Growing in Trusting God
A sermon by Bishop Elliot Borchardt
"Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence."
~ Jeremiah 17:7 (NLT) ~
Learning to trust God is the first step to consistent growth. Trust was one of the key principles that Jesus Christ embraced, and it played a significant role in His impactful ministry.
Jesus Trusted the Father
Proverbs 29:25 reveals that trusting in God leads to divine protection. Jesus fully relied on the Father, and this trust was evident in His life and ministry.
God the Father was the source of Jesusβ success. He trusted God for growth, healing, and provision. Likewise, every Christian must learn to trust in God because those who trust in Him will experience peace of mind. We must bring our requests before God in prayer and trust that His peace will guard our hearts and minds.
Trusting Godβs Power and Timing
We trust God because He has the power to transform our situation. We must believe in His ability and competence, for what is impossible with man is possible with God. Growth in our faith leads us to a point where we trust God with the things we cannot change or control. We must patiently wait on Him to act in His perfect timing.
God beautifies everything in the fullness of time. Job trusted in the Lord, and despite his many trials, he declared, "My Redeemer lives!" (Job 19:25). In the end, God restored everything he had lost.
Trusting God in the Battle
We must trust God to fight our battles and allow Him to be our rock and defense. Daniel trusted in God despite the intimidation he faced. Even when he was thrown into the lionsβ den, God protected him. Similarly, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were delivered from the fiery furnace because they trusted in God and refused to bow before foreign gods.
Trusting God for the Future
We must dream big because godly visions bring hope for the future, and without such visions, people perish (Proverbs 29:18). When we patiently expect good things from the Lord, it strengthens our trust in Him.
God has promised that He will never leave nor forsake us. Therefore, we must commit ourselves fully to Him, laying down our lives in complete trust.
