Sermon title: from the Gate to God's Glory.
Beloved, life often places us at gates—points of transition between limitation and liberation. The lame man in Acts 3 was carried daily to the Beautiful Gate. He was close to breakthrough but never inside. Many of us, our families, and our communities live at such gates: gates of opportunity, gates of healing, gates of destiny.
But the good news is this: Jesus Christ does not leave us at the gate. He sends people, He sends power, and He sends provision to take us *in*. Today, let us look at three types of people around us, and how God uses this story to teach us about transformation.
1️⃣ Those Who Take You to the Gate but Never In
- *“They laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful…”* (Acts 3:2)
- These are the carriers. They brought him close but never inside.
- In life, some people will help you reach proximity but not possession. They will take you near blessing but not into breakthrough.
- **Wisdom:** Proximity without entry is frustration. Being “almost there” is not God’s plan.
- **Application for the Church:** We must not be content with carrying people to the gate of salvation. We must disciple them, nurture them, and walk them in.
- **Application for the Community:** Don’t just give people access to opportunities—equip them to enter. Education, mentorship, and empowerment are the keys.
2️⃣ Those Who Give You Alms but Keep You at the Gate
- *“…to ask alms of them that entered into the temple.”* (Acts 3:2)
- These are the maintainers. They gave coins but never change. They were content with him being a beggar.
- **Wisdom:** Some people will support your survival but not your success. They prefer you dependent, not delivered.
- **Scripture:** *“The borrower is servant to the lender.”* (Proverbs 22:7)
- **Application for the Church:** We must not only give handouts but create transformation. True ministry is not charity alone—it is empowerment.
- **Application for the Community:** Development must go beyond aid. We must build systems that lift people from dependency to dignity.
3️⃣ Those Who Take You In and Give You More Than You Deserve
- *“Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee…”* (Acts 3:6)
- Peter and John gave him healing, not coins. They lifted him up, and he walked into the temple, praising God.
- **Wisdom:** God sends destiny helpers who don’t just give resources but release power. They don’t leave you at the gate—they take you in.
- **Scripture:** *“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think…”* (Ephesians 3:20)
- **Application for the Church:** Be Peters and Johns in your generation. Offer Christ, not just coins. Lift others into destiny.
- **Application for the Community:** True leaders don’t just maintain—they transform. They don’t just give alms—they give empowerment, vision, and hope.
🌿 Wisdom Points
- The Gate Represents Transition: Many live at the gate of destiny but never enter.
- The Power of Focus: Peter said, “Look on us.”* Breakthrough begins when you shift your gaze from men to Christ.
- The Hand of Lifting: Peter “took him by the right hand.”Sometimes destiny requires someone to pull you up, not just pray for you.
- The Response of Praise: The man leaped and praised God. True breakthrough produces worship, not pride.
- The Witness of Transformation: The crowd saw and marveled. Your testimony is not just for you—it’s for others to believe.
🔑 Conclusion
Beloved, everyone has gate moments. Some will carry you there, some will keep you there, but God will send those who lift you in. The greatest of all is Jesus Christ. He doesn’t just give alms—He gives life. He doesn’t just leave you at the gate—He takes you into glory.
Let us be a church that lifts people in. Let us be a community that empowers transformation. Let us be families that don’t just survive but thrive. And let us remember: when Christ enters, the lame walk, the broken rise, and the gates become doors of glory
