Kehillat Ohr Yisroel - Paarl Shul 🖐🏼Five ideas before Shabbat Emor 5️⃣ by Sivan Rahav-Meir.

1) This Shabbat we will read *Parashat Emor*, the eighth parsha in the Book of Vayikra.

2) Our parasha contains 63 mitzvot. The first section of the parasha focuses mainly on the Kohanim and their service in the Beit HaMikdash, and the second section on the cycle of the Jewish year. How moving it is to read about festivals that we are still celebrating today, thousands of years after the Torah was given: Sukkot and the Four Species; the fast of Yom Kippur; eating matzah on Pesach; blowing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah; Sefirat HaOmer; Shabbat; and Shavuot.

3) Over the past few weeks, we have been observing the mitzvah of Sefirat HaOmer, as we count each day between Pesach and the receiving of the Torah on Shavuot. Next Monday night we will celebrate Lag Ba’Omer.

4) The haftarah of Parshat Emor is taken from the Book of Yechezkel. The prophet Yehezkel addresses the kohanim and urges them to teach the people about mitzvah observance and good deeds in addition to overseeing the sacrificial service in the Beit HaMikdash.

5) Today, *Friday*, the fourteenth of Iyar, is known as “*Pesach Sheini*.” The background for this holiday is an incident that took place when the Children of Israel were in the desert. A group of men approached Moshe Rabbeinu and told him that they were unable to participate in the original Pesach because they had been ritually impure. They asked for a second chance. In an unusual and unprecedented move, God accepted their request. Ever since that time, Pesach Sheini has served as a reminder that we should never give up. Second chances are always possible, and we may always turn to God with our requests and pray for His salvation.

Good Shabbos & Shalom al Yisroel 🌞🕊️💫👋💫🕊️☀️

Hi my dear friends,

Just a reminder that tonight and tomorow night are Yom Tov—the final days of Pesach. These days are just as important as the first, and in a sense, they complete them.

While the first days mark the Exodus from Egypt, our redemption was only fully realized at Kriyat Yam Suf—the splitting of the Sea (often called the Red Sea, but more accurately the Reed Sea). It was there that the Egyptian army was finally defeated, and our freedom became complete. That moment stands as one of the great miracles that solidified our relationship with Hashem.

In many ways, we find ourselves today in a similar place—facing challenges from without, struggles from within, and at times feeling as though we are standing before a sea with no clear way forward.

Yet the message remains timeless: “Daber el Bnei Yisrael v’yisa’u”—“Speak to the children of Israel and let them move forward.” Even in uncertainty, we are called upon to act with faith and courage.

Especially now, as our brothers and sisters in Israel are sitting in shelters facing bombs raining down on them , let us strengthen ourselves through tefillah. Let us come together in shul—praying with one another and for one another.

Let us ensure that our shuls, too, are filled—with people, with spirit, with connection, and with the deep and enduring relationship we share with Hashem. To be cherish means to feel the pain of other Jews.

Wishing you all many blessings. With love and gratitude let us alll celebrate and daven for our own splitting of the sea.

Chag Sameach.

We start the 3rd of the Five Books of Moses.. The Book of *Vayikra* .
May the Middle Eastern War, which effected Israel initially, then spread to the entire region and is now financially and politically impacting the whole world come to a favorable end.

May the beginning of this Book, herald a new beginning to our peace, to our safety, to our Land of Israel and to the Final Redemption... 🙏🏼Please😩 G-D!

Good Shabbos😘

My Thoughts - Parshas Yisro
By Dovid Jubiler

There are many lessons in the Torah that are not plain laws.

As early on as in the time of Noah, the Torah gives us lessons in Midos (ethical practice). Hashem tells Noah to put into the ark PURE/CLEAN animals as well as animals that are 👉🏼"Not pure" rather than referring to those animals in a negative sense, as IMPURE. G-d taught us a lesson in discretion with His careful choice of words.

This week Yisro (Jethro), Moshe's father-in-law comes to meet the Children of Israel in the desert. Upon his arrival, Moses goes out to honour Yisro and when they're face to face... there is an immediate polite exchange of pleasantries.
So often, we meet a colleague, friend or family member and we jump straight into "business" without talking the small extra time in order to genuinely ask after each other and their close ones.

In the epic Pirkei Avos (Ethics of our Fathers), we are instructed to greet one another with a favorable disposition.
It does wonders to set the tone for a warm relationship.
May you have a friendly, warm and wonderful Shabbos.

MY THOUGHTS - Parshas SHMOS - Exodus

DOVID JUBILER

On Friday nights I always quizzed our children on the Torah portion (Parsha) that would be read the next day in Shul.
I often caught at least one of them out with the question: "What is the name of the portion and the name of the book that it comes from? " ... "because this one is SPECIAL!"

So tomorrow we read Parshas Shmos and it comes from the Book of Shmos... they both have the same name. Yes, we begin the 2nd Sefer (Book) of the 5 Books of Moses tomorrow.
I would always try to make it to Shul on time, to doven (pray) with special intensity and to try and be exceptionally good in keeping everything 100%.

Why? This is because I believe that Good beginnings make Good endings and that the journey between the two should be good as well.

May I wish you a GOOD BEGINNING as we start a new chapter and may your journey be always GOOD.

Have a wonderful Shabbos.

Can we draw inspiration one last time as we arrive at the end of the 1st of the 5 Books of Moses this week?
As Yaakov (Jacob) lay dying, he called his sons for final words & blessings.
To Yehuda (Judah) – he attributes the quality of a LION – Well he is the head of our tribes
But then, Jacob confers to his son Yissoschor the quality of a donkey. Yissoschor was the tribe of Torah scholars.
Now the uppermost goal of all Jews through all of time is to learn Torah and to the son who is the fulfillment of this ideal, Jacob says DONKEY!

A PARRABLE:
A stone mason would hew big chunks of rock from the quarry, heave them into his wagon in order to take them up the hill to the town. To pull the wagon he hired a huge work-horse, you know, not the race-horse type but a Beast of burden type.
When the hitched horse approached the hill, it looked up at the incline and…flat refused to take another step. The horse saw the work ahead and though “uh uh…no way!”
No matter how the stone mason tried, the beast would not move.
A nearby farmer saw the commotion and offered his donkey as a loan. The stone mason, out of options, hitched the diminutive animal to the cart and with a small slap on it’s rump, the donkey looked down and step by step, plodded onward…and UP the hill.

THE INTERPRETATION
We all know how important learning Torah is but then we enter a Shul library, full of Torah Seforim (Books) from floor to ceiling, we say “uh uh…no way!” We can’t learn and become as wise and great as the Gedolim (the Great Rabbis). It is just too much!!

So let us be like the donkey and take it step-by-step. Listen to a podcast while driving, read a small Torah message (like this one), pick up a pamphlet in the Shul, attend a shiur (Torah class) etc. Slowly, in bite size bits, we will gain familiarity and enthusiasm as we begin to see more & more, get excited as we plumb the depths of the secrets revealed as we advance our skills.

Let me say that this is how we should approach all challenges and as we begin the 2nd book next Shabbos, we will see that the challenges we faced seemed very great but we all know how well it ends!

"Be Strong.. BE STRONG and we WILL be strengthened!"
"Chazak.. CHAZAK veNitChazeik!""

Good Shabbos!

THE SHABBOS PROJECT

MY THOUGHTS - PARSHAS VAYEIRA
07/08 November 2025
16/17Cheshvan 5786

Is it not a coincidence that this Shabbos Project falls on the Parsha where Avraham, who prayed and waited 99 long years for a son, to have his dream fulfilled?

In this Parsha, the famous Akeidas Yitzchok - The Binding of Isaac is told.

Isaac is 37 yrs old, Abraham, 136 when Hashem tells him to "take your son, your only son, the one that you love" and to bring him as a SACRIFICE!

So Avraham answers "I'm here!" Gets up early, makes his own preparations and sets out to do just that.
We know that it turns out that he's prevented from doing this and substitutes a ram for his son. All is well in the end and we blow the Ram's horn (Shofar) on the High Holy days.

So can we learn, in this Shabbos Project something from the Parsha? My thoughts are that no matter your level of observance, each of us should take that extra step to keeping at least this Shabbos better than last Shabbos.

It's a sacrifice but as we well know... all is well in the end.
Good Shabbos
