💖Have a blessed Shavuot and Pentecost.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Starting tonight, Thursday 21 May, Jewish people worldwide will celebrate Shavuot.
Shavuot means “Weeks” and concludes the seven-week period following Passover. For this reason, it is also known as the Feast of Weeks. It is one of the three pilgrimage festivals, alongside Pesach and Sukkot.
“Three times a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God at the place that He will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Booths” (Deuteronomy 16:16a).
Biblically, Shavuot is a harvest festival connected to the firstfruits of the wheat harvest. In Jewish tradition, it is associated with the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, as described in Exodus 19. This occurred seven weeks (50 days) after the Exodus from Egypt, marking the formation of the Israelites into the covenant people of God, called to belong to Him and walk in His ways.
Today, Shavuot is celebrated by reading the Torah, studying through the night, eating dairy foods (such as cheesecake), and reading the Book of Ruth.
Centuries later, on the day of Pentecost — the Greek name for Shavuot — the disciples were gathered in Jerusalem when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon them. Peter proclaimed the good news of Messiah, and about 3,000 people received the message that day. Through Yeshua, the promised New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31–33) had been inaugurated: God would write His law not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.
The traditional greeting for Shavuot is:
“Chag Shavuot Sameach!”
(pronounced khag shah-voo-OAT sah-MAY-akh), meaning “Happy Shavuot!”
Below is a greeting that you may share with your Jewish friends.
