Media Statement
Released : 20 March 2026
Yesterday community members of ward 19 came out in numbers with the guidance of SAPS, Ward 19 business forum, civil organization and community activists and they closed all tuckshops/Spaza shops of illegal foreigners, in particular the Somalian, Pakistan and Ethiopian who have no legal or constitutional rights to trade in this country.
As the ward 19 Youth Desk without any fear of contradictions, we fully support this initiative and progressive action by members of this community, we have been suffocated for too long, our township economy has been captured by these foreign forces for far too long and it is high time that we reclaim our township spaces and Reclaim our township economy.
We also want to plead with all the activists, business people, civil organization and all concerned residents to make sure that this new wave of action in unity and holding accountable those that destroy our community does not fade away, as young people we wish that when we are done with the illegal foreigners, we must go after those who are selling drugs and killing our community, in particular killing us as young people, ultimately killing the future of this community.
Drugs are destroying and killing us as young people and we need the help of patriots who will end the trade and use of drugs in ward 19, these drugs have destroyed families, killed our brothers and sisters, destroyed the talented young people and some have even committed su***de because of these drugs.
As the ward 19 Youth Desk we will be engaging with all the stakeholders to embark on massive anti-drug awareness campaigns.
End.
