Today we celebrate a historic milestone in the life of Revival Tabernacle.
For close to 50 years, Pastor Percy Govender has faithfully served the Lord with humility, dedication, and an unwavering love for God's Kingdom. He is a man who was never afraid to get his hands dirty. His journey began with simple acts of service—driving the church combi, often being the first to leave home and the last to return, serving wherever there was a need. Through decades of faithful ministry, he helped build not only church buildings with his own hands, but also countless lives, always believing that no task is too small when it is done for the Lord.
Over 20 years ago, Pastor Percy and his late wife, Sharon Govender, answered God's call to Revival Tabernacle. Following the passing of our beloved founder, Pastor Bobby Dorasammy—a man who dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and building the church through faith, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment—Pastor Percy accepted the mantle. Together, they faithfully led Revival Tabernacle, leading many people to Christ and opening their home to many youth and boarders, loving, mentoring, and caring for them as their own. Through their faithful service, countless lives were touched, and God enabled Revival Tabernacle to establish its own permanent place of worship after years of gathering in school halls.
Today, Pastor Percy passes the baton to his youngest son, Pastor Duran Govender, and his wife, Shanel, who has faithfully served alongside him in worship ministry for the past 20 years. This is not the end of a legacy, but the continuation of one. Generations may change, but God's mission remains the same. As we see throughout Scripture, Moses passed the mantle to Joshua, Elijah to Elisha, and David prepared the way for Solomon. God's work continues from one generation to the next.
As Pastor Duran and Shanel step into this new season, we pray that God will grant them wisdom, strength, humility, and unwavering faith. May they lead with servant hearts, remain faithful to His Word, and see countless lives transformed through the Gospel. May the Lord bless and keep them, establish the work of their hands, and use them mightily for His Kingdom. We stand with you in prayer and believe that the best is yet to come.
Today, we honour nearly 50 years of faithful service, celebrate God's faithfulness through every season, and look ahead with great expectation for all that He has planned for Revival Tabernacle.
