LIVING WATER - SEASON OF CREATION 2026 - RESOURCES

From the Introduction to this year's theme for the Season:

The Global Ecumenical Theme for the Season of Creation 2026 , "Living Water," is based on Ezekiel 47:9,12, where water flowing from God's Temple transforms barren land into a place of abundant life: "Where the river flows everything will live."

This vision offers a message of hope, healing, and ecological
renewal. Water flowing from God's presence restores ecosystems, nourishes biodiversity, and symbolizes God's desire for the flourishing of all creation.

This year’s symbol shows a small stream flowing from the Temple which grows into a mighty river, bringing life wherever it goes and inviting believers to enter the water and become participants in God's work of healing the world.

ARCHBISHOP THABO MAKGOBA DELIVERS LAST CHARGE TO DIOCESE OF CAPE TOWN SYNOD

In the Charge, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba addressed South Africa's migrant crisis, and paid tribute to his wife, Mrs Lungi Makgoba, "for the patient support and sustenance she provides me."

On the migrant crisis, he said: "The urgent questions we face are: what does justice look like for South Africans in poor communities who can’t find decent jobs, and who fear that migrants willing to work for low wages are stealing their opportunities? What does justice look like for migrants who are fleeing conflict zones in which their very lives are at risk, or whose governments are so corrupt that they have virtually collapsed their countries' economies? What would it look like to restore the dignity of migrants as those who, just like us, are made in the image of God? ...

"One of the reasons migrants are often received with such hostility is their capacity to survive and even flourish in conditions which local people struggle to overcome. That should be no surprise: across the world, migrants are often the most innovative and creative people their countries produce; how else would they have found ways to flee their countries, travel halfway across a continent, and survive in foreign, often hostile environments?

"For us, this raises a challenging question: Are there not ways, even at parish level, in which we can encourage our communities to harness both the skills of migrants and the urgent clamour of our people for jobs to create win-win scenarios for both?"
