“I, the preacher of this hour, beg to bear my witness that the worst days I have ever had have turned out to be my best days, and when God has seemed most cruel to me, he has then been most kind.” – CH Spurgeon

This Sunday we reach the last verses of 1 Peter and look at a grand summary of the book in a sermon titled “The Grace of God in Suffering”. The service begins with Psalm 34:1-10 as a Call to Worship which we follow with a Prayer of Invocation, calling on the Lord for His blessing.

We stand to sing Arise, My Soul, Arise, then go to the Old Testament to hear how Job considered the Lord, even while afflicted with heartache and agony. We respond to the reading by singing When All Thy Mercies, then learn from James on what the Christian attitude to trials should be in a reading of James 1:1-7.

The Pastoral Prayer leads us in prayer for others and one another before the Offering is taken while singing Blessed Jesus, at Thy Word. We then consider The Grace of God in Suffering in the final verses of 1 Peter.

We end by declaring our enduring faith even through ‘deep waters and fiery trials’ as we sing How Firm a Foundation, before we are fittingly dismissed by the sermon’s Benediction, 1 Peter 5:10-11.

U.F.O.s, Aliens and the Christian Worldview

By now, it is time for people to stop scoffing and making “little green men” jokes about the whole question of U.F.O.s, or Unidentified Anomalous/Aerial Phenomena, as they are now called. Declassified videos from the Pentagon, and statements from high-profile politicians like Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, and even Donald Trump means that this cannot […]

Transformed hearts should transform our choice of words. This Sunday evening, we consider the Bible’s “Lessons on Christian Speech”.

Psalm 5 is our Call to Worship, followed by a Prayer of Invocation, after which we sing Hymn 297 - Ye Servants of God, You Master Proclaim. Our Scripture Reading is from James, who tells us of the importance and power of our words. We respond to the reading with the Doxology, before praying for others and one another in a Prayer of Intercession.

We take the offering by considering ourselves in Hymn 76 – How Sad Our State, after which the Sermon teaches us from Ephesians 4 on Lessons on Christian Speech. After hearing about how we should please God in speech, we respond with Hymn 243 – Take My Life. 1 Peter 4:11 then dismisses us with a God-glorifying Benediction.

This Lord’s Day, we consider the exhortation to “Take Courage.”

We begin our service with a moment of reflection before standing for a musical call to worship by singing I Sing the Mighty Power of God.

Taking our seats, we pray and ask for the LORD’s blessing on our time together. Our first Scripture Reading is from Isaiah 43, where we read of Israel’s comfort in Jehovah their God.

Standing, we sing What God Ordains Is Always Good, reflecting on the comfort of God’s perfect wisdom in His sovereignty. We then turn to 2 Timothy 3 to read of the believer’s comfort in God’s faithfulness.

Thereafter, we together turn to the LORD in a prayer of consecration. Remaining seated, we sing If Thou But Trust in God to Guide Thee as the offering is taken.
We then turn to the preaching of God’s Word in the sermon titled “Take Courage.” In response, we sing Yet Not I, but Through Christ in Me.

God’s people are then dismissed with a blessing from 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17.
