Solid Ground

Solid Ground Discipleship and Skills Training Solid Ground aims to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Therefore our mission statement is:
"The mission of Solid Ground is to bring lasting hope to the impoverished people of South Africa by (a) teaching them the gospel message of Jesus Christ as revealed to us in the Bible and by (b) providing them with quality skills training in free courses and on-the-job training." Currently we are operating in the southern tip of Africa in Cape Town. At the same

time that we teach free basic computer skills in the townships, Masiphumelele and Ocean View, we also do on the job graphic design training in our office in Muizenberg. It is our desire to see the students grow in their skills and to transform their lives. We hope for transformation from desperation and poverty to deep and meaningful joy and contemptment. No skill in the world can do that to anyone of us unless we accept the gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore it is always the main hope of Solid Ground to teach our students about Jesus, so that they might believe in him, accept him as their Lord, and devote their lives to him. We believe that true community transformation and true personal satisfaction can only come through a friendship with Jesus Christ. As an evangelical Christian ministry, Solid Ground has adopted the widely-accepted Lausanne Covenant as its statement of faith.

Great to see my work (Missionlia) in good hands. 🙌🏼

Ross Anderson lectures missiology to all BTh students at GWC. He recently presented two papers, one at the South African Missiological Society’s (SAMS) annual conference held at Stellenbosch University, and the other at a conference on the theme “Critical discussion of evangelism in (Southern) Africa in 2023”, which took place at the University of Pretoria. After rigorous peer review, both papers were published.

The title of the SAMS paper is “Reimagining a New Social Contract in the Public Space – Evangelical Church and Society.” The paper is a reminder to readers that Christ is LORD of all, of both church and society, the sacred and the secular, the private and the public. This has important implications for what it means to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus in the context of South Africa.

The title of the second paper, published in the book Evangelism: Perspectives from an African Context, is “Mission as Evangelism in a multi-faith Society: An Evangelical Engagement with a Classic Paradigm of a Theology of Religions.” This paper argues that although evangelism is not the only dimension of the missio Dei (the mission of God), it is an indispensable dimension of God’s mission. South Africa is a nation of many different religions, and this paper addresses the need for Christians to love and witness to people of other faiths.
