With great sadness, we mourn the loss of our dear friend, mentor, and pillar of the Hellenic community, Uncle Bazil Michaledes, who passed away at the age of 95. A generous supporter of the Greek church, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. His iconic business, MCC Spar, was a staple in Klerksdorp and held a special place in many hearts, including my father's, who had his first job there. Uncle Bazil's dedication to his community and his faith was inspiring, and he will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved Sons and their wives and grandchildren, who will deeply feel his absence. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. As he is called to heaven, we take comfort in the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy lord" (Matthew 25:21). May his family find strength and comfort in the love and support of those around them. Rest in peace, Uncle Bazil. Your impact on our lives will never be forgotten.

Today the Hellenic community of Klerksdorp is in mourning. We have lost a mighty man, so suddenly. A man who was a pillar of the community, a driving force. A man who gave generously and lived a life of service, without any expectation of acknowledgement or glory. A man of sharp wit, gregarious and jovial. A man whose faith was at the centre of his life. A man I was proud and honoured to call my friend. Thank you Mike, for who you were. Thank you for everything you did for this community, as chairman, as psalti, as friend. Your memory will be eternal. Our prayers are with Xanthoula, Mario, Andreas and family, Costa and family, Noni and family. May God give you strength and courage. Mihalaki Demetriou will be sorely missed.
