ALCHOL - The tool used to destroy our culture
Our ancestors for generations used alcohol for recreational purposes,it was understood to be a mood lifter,not allowed to be character altering.Indigenous beverages played a crucial role during traditional ceremonies,quantities were carefully managed as too much of anything can lead to undesired results
Rules of the time prohibited over indulgence,or persons under the rightful age from participating in alcohol consumption,when one was found to have stepped out of line due to over consumption,punishment was prescribed according to wrong doing
Arrival of oondlebe zikhanyilanga,introduced selling alcohol for profit,that was the beginning of all social ills and immorality acts we are witnessing today,due to alcohol abuse,we have learnt to accept certain acts as normal,many with great potential in life are reduced to addicts who lost their ways
We have many lying underground due to abuse of alcohol,colonisers understood that a drunk nation can never groom the next generation,instead they will drag them to the same pit of self-destruction. Our society has normalised abuse of alchol,no longer shocked by acts resulting from alcohol abuse
Alcohol consumption is not a problem,the problem is colonisers making sure we are drowning in alcohol while they are looting the land and its minerals meant to progress indigenous people. We have more shebeens than any other type of business in townships,rural areas that use to be the pride of isintu namasiko ethu has turned into semi-townships,characterised by shebeens
We can’t embrace amasiko when we worship alcohol,we are losing the wisdom of our ancestors as we can’t hear them any more because we are always intoxicated.Abantu are leading the charts with alchohol consumption,our traditional ceremonies are flooded with alcohol,it is the prime of the ceremony,such disgrace is growing unabated,we have lost our way,colonisers strategy to destroy us using alchohol has won
