1st Sunday of Lent

Gospel: Matthew 4: 1 – 11
Theme: temptation

We began the season of lent, as we began it on Ash Wednesday
Everybody in an important mission in life you will be tempted. In the first reading its combined. There are three possible causes of temptation that the devil uses to tempt us, which are:
o Hunger
He twist the commandment of God (it was not given to Eve but to Adam)
The last of the flesh, that’s how devil enters. The church gives us this reading simply to guide us and prepare us. Temptation is to those that begins to follow and worship the Lord.

o Eyes
Be aware where the eyes direct you to be careful cause through the eyes you can redirect yourself.

o Sin of Pride
Jesus did not need to prove to everyone that he is the son of God, at times we are full of ourselves.
How do we tackle this as we began the season of lent
β€’ Know the word of God (Scripture as the devil twisted it for their own self reason)
β€’ Know yourself (Seek to avoid situations that lead you through sin)
β€’ Prayer (find self-moment to pray, in silence and pray)
β€’ Fasting ( The sin that Adam and Eve sin through the food, same way devil tempted Jesus with food) we not saying food is sin or bad.
Amen

7th Sunday in Ordinary Time Feb 19, 2023

Homily
Matthew 6: 38 – 48
Theme: Love your enemy

We have been looking on Jesus teaching on the mountain in this past three weeks
God challenges people, you should be separated from others because you righteous and you have the law. Though the law has its limits.

There was conflict among as they journey hence God gave them the law, however while on promise land they were under Roman law, hence in today’s gospel Jesus tells them about the law in which He came not to abolish but to fulfill it. And this law came about to put:
1) Some justice (Crime vs punishment)
2) Its not enough to say I am sorry

Use the actions of the oppressor to show how evil is their system.
We are different not due to our language, colour… but due to our ways. As we strive to holiness and to love as our heavenly father is

Amen
