CORPUS CHRISTI: COMMEMORATION OF THE HOLY COMMUNION

Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Deuteronomy 8:2-3
Psalm 147:12-20
1 Corinthians 10:16-17
John 6:51-58

The Lord Jesus used the feeding of the 5000, in John chapter 6, to teach the powerful truth about God's plan of salvation for mankind, to clarify His heavenly origin and Messianic claim, to correct some flawed beliefs that had developed in Israel, and to announce some very precious promises for all who would believe in Him.

Jesus graciously fed a great multitude of hungry people with 5 small barley loaves and 2 tiny fishes, but the truth He wanted them to know was far deeper. He was showing us that earthly food will satisfy our physical needs and our earthly body temporarily, but He had come down to earth from heaven to provide us with heavenly food that would satiate our spiritual needs and our eternal souls, forever: "I am the Living Bread that came down out of heaven," He explained, "if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh."

Jesus first compared Himself to bread by calling Himself the Living Bread, but continued by making the astonishing statement that He came down to earth from heaven. He not only provided that hungry crowd with bread to satisfy their bodily needs, but He made it crystal clear that HE is the spiritual nourishment from God Almighty they needed, and the heavenly bread that will satisfy their spiritual needs. And He went further, saying that if anyone eats of this bread, if anyone feeds on HIM in their heart by faith as their spiritual food, he will live eternally.

However, the crowd were spiritually myopic and could only compare the food that Jesus provided with the manna the Israelites ate in the wilderness in Moses' day. The Israelites in the wilderness had a daily meal for 40 years, but Jesus had only supplied a single meal. By comparison, the people considered the miracle of the bread and fish to be inferior to the manna in Moses' day.

In this passage, Jesus already knew that He would be rejected by Israel as prophesied in Scripture, and He was starting to hint at the coming Cross of Calvary, where He would offer His life as the ransom price for the sin of the world. He was starting to signal the truth of God's Word, that He was to be the sacrificial offering, whose broken body and shed blood is the only spiritual food and drink that fallen man can appropriate to gain life eternal, for there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved. He wanted His listeners to understand that HE was God's divine gift to humanity and that only through believing in Him would they find eternal satisfaction.

His sacrificial death on the Cross paid the price for our sins. Believing in Him is the food our soul requires to live forever. The Bread of God that came down from heaven is the Lord Jesus Christ. Surely this truth should rejoice our soul through time and into eternity and should prompt us to tell forth this truth to the next generation and all who will listen?

Dear Lord, thank You for Your amazing love and grace that You have bestowed on me. Thank You for being the Living Bread which came down from heaven. Your love and grace is sustaining me and giving me life. Help me to take Your words to heart and to truly take them within my innermost being. As I take in Your Bread of Life, I will live forever. May I never forget the sacrifice You have made for me, that I may have eternal life. I am forever grateful for Your mercy and love. In Jesus' name.
AMEN.

Celebrating martyrs of UGANDA

The Martyrs of Uganda were a group of 45 young Christian converts—22 Catholics and 23 Anglicans—who were killed between 1885 and 1887 in the Kingdom of Buganda, present-day Uganda. They were executed on the orders of King Mwanga II for their refusal to renounce Christianity and for resisting immoral practices at the royal court.
★The martyrs were mostly young men, some serving as pages at the king's court.

★Many were burned alive at Namugongo, the site of their ex*****on.

★Their courage and witness inspired the rapid spread of Christianity across Uganda and beyond.

★The Catholic Martyrs were canonized as saints by Pope Paul VI in 1964.

★June 3rd is celebrated as Uganda Martyrs Day, attracting millions of pilgrims to Namugongo each year.

The Martyrs of Uganda are remembered for their unwavering faith, bravery, and deep commitment to Christian values, even in the face of death.

Good Morning beloved family and friends.
THE HOLY WORD TODAY

✝️ The Martyrs of Uganda, 1886

Hebrews 11:32-40
Psalm 119:161-168
John 15:18-22

Jesus said to his disciples: "If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me." If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
— JOHN 15:18-22

How can we be hated by this world? We would be hated by this world when we don’t conform to its many dictates. For example, when we avoid the company of those people who do no good. What they always do is to satisfy their cravings for this world even if it makes them sin. They would slowly label us as killjoy or somebody who doesn’t belong to this world. If this is the case then by all means let us not be afraid to be hated by this world.

What does this world offer us? Happiness, riches, sin, sickness and after which it offers us death. And after death or even while we are sick this world will not anymore matter to us what will matter now is our faith and love for Jesus. What if we have no faith, we don’t love Jesus and we perpetually commit sin while we are in this world?
Jesus discourse with HIS disciples is an eye opener for all of us, for it gives us insights about the mind of Jesus. HIS mind is not conformed to this world as how the mindset of many of us are conditioned to this world.

Jesus' teachings are always contradicting the dictates of this world and this is quite hard to accept for many of us. Why? For the reason that we are starting to love this world more than we love Jesus. And this is very dangerous, what will happen to us if we love this world more than we love Jesus? What will happen to us if our joy and happiness are all based in this world?
We walk on this world barren and empty.
