Message Title: Love God Above All Else
God established mankind with purpose, authority, and identity from the very beginning of creation. “Humanity was never created to live beneath fear, confusion, bo***ge, or defeat - we were made to reflect God’s image and walk in dominion”, shared Prophet Issaka as he mounted the Pulpit. Yet many believers struggle to fully experience this reality because their hearts remain divided between God and the world. The foundation of victorious Christian living rests on one unshakeable truth: God must be loved above all else.
The book of Genesis reveals Heaven’s original intention for mankind. When God said in Genesis 1:26, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion”, He was depositing divine capacity, purpose, creativity, and authority into humanity. We were designed to carry His presence and reveal His glory on the earth. Through Christ, that design is made complete. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself declared in John 14:12 that those who believe in Him would do even greater works through the power of God operating in them. Every child of God carries heavenly potential, and Scripture affirms that God has crowned mankind with glory and honour, granting dominion over the works of His hands (Psalm 8:5–6). You are not insignificant in the eyes of God. You are a destiny carrier, and Heaven recognises the value of your life even when the world does not.
One of the painful realities of spiritual life is that the favour and love of God upon your life can attract opposition. The enemy despises the image of God within you. The devil and the fallen kingdom rebelled against God, and therefore they resist those who bear His likeness. Many times, spiritual battles are not simply about what you possess materially; they are about who you are spiritually. The enemy hates the grace upon your life, the destiny God has prepared for you, the mercy available to you through Christ, and the authority God has entrusted to you.
This is why believers sometimes encounter baseless hatred, betrayal, rejection, and opposition without obvious cause. Darkness fights against light. Yet we are encouraged not to fear, for God remains our protector and defender. When we truly love Him and remain in His presence, His covering surrounds us continually. It is written in Psalm 23:6 that. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Jesus spoke words that many find difficult to understand when He said in Luke 14:26 that, “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple”. Christ was not commanding believers to literally despise their families. Rather, He was teaching that our love and devotion to God must be so supreme that every other attachment becomes secondary in comparison. Anything loved above God eventually becomes an idol—whether relationships, money, career, reputation, pleasure, personal ambition, or fleshly desires. The first commandment in Exodus 20 establishes God’s demand for exclusive worship. The Lord will not share His throne in our hearts with another god. Whatever controls your heart controls your life. When believers place anything above God, they unintentionally separate themselves from His presence and open doors to spiritual weakness.
True discipleship demands surrender. Every believer has a cross to carry—a personal journey of obedience, sacrifice, endurance, and faithfulness. God originally instructed humanity to govern creation, yet today many people are ruled by the very things they were meant to control. Fear, lust, anger, addiction, materialism, and sin have overcome them. Why? Because the heart has drifted far from God. Dominion is not sustained through human strength; it is sustained through intimacy with God. When love for God grows cold, the flesh gains influence. But when believers passionately pursue God, they gain victory over the world and over sinful desires.
The Ten Commandments were not ordinary instructions—God Himself wrote them with His finger, demonstrating their divine importance and eternal authority. When Moses descended from the mountain and saw Israel’s rebellion, he broke the tablets in anger. This moment reveals something powerful: human disobedience damages what God intends to establish. His commandments were never meant to restrict us unfairly; they were given to preserve covenant relationship and protect mankind from destruction. Obedience keeps us aligned with God’s presence, protection, and blessing.
Many believers struggle with feelings of rejection, insignificance, or worthlessness. But Psalm 139:14 gives a beautiful picture of how God sees His children: “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God thinks about you continually. He watches over you, preserves you, and fights for you even when you cannot see it. Your existence is not accidental. Heaven has invested purpose into your life, and nothing the enemy does can change your value before God.
The greatest battle of the believer is ultimately a battle for affection: Who or what will occupy first place in your heart? When God becomes your highest love, your spiritual authority increases, your discernment sharpens, your life aligns with divine purpose, your protection becomes stronger, and your dominion is restored. The world constantly competes for our attention, loyalty, and worship, but only God can truly satisfy the soul. To love God above all else is not bo***ge—it is freedom. It is the pathway into purpose, power, peace, and eternal fellowship with Him. May every believer return wholeheartedly to the Lord, placing Him above every earthly attachment, and walking fully in the glory and dominion He intended from the beginning. Remain blessed!
