his letters.

Romans 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1st Corinthians 1:3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Galatians 1:3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

Ephesians 1:2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hence, whilst explaining the word “fellowship”, God did the giving (contribution; distribution), we did the receiving thereby making the believer the recipient of what was given only by the Father.

This was the platform upon which John as well as other writers of the epistles points to the fact that we have forgiveness in Christ, having received of the Father through Christ (1st John 1:9; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14; Colossians 2:13).

*CONFESSION: I am a recipient of all that God has done in Christ. I am a Son of God today and God is my Father always!*

JESUS OUR ADVOCATE

*1st John 2:1 My little children, these things write I to you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: Vs 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.*

Unbelief was referred to in the bible several times as evil.

Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

So Cain is called evil because of unbelief. Unbelief is in hatred for truth and was demonstrated in the way Cain killed his brother.

From Genesis 4, men were seen in those two lights: Unbelief or faith.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Was Adam a sinner before he sinned? No! If he were, that would mean God made him a sinner.

Sin means to fall short; to miss it; to be less than; to miss a standard. So, you must miss something for it to become sin. Adam missed something.

In Genesis, there was the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life. To miss it here means to leave tree of life for tree of knowledge of good and evil. There must be an action to miss it.

Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

That word 'disobedience' is unbelief. Adam didn't believe in the gift of life. Sin entered into the world through Adam's action of unbelief, and action of disobedience. So, he wasn't made a sinner by God. Unbelief and faith is demonstrated in man's free will. God gave man the license to sin because he gave man a free will to exercise; the right to choose. That license was what Adam used. So people sin because they are men and exercise the power of choice.

When God told Adam 'thou mayest freely eat…,' that already presupposes choice. The choice against the word of God is called unbelief. That would still be his choice. He wasn't a sinner to make that choice. He was just a man. It was a man who made that choice.

In New Testament language, four other words are used to describe sin:

 Transgression (meaning to break a rule- Romans 4:25, Romans 5:14, Hebrews 9:15)
 Iniquity (2nd Timothy 2:19, Titus 2:14, Hebrews 8:12)
 Unrighteousness (1st John 1:9, 2nd Corinthians 6:14, Romans 6:13)
 Trespass (meaning to sidestep- Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:1

Sin entered the world via Adam's disobedience.

Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

In the blood of Jesus, this was redeemed, paid for.

1st John 3:4 Whoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Whether iniquity, transgression or trespasses, everything was paid for by the blood of Jesus. However, some words were used for believers. It will help the consciousness of a believer when he sins.

Romans 5:15 But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded to many.

1st John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

In our fellowship with the father, we are cleansed.

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

The phrase, ‘overtaken in a trespass’ was used for the Believer. The use of that word implies that he is now overwhelmed by it.

There are two ways to look at it: It is either he is caught up in the habit of sin or caught up in the guilt of it.

This refers to Believers. Jesus is our Advocate with the Father when we sin, so the Holy Ghost knew that sons of God would sin.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: Vs 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God's communication was in dark speeches to Moses. We will find truths hidden in symbols like the tree, the serpent, the fruit etc. You won't find sin. That means sin was symbolized by the eating of tree of knowledge of good and evil. Life was present there as the tree of life which is symbolic.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Vs 2 The same was in the beginning with God. Vs 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Vs 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

In Jesus is life. In Genesis, there was a mixture of symbols and reality.

Sin entered the world in Genesis 3, but the very first time sin was mentioned in bible lexicon is Genesis 4.

Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

The word, ‘sin’ in the text above refers to sin offering. Abel just offered an offering before God. Sin was first mentioned when Cain was about to kill his brother.

Why was Cain angry?

Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: Vs 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

This is prior to the first manifestation of Sin. Who was he angry at? Was he angry against Abel for offering a good offering?

1st John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Vs 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

What works were evil, and what works were righteous?

Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Abel's work was faith. Cain's work were his works. Abel received God's redemptive promise. Cain came by his own merits.

Faith was based on how they came to God. Abel by faith, Cain by his own merits. Notice that, the sin was present before the murder. In Cain, unbelief presented itself as self-righteousness. In Abel, faith presented itself as righteousness via the works of another. Hatred is a child of self righteousness. The mother of hatred is self righteousness. Self-righteousness is the manifestation of unbelief.

There was self-righteousness because of unbelief. They knew man should not come to God by merit because God covered their parents with offering (animal in Genesis 3). Cain killed Abel. Cain had hatred for the truth.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the demon, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. Vs 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Remembrance of Me.
*LUKE 22: 19*
*And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, this is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. (KJV)*

The death of Jesus was for our salvation and at the same time for our example in conduct. Apostle Paul used the death of Jesus to teach various conduct of the believer toward one another. The celebration of the Passover feast did not start with Jesus. He was not the one who instituted the Passover feast or what is now called holy communion. The Passover was among many feasts instituted by Moses. It was an annual feast celebrated to remember the deliverance of the Israelites from the judgment of death in Egypt which was a typology of our salvation from the judgment of sin. Jesus was born under the law and for that matter came to meet it and participated in the celebration of such an annual feast. In the account of the 4 gospels, the last Passover feast with his disciples was recorded because of what happened at that time.

From the beginning of the celebration of this feast till the time Jesus had with his disciples, they celebrated it as a normal religious feast to commemorate an event without knowing the message it carries. They were not aware that it was a typology of something to be fulfilled in the future. It was at that last Passover feast Jesus had with his disciples that Jesus took the opportunity to explain to them the significance of the feast. It was recorded that Jesus took the bread and broke it and said it was about his body to be broken for them which is about his death. Jesus then said, anytime they take the bread and drink the cup, they should do it in remembrance of him.

In remembrance of him was not talking about memorial service. Jesus was not saying that they should continue to do it to remember his death. Jesus was saying anytime they do it, they should do it with him in focus because the feast was about him. At first, they didn’t know but now they know. Jesus was not instituting a memorial service, but he was teaching his disciples the revelation behind the feast of the Passover. What was done in ignorance by the Jews and his disciples was explained by Jesus. They were, therefore, to do it with him in mind because he had to die to bring to reality what was done in typology. The use of the word remembrance is about bringing to mind the meaning or the message of the Passover feast they were doing before its fulfilment in his death and resurrection. It was to bring to mind what was yet to take place.

*Jesus is the revelation behind the feast of the Passover.*
