Imbali Ward 19 Youth Desk Creating a youth friendly society, transparency, taking responsibility and decipline

20/03/2026

Media Statement
Released : 20 March 2026

Yesterday community members of ward 19 came out in numbers with the guidance of SAPS, Ward 19 business forum, civil organization and community activists and they closed all tuckshops/Spaza shops of illegal foreigners, in particular the Somalian, Pakistan and Ethiopian who have no legal or constitutional rights to trade in this country.

As the ward 19 Youth Desk without any fear of contradictions, we fully support this initiative and progressive action by members of this community, we have been suffocated for too long, our township economy has been captured by these foreign forces for far too long and it is high time that we reclaim our township spaces and Reclaim our township economy.

We also want to plead with all the activists, business people, civil organization and all concerned residents to make sure that this new wave of action in unity and holding accountable those that destroy our community does not fade away, as young people we wish that when we are done with the illegal foreigners, we must go after those who are selling drugs and killing our community, in particular killing us as young people, ultimately killing the future of this community.

Drugs are destroying and killing us as young people and we need the help of patriots who will end the trade and use of drugs in ward 19, these drugs have destroyed families, killed our brothers and sisters, destroyed the talented young people and some have even committed su***de because of these drugs.

As the ward 19 Youth Desk we will be engaging with all the stakeholders to embark on massive anti-drug awareness campaigns.

End.

Greetings family, we have exciting news!!

Yesterday on the 14th August we met as Youth Desk collective and had a meeting, as part of the things we discussed, we talked about the vacuum that has been created by the Youth Desk not organizing and hosting community-youth-development programmes, we engaged about the challenges we've faced especially in relation to the lack of resources in particular financially, it was revealed to us the damage done by this vacuum where now young people who used to participate in our programmes have fallen prey to systemic social ills such as teenage pregnancy and drug abuse and as the Youth Desk collective we would like to apologize to all young people and we took a resolution that we're going challenge and confront all these issues with the ultimate goal of making sure that young people are preoccupied with progressive programmes which will shape their trajectory towards a better future.

We also engaged on the need of creating our own funding model which will ensure that our programmes do not collapse due to not having "sponsorship" or people who are funding us.

After one year and 8 months of not hosting any programme, we would like to introduce the Mother Of All Ingoma festival. This programme will revive the love for Afrikan culture in our community especially among young people because as Steve Biko once asserted "a people without any culture is like a vehicle without an engine", so with this programme we intend to teach young people about the importance of preserving our cultures and there's no other perfect way to do that except to do it through arts, especially Ingoma yakwaNtu.

As the Youth Desk we've always planned and organized our programmes according to what young people are currently engaged in and love, so Ingoma is currently the biggest thing right now amongst young people, we can see that even in universities they have organized themselves as societies, hosting Ingoma sessions and outside within the communities, young people have Ingoma groups and are really inlove and committed to Ingoma.

We would like to call upon all young people and Ingoma groups to register and participate in our upcoming Mother Of All Ingoma Festival which will be a competition. The registration is free and winners will win money. (we will not disclose the amount for now)

When we started the Imbali Ward 19 Youth Desk we had said as young people we are no longer going to be spectators and we're going to take full charge and responsibility of our lives and community because if not us then who and if not now then when.

As Imbali Ward 19 Youth Desk we would like to congratulate UMgungundlovu TVET college drama group for winning in the CoSACSA Festival and we also like to wish them well as they go to Mpumalanga on the 22nd of August to represent the province of KwaZulu-Natal in finals and we're confident that they will be victorious and crowned the national champions.

We also commend the great work done by one of our founding members Kwanele Bhungane who is the writer and director of all the shows that UMgungundlovu TVET college drama group has been performing since 2023.

We say keep up the good work!!
