*Rāmāyaṇ Aranya Kãnd - 129.03 - 13112025* by Bhasmank Mehta

Devotion is the easiest way to cross maya. By holding on to God’s name, one can defeat illusion. Don’t get trapped asking, “Who made Maya? Where did it come from?” Just throw it away — like how you’d throw away a snake that suddenly fell in your lap. You don’t stop to ask where it came from; you get rid of it ... immediately.

Similarly, if Maya troubles you, call upon God’s name and free yourself. Always remember: “I am a part of God.” When you were born, you weren’t anyone’s husband, wife, son, or father — these are all temporary identities.

Ram told Lakshman that Maya has two powers — Vidya (knowledge) and Avidya (ignorance).

Vidya makes scholars dance, and Avidya makes fools dance. Vidya never ends with words, and Avidya never ends with material creations. Ignorance keeps people building more houses, more things — but no one finds peace through that.

Kalabhairav Jayanti blessing
Om Bhairavaaya Namaha

Today is the auspicious day of Kalabhairav Jayanti is an annual Hindu festival that commemorates the divine manifestation of Lord Kalabhairava, a fierce and protective avatar of Lord Shiva. It is observed on the eighth day (Ashtami Tithi) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon phase) in the month of Margashirsha (as per the North Indian Purnimant calendar).

Significance and Rituals
Guardian of Time: Lord Kalabhairava is considered the "guardian of time" (Kala) and death. Worshipping him is believed to help devotees gain mastery over anger, ego, and fear.
Protection: Devotees offer prayers to seek protection from obstacles, negative energies, black magic, and enemies.
Worship: Rituals include observing fasts, performing special pujas (worship), and visiting Kalabhairava temples. Night-long vigils and chanting mantras like "Om Kalabhairavaya Namah" are also common practices.
Offerings: Traditional offerings include black sesame seeds, mustard oil, black flowers, and bel leaves. Feeding dogs, which are considered the vehicle (vahana) of Lord Kalabhairava, is also considered sacred on this day.
Spiritual Benefits: It is believed that observing the day with devotion helps to dispel negativity, remove past karmic blockages, and promote spiritual awakening and fearlessness.

In South Africa, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 26 August 2025. This is because Hindu festivals are calculated based on the tithi (lunar day), not just sunrise. For Ganesh Chaturthi, the Chaturthi Tithi begins at 10:24 AM on 26 August and ends at 12:14 PM on 27 August. Since the most important part of the celebration, the Ganapati Puja, must happen during Madhyahna (midday), the date is chosen so that the puja falls within the Chaturthi Tithi at the correct midday time locally in South Africa.
So, even though sunrise times are different around the world, the date is not based on sunrise alone. It is based on the lunar day (tithi) and the right time of day for the puja. That is why South Africans celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi on 26 August 2025
However, in a country like South Africa, where 26 August 2025 is not a public holiday, people who cannot perform the puja at midday can also do it in the evening of 26 August 2025. This ensures everyone can celebrate while still honouring the auspicious tithi and local timing.
