“He is risen…”

Greetings good people. Today, throughout the world, Christians are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This event, together with the crucifixion, is one of the greatest of our faith. I have already discussed some of the most important reasons for the crucifixion and death of Christ in my previous post. In this post, I will discuss the benefits of his resurrection. Please note that most of the insights for this post come from today’s sermon given at Gate of Life church by my pastor Jean Noel Gahie. (Please also note that all the scripture references are taken from the New King James version of the Bible).

The first conclusion we can draw from the resurrection is Jesus’ triumph over death. In Revelation 1:18 he says “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forever more. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death”. This means that Jesus triumphed over death. This point is crucial. Up until his resurrection the biggest obstacle ever encountered by any human being was death. No matter the power of persons, sooner or later, they would encounter death. Because Jesus is not dead but still alive, it means that he continues to rule creation and thus our very lives. This means that we serve a living God. The beauty of this victory is that by believing in him, we too can share in the same victory, which is one of the greatest blessings of humanity.

Romans 8:37 tells us “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” This declaration applies even more to Christ because he is the greatest conqueror, the first to conquer death.

The second consequence of the resurrection is our new identity. We can now be children of God.

The third consequence is that God gives us eternal life. In the Old Testament no one had eternal life, but by believing in Christ we now have eternal life as we read in John 6:47 : “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” This eternal life is a grace that no unbeliever has. It is the best life that any person can have, entailing guidance by and eternal communion with Jesus, and life within the context of his church. This eternal life is called the Zoe.

The fourth consequence is that we are justified by the resurrection. We read this in Romans 4:24-25 “but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.” The meaning of justification is that we are declared righteous by God. Righteousness means to be seen as morally right in the eyes of God. Of our own this is impossible but only achievable through faith in God. Hence the resurrection enables this justification.

The fifth reason Jesus rose was to confirm our redemption. Hebrews 9:12 “Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.” This means that Jesus paid for our freedom to the slavery of sin with his own blood.

All of this is simply amazing. We can now understand why the Bible says in 1: 16 “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.” Not only did just grant us the mercy of forgiveness for our sins and escape from the punishment of these sins which was hell, but he also grants us the free grace of being children of God, a new identity, eternal life as well as redemption. We did not deserve this in any way. One of the problems in modern Christianity is how cheaply people consider this grace that Jesus offers. I am the first to admit that I made that mistake in the past. I did not appreciate that it cost him his very life and he had to endure the crucifixion for it. Let us not make that mistake but make the most of it. This precious grace that he has given us must not be wasted in any way. As Peter so well wrote in 2 Peter 3:17-18: “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” God has granted us this grace and called us to grow in it. Let us be wise to do so.

“The glorious necessity of the cross” (Please note that all scripture references are taken from the New King James version of the Bible).

Greetings good people. Today, all over the world, we Christians are celebrating “Good Friday”. This is the celebration of the crucifixion of Jesus just over 2000 years ago. This is one of the most important events in our history. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” It through this death that Jesus gave his life for all humanity and saved all those who would later believe in him, including current believers like you and I. As John 3:16 correctly declares, the gift of Jesus’ life, and especially his crucifixion, saved all believers in Christ.

There are three reasons that the crucifixion was necessary: propitiation, reconciliation and redemption. Let us first look at Propitiation. 1 John 2:2 tells us “ And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” Propitiation means that because of the sin of man, God’s wrath was meant to be unleashed on every living human being. This meant eternal punishment in hell. Jesus’ sacrifice quelled this anger that should have befallen each of us. Instead, Jesus experienced the punishment for our sins which was the anger that God had due to all this sin. Hence Jesus did not suffer for a few hours on the cross, but in truth endured an eternity of suffering, the eternity of the wrath that God had rightfully reserved for every person on Earth.

Let us now look at reconciliation. 1 Peter 3:18 tells us: “ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,” Because of Adam’s sin in the garden, there was a break in the fellowship between man and God. Even in Old Testament times, before the incarnation of Jesus, there was a limit to the relationship between man and God. The crucifixion restored the fullness of the relationship between man and God. This was symbolised by the tearing of the veil, the temple curtain of the “holy of holies”, the most sacred part of the temple in the Old Testament in Israel, at the time of Christ’s death. This meant that from that time, every believer had direct access to the throne of God through Jesus Christ because of his crucifixion.

The third element is the redemption. Colossians 1:13-14 says “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” To redeem is to buy back. Humanity was lost to sin, but Jesus paid the debt we owed to God, purchasing the sum of mankind with his blood. In Genesis, we read that Abel was murdered by Cain and that his “blood of Abel speaks”. Well, Hebrews 12:24 reveals that the blood of Jesus still speaks and due to the crucifixion, it speaks better than the blood of Abel because it speaks of the redemption of all humanity that it effected. Hence the crucifixion saved us all who believe from the penalty and punishment of hell.

As a result of the crucifixion, the cross becomes the beginning of the life of the Christian. It is because of Jesus’ death that every Christian who believes has eternal life. The crucifixion was the greatest serenade in history. The church is called the bride of Christ. In Zephaniah 3:17 we are told “…He will rejoice over you with singing.”, meaning that Jesus will sing for his people. The crucifixion was Jesus’ serenade to mankind, his call to become part of his bride.

Another blessing of the cross is that because of this, we now have eternal life. This means that beyond just escaping hell, we have entry into divine destiny. God has a divine purpose for each of us to fulfil. In John 19:30 we read that Jesus’ last words on were “It is finished” because in dying, in addition to all the works he accomplished before the cross, he fulfilled his purpose on earth. Jesus paid for all our lives with his, hence we too must seek him as our guide in our lives so that when our existence comes to an end, we too can have fully accomplished our God ordained purposes.
We now come to a very important topic: persecution. Of the revelations of Christianity is the necessity for persecution in the life of every believer. This is part of the suffering that we all must experience. The bible reveals that this persecution enables us to share in the suffering of Jesus on the cross. We read this in Philippians 1:29 “For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake”.The Bible further teaches that if we want to share in the resurrection blessing of Christ, we must first share in his suffering, hence endure the pain of persecution. We read this in Romans 8:17 “ and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Many people, make the initial mistake that life in Christ only means blessing but the mature will clearly learn that it includes persecution and suffering. However, this is not negative, because persecution is suffering for Jesus by sharing his pain on the cross which is one of the greatest blessings.

We live in a world filled with increasing darkness. The beauty of Christianity is that we can receive eternal life form Christ, the best possible life filled with his light, because he is light, as is revealed in John 1:4 and thus have him as our daily guide, through the indwelling presence of his Holy Spirit. The Bible reveals that Christianity is a life of love. Love is the meaning of life. Hence the call of Jesus for every believer to obey the two love commandments that sum up the Bible in Matthew 22:37. Ephesians 5:16 tells us: “ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” When we accept this call to live in this loving manner, we fulfil our lives in Christ and obey this scripture because we make the wise choice. Exodus 15:2 tells us that: “The Lord is my strength and my song…”. This means that since Christ is also life, as we read in John 1:4, that the life of Christ is the greatest harmony. Hence by obeying the call to live by loving, we will live the Christ ordained lives that become great harmonies.

Now that the necessity and benefits of the crucifixion has been revealed, the challenge to each of us who believe is to continue to do this daily for the rest of our lives. For those of you who don’t , this is a call to become a believer. Don’t delay, do it today, do it now.

The Great Conversation and the Great Unification and Perfection.

This is the second of a two part series. Please refer to my page for the first part (Please note that all scripture references are taken from the New King James translation of the Bible).

Doing all five of these is not an easy task and requires much effort. However it is necessary because the unity of the church is at stake. Since God is with us, we can rely on his help to implementing these five solutions. Additionally to fulfil this requires conversation with God. This is the reason He said in Isaiah 1:18 “…Come let us reason together…”. God is available to talk to us and guide us. This is one of the main reasons he has been revealing himself to mankind since the beginning of humanity. It is from our intimacy and personal relationship with him that he can lead us into agreement with him, and even beyond when we disagree, to reconciliation. This is important because once the church becomes a united body, it will acquire the power of holy synergy that will enable it to fulfil its collective destiny. One of the things that it will be able to fulfil then is : The Great Commission. The Great Commission is the Call that Jesus made to preach his gospel, his good news and message of salvation of the Word to all mankind. This fulfilment of The Great Commission will then lead to the return of the Messiah: Jesus Christ.

The beauty of this era is that once we resolve our disagreements with each other, and even while we do, we can embark on the conversation between different parts of the global church and thus coordinate a global move of the church. This means that Isaiah 1:18 is no longer is just a reality between us and God, but a potent truth for the global church. Hence “The Great Conversation” will be the catalyst to the great unification and perfection of the church prophesies in Ephesians 5:25-27 “ Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”

God revealed to me that this “Great Conversation” has begun through the numerous local revivals as well as recent local and global gatherings of the church in the past years and months. In addition, over social media, we see numerous influential voices contributing to this “Great Conversation” that will lead to the “Great Unification and perfection of the church". YouTube channels such as Trackstarz, The CBN Network, TBN: The Trinity Broadcasting Network, “What do you meme?”, “Daily Dose of wisdom” and many others. God is raising up an army of believers, no longer divided but increasingly united and contributing to this “Great conversation”. As Philippians 1:16 confirms: “He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ”. God has begun this work in the church and will complete it. The question to you is: “Will you join him?” Only you can decide. Choose wisely.

The Great Conversation and the Great Unification and Perfection. This is the first of a two part series. (Please note that all scripture references are taken from the New King James translation of the Bible).

Greetings good people. The Lord Jesus revealed something very powerful this week. It is true that as humanity, we have now entered the 4th industrial revolution. Yet, there is a new era that we have entered that many people have encountered but none has explicitly and specifically mentioned: “The era of The Great Conversation”. This is because for the first time in history it is possible and often easy for any two or more people, no matter the geographical separation between them to converse. This era has a great consequence for the body of Christ, the church, that God has revealed to me to be “The Great Conversation”. I will fully discuss this topic in an upcoming podcast that I have already prepared. However I will use this post to give a summary of this revelation.

As teenagers and even adults, as I am sure that many of you reading this post are, it is evident that the world is divided along many lines: political, racial, classes and even religious. The sad truth is that this division extends to the church, the body of Christ. Five of the main reasons for this division are:
1) The attacks of the enemy satan and his kingdom on the church
2) The misunderstanding of the Bible
3) The misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit
4) Disagreements with God.
5) Disagreements between members of the church.
What God has revealed to me is that if we agree on the usage of the same Bible, then the revelation of this text by the Holy Spirit will be the same and thus unite us. Furthermore, Christianity is based on the two love commandments:
a) You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
b) You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’
Colossians 3:14 in the Bible tells us “But above all put on love, which is the bond of perfection”. Hence the conclusion that we can draw from these scriptures is that the true practice of love can only lead to unity, and thus this should be what we see in the church because its members are meant to live both these commandments and thus fulfil Colossians 3:14. This is the reason Jesus says in John 17:11 :” Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.” This scripture is a prayer that Christ made before his crucifixion, emphasising the importance of the unity of the church.

To remedy the four problems that cause division in the church we must do the following:
1) to overcome satan we must engage in spiritual warfare.
2) To correct the misunderstanding of the Bible we must make use of the right Bible and be taught by true teachers as well ensure we are guided by the Holy Spirit who interprets the Bible for us.
3) We must test the spirit that guides us to make sure that it is the Holy Spirit.
4) When we have satisfied the three points above, we must completely surrender to God. This also means understanding that even when we cannot fully comprehend his decisions, he can be trusted because He is the God of truth and love. Hence even when he acts in a way that seems difficult to accept, we must have the maturity to surrender to him. Even though we may not have peace in the short term, the benefit of surrender to his guidance will always be greater and long-term peace and success.
5) Since God is our Father, as much as is possible He will lead us to reconciliation between his children because God wants unity. Hence, disagreements and division between members are often signs that we refuse or reject his guidance because he will not give us a divisive message.

The saviour in the mirror: Part 2 of 2 (Please find the first part of this post on my page. Also note that the scripture references are taken from the New King James Bible).

We admire great people like King David and other great men of faith as well as incredible leaders such as Nelson Mandela. The truth is before they become well known as men of faith, they first had to make the choice to respond to their calling. They had to step up. In the same manner, God is asking us a church, his people, to step up and answer their calling. The bible promises in Daniel 11:32 that those who know their God will do exploits. This means that through our knowledge of God, our intervention in this world will be exploits, meaning, having a great impact. You too can have this impact. You too can make a difference. Some of you are the future leaders who will have national and even international impact like the great men just mentioned. But many of you will miss this opportunity if you refuse and deny the calling of God. The calling now is: “look in the mirror”.

Many people do not realise that on judgment day, God will not only judge us for our personal lives, but also for our collective ones. Within the context of this conversation, I am talking about the judgment for the collective calling of help we were meant to give to others but did not because we refused to obey God and to “look at the saviour in the mirror”.

Imagine a world in which all Christians obey God and serve each other and all humanity. How much more empowered and beautiful would the world and the church be? How much more would you benefit personally?

The truth is that as we already see, the majority will not do this and thus miss out on the fulfilment of destiny. Do not make this mistake: lives, including yours, are at stake. The bible says in John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” This means that we need to show our love for the suffering in this world. If we cannot do this materially, we all can pray. The role of prayer must not be underestimated. Prayers can radically change circumstances. Distance is not a barrier in prayer. So, pray for the afflicted because they need more than pity, they need your spiritual and possibly material support.

To conclude: “look in the mirror”. God will do his part, but we too have our part to play. When we play the role of “the saviour in the mirror”, we will positively impact the world, and it will experience a radical change. This truth is evident in the mature church of Christ because mature Christians know and live this truth daily. Let us become mature in this manner.

The saviour in the mirror part 1 of 2.
(Please note that the scripture reference is taken from the New King James bible). This is a two-part message. I will post the second part next week.

Over the past years and still now, there has been much evil perpetrated against different groups of people around the world. I am originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo. As some of you are already aware, there has been an ongoing conflict in the Northeast of this country for more than two decades because of the great amount of precious mineral resources in the region. Millions of people have been killed and affected, and the country is suffering in every way because of this conflict, including socially and economically.

But the Congo is not the only country where evil, conflict and suffering are happening. As I write these words, in Iran, it has been reported that 60,000 to 80,000 people have been killed by the ruling regime in the recent uprising against it. 10,000 people were blinded and 350,000 wounded.

Beyond the suffering in Iran, persecution against Christians is rising throughout the world. Nigeria is one of the hotspots. It has been reported that 72% of all Christians martyred, or killed for their faith, happened in Nigeria last year. I just watched a CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) report of another recent massacre of 162 Christians in this same country.

We have been and continue to live in times of intense suffering for many people in the world. It is very easy to ignore all this pain because you have the impression that it does not directly affect you. The greater reason is that we should support people who are suffering because human beings are ideally meant to be loving and thus caring. This is the main reason for supporting those who are suffering. Also, as diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder for the past two decades, God has taught me the value of empathy. I have learned that sooner or later, everyone suffers greatly and would like to receive empathy. But what I have also learned is that you can only expect to receive mercy and empathy if you yourself have extended empathy. Of course, the greatest and perfect help only comes from God, but as my good friend pastor Serge Kabuya from Rhema Church in Johannesburg taught me many years ago: “God works through people”. I prayed to God in the past two weeks regarding the situation in the world including Iran. His response surprised me he asked me:“ look in the mirror”. He told me that he can and will intervene, but a great part of his intervention in the world will come from the completion of the work that he has asked each of us to do. This is the reason that in response to all the evil that is happening, God not only wants us to await his intervention, but also play a role in this intervention by completing the work he has assigned us to. I can testify that God has already given me the wisdom, resources and abilities to accomplish what he has asked me to. The same is true of every mandated Christian. As one of my former pastors taught me: “God does not give a vision without provision”. When God calls you to complete a task or many, he will equip you. God equips the called, you just need to agree to obey his calling. If we are lacking in wisdom, James 1: 5 declares:" If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to him". Hence, we should ask and God will give us that wisdom. These are some of the benefits of being Christians and thus children of God. As the Holy Spirit reminded me today and I read many years ago when I was about seven or eight years old: “Do not ask God to do your work but ask him to bless you to complete it”.

Hence in this time of increasing terror and evil, one of the greatest saviours we need to look at is “the one in the mirror”. I know that I have failed God and not fully obeyed him. I now realise that I need to change this. If you are obeying God, good, continue. Else, like me, I invite you to repent and go full throttle for him. As the esteemed teacher Joyce Meyer reminds us: we need to “pray and obey”. Hence a great part of the salvation that the world is waiting for is “staring at you in the mirror”. You are that salvation. God wants to work through you to save not only yourself but others he sends you to serve.

LOVE: THE FOUNDATIONAL RESOLUTION

Happy new year to you. At the beginning of each year, people often make resolutions. These are meant to help them reach their goals and even fulfill their destinies. I want to reveal the pursuit of love as the foundational resolution that you should make for this year within the context of Christianity through surrender to Jesus Christ. (Please note that all scripture is taken from the New King James version).

In the bible, in 1 John 4:16, it is revealed that: “God is love”. The bible also reveals that God created the universe including you. For this reason, because God is love, and he created you, he has a destiny planned for you that he wants to reveal to you. This is the reason the bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Matthew 6:33 adds “ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” This means that you should first seek God, who is love, in all things. When you do, he will reveal the good plans that he has for you and lead you to experience them.

What you should know is that Christianity is a journey that is “Cross centred”, “Bible based”, and “Love aimed”. Firstly, that means that it begins at the cross. God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for you so that you may not perish in hell but receive eternal life. Eternal life is the life only God can give, the best and most glorious life. In the bible, John 17:3 reveals that this life means knowing God the Father through his son Jesus Christ. God wants to give you this life because he is love and loves you. Hence, to fulfil Matthew 6:33 and seek God means knowing this love. Love is not an emotion: it is God. God reveals himself in the bible and wants to make this knowledge known to you so that you enter your destiny. This is the reason the Apostle Paul, one of the greatest ancient Christian leaders, wrote in the bible in 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” This means having a personal relationship with God through his Holy Spirit, who will teach you and reveal his love as written in the bible. The two love commandments in the bible are found in Matthew 22:37-39: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” These are the commandments that God teaches us to obey through the bible.

It must be said that we come to know Jesus more by direct Holy Spirit revelation through the bible than second hand explanation. This direct revelation of Jesus is God’s will for you. God wants an intimate and personal relationship with you. He wants to be your father and beyond even your best friend. Intimacy with God as has been revealed by the well-known preacher T.D. Jakes means “into me see”. God wants you to see into him. In the bible, Romans 12:2 tells us that mastering the bible makes us the perfect will of God to be known to us. This means that once you know this perfect will and obey it, it will always lead you to success. To love God is to obey Him. Once you have had the revelation of his person, hence this love, you will know how to obey him and be in position to receive his blessing beginning with his spiritual revelation. Once this spiritual revelation of God’s love has matured in you, it will bear the fruit of all the other blessings, including the material blessings you need. I am currently experiencing this truth in my life in this season. God is revealing himself to me daily and providing materially. This revelation of God is crucial because we live in a time of great temptations and distractions so that those who don’t know God are in the dark and getting lost increasingly faster.

If you don’t have a relationship with Christ, start one today. Don’t delay. It will make all the difference. He has done this in my life and that of countless others. The bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that “God makes everything beautiful in its time”. One of the things he wants to make beautiful is your life through a personal relationship with him. God is practical. Through his Holy Spirit, he will guide you daily and give you solutions to your problems. God wants to be good to you. As I keep finding out, he wants to amaze you with his love and fulfil Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us”. Of course, there will always be challenges that you will have to go through, but their purpose is not to harm you but rather to teach you to apply God’s bible and thus master his love and wisdom. Additionally, in God you are no longer alone. You have the Holy Spirit, the bible, his church family, which is now yours, and all the worldly resources he makes available to you.

It is time to come back to the simplicity of the enlightened life that is only available through God and his son Jesus Christ. This will enable you to always succeed in a dark world that is increasingly misleading and unnecessarily complex. These are all the reasons love should be your foundational resolution this year.
