To the Klerksdorp Muslim Jamaat and Broader Sunni Community

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

It is with immense disappointment and sorrow that we address this message to the Klerksdorp Muslim Jamaat and the committee of Masjid Us-Salaam in Manzilpark. Our family’s heartfelt request to hold the blessed Nikah of our daughter and sister at the Masjid was inexplicably denied, without any valid reason being provided. This decision has not only caused us profound hurt but has also left us questioning the principles upon which such a refusal was based.

The Masjid is not the property of any individual, committee, or group. It is the House of Allah Almighty—Baytullah—and it belongs to Him alone. Allah (SWT) clearly states in the Holy Quran:
"And [He revealed] that the Masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke anyone with Allah." (Surah Al-Jinn, 72:18)

No person, no committee, and no organization has the right to bar a believer from accessing the House of Allah or performing a legitimate Islamic act therein. A Masjid is a sanctuary for all Muslims, regardless of their affiliations, provided their practices are rooted in the Shariah and Sunnah. To refuse permission for a Sunni Nikah—a fundamental part of our Deen—contradicts the very essence of what a Masjid represents.

The Nikah is a sacred institution, a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and a cause for unity and celebration in the community. By denying us the right to perform this act in the Masjid, the committee has caused unnecessary distress and disunity. We are left to ask: On what grounds was this refusal made? Who has granted the authority to restrict the use of Allah’s House for lawful and noble acts?

We urge the committee to reflect deeply on the heavy responsibility they bear as custodians of this sacred space. Allah has entrusted you with this role to serve the community with justice, fairness, and humility—not to impose unnecessary restrictions or create divisions. A refusal without valid reasoning undermines the trust and harmony within the Ummah.

Let us remind ourselves of the warning from Allah (SWT) in the Quran:
"And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction? It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment." (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:114)

The refusal to allow a Nikah in a Masjid raises serious concerns about inclusivity and the unity of our community. As Sunni Muslims adhering to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, we find it unacceptable to be excluded from performing a lawful act in a place that belongs to Allah alone.

We respectfully request the committee to provide a transparent explanation for their decision. Silence or evasion will only deepen the sense of injustice and division caused by this incident. We further urge you to uphold the principles of Islam by ensuring that the Masjid remains a space for all believers to seek Allah’s blessings without fear of prejudice or exclusion.

May Allah guide us all to act with justice, compassion, and wisdom in all matters. We pray for a resolution that restores the unity and trust within our community, and that all actions are taken solely for the pleasure of Allah Almighty.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan
