JESUS IS THE GIFT
As we move towards this Christmas season (2025) most Christians in the world celebrate the birth of our Saviour and King, Jesus Christ through gifts. I want to focus on the gift that we received from our amazingly loving Father God – the gift of His son, Jesus Christ, who died so that we could be redeemed from our sinful natures. Eph 1:3 states that God blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. If you think about this scripture, you must realize what these spiritual blessings are. They have nothing to do with our earthly life, health and wealth. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we received every spiritual blessing we could ever need and those include salvation, redemption, grace, mercy, etc. Most importantly - eternal life! Thinking of this I must weigh my carnal desires up against what I received from my heavenly Father. To be honest, they pale in comparison! Nothing on this earth can come close to what God has already given me!
In Eph 1:7 Paul talks about the redemption we received through the sacrifice of Jesus. When you think about the word redemption you have to understand what this really means. Redemption value on something is what the creator of that object will pay to get it back – like glass cold drink bottles we could take back to get some money for it when I was a young girl. This is how it is with us and God. He created us and gave us free will to do with it what we want. But He put a redemption value on us because He wanted us to return to Him. The difference here is that the redemption value God put on our lives far exceeds the worth of the actual object he created (us). The value is the extremely high price of the life of His Son, Jesus Christ. My mind is blown and goes blank as I think about how much He values us, that He would pay that high a price for our lives, and my spirit becomes alive in worship and thankfulness for a love such as that!
May you all remember that this Christmas! When the Christmas lights of the world shines bright and joyful, let His eternal light enlighten your spirit and being with the knowledge and wisdom it takes to GET this! He is the light of the world, and His light needs to shine through our lives!
I pray over all of you the prayer of Paul for the Ephesians:
Eph 1:15-22 (NIV)
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
