SUNDAY SERVICE – 07 JUNE 2026
Month of the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
Minister: Nolwazi Langa
Topic: When the Holy Spirit Says No
Scripture Reading: Acts 16:1–10
Many believers love hearing God say “YES”, but struggle when God says “NO,” “WAIT,” or “NOT YET.” In this scripture, Paul and his team desired to preach in certain cities, but the Holy Spirit stopped them. God closed doors they wanted opened and redirected them to Macedonia through a vision.
This teaches us something powerful: God’s “No” is never meant to destroy us, but to direct us. Sometimes what feels like disappointment is actually divine direction, protection, and preparation for something greater.
Important Points We Are Learning from the Scripture
1. The Holy Spirit Gives Divine Direction
(Acts 16:6)
Paul and his team had plans, but the Holy Spirit redirected them.
Lesson:
- Not every good opportunity is God’s opportunity.
- We must allow the Holy Spirit to guide our decisions.
- God’s direction is always better than our plans.
Key Point:
A closed door is not rejection—it may be divine redirection.
2. God’s “No” Is for Protection
(Acts 16:6–7)
The Holy Spirit prevented Paul from entering certain cities.
Lesson:
- Sometimes God says no to protect us from wrong places, wrong timing, or wrong assignments.
- God sees danger and disappointment before we do.
Key Point:
What God closes, no man should force open.
3. Obedience to the Holy Spirit Matters
Paul obeyed even when he did not fully understand.
Lesson:
- Obedience is proof of spiritual maturity.
- We must trust God even when His answer is not what we expected.
Key Point:
Delayed obedience is still disobedience.
4. God’s “No” Makes Room for a Greater Purpose
(Acts 16:9)
After God said no, Paul received a vision of Macedonia.
Lesson:
- God never closes one door without purpose.
- Sometimes God redirects us because someone needs our help elsewhere.
Key Point:
Behind God’s “No” is a greater assignment.
5. Spiritual Sensitivity Is Important
Paul recognized the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Lesson:
- We must pray and stay spiritually sensitive to hear God clearly.
- Not every opportunity is from God.
Key Point:
The Holy Spirit speaks, but we must be willing to listen.

Topic: Do We Have a Spirit of Discernment?
Scripture Reading: Acts 16:16–18
In this scripture, Paul encountered a slave girl possessed by a spirit of divination. Although she spoke words that sounded true, Paul discerned that the spirit behind her words was not from God. Through the power and discernment of the Holy Spirit, Paul commanded the evil spirit to leave her.
This teaches us that as believers, we must not only hear and see naturally, but also spiritually. In these last days, discernment is important because not everything that appears good or sounds spiritual comes from God.
Important Points We Are Learning from the Scripture
1. Discernment Helps Us Recognize Wrong Spirits
(Acts 16:16–18)
The slave girl spoke truth, but Paul discerned the spirit behind her words.
Lesson:
- Not everything that sounds spiritual comes from God.
- We need spiritual discernment to know what is truly from God.
Key Point:
Discernment helps us see beyond appearances.
2. The Holy Spirit Gives Spiritual Discernment
Paul recognized the spirit of divination through the Holy Spirit.
Lesson:
- Discernment comes through prayer and closeness to God.
- The Holy Spirit reveals hidden things.
Key Point:
You cannot discern spiritually if you are weak spiritually.
3. Believers Have Authority Through Jesus Christ
(Acts 16:18)
Paul commanded the spirit to leave in the name of Jesus.
Lesson:
- We have authority over darkness through Jesus Christ.
- The name of Jesus carries power.
Key Point:
What you discern, you must also confront through prayer and faith.
4. Spiritual Discernment Protects the Church
Paul did not ignore the situation.
Lesson:
- Discernment protects us from deception.
- The church must pray for spiritual eyes and wisdom.
Key Point:
Without discernment, people can be easily deceived.
5. We Must Pray for the Spirit of Discernment
Lesson:
- We need discernment in friendships, relationships, decisions, and ministry.
- Discernment helps us avoid spiritual traps.
Key Point:
A discerning believer walks in wisdom and protection.
