Pope Leo has signed his second papal document since his election, an apostolic letter titled “Drawing New Maps of Hope,” commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s Gravissimum Educationis, the Declaration on Catholic Education. The letter acknowledges that we live in a complex, fragmented, and digitalized educational environment, and highlights the urgent need to renew the Church's commitment to promoting and providing a Christian, integral education. The Holy Father also designated St. John Henry Newman as the official co-patron saint of education, together with St. Thomas Aquinas. As millions of children still lack access to basic education, and as educational crises are caused by war, migration, inequality, and poverty, this work is more essential than ever:

In this month of October, dedicated to the Holy Rosary, we are invited to take up this most powerful prayer with renewed love and devotion. Each bead leads us deeper into the mysteries of Christ, each “Hail Mary” draws us closer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and every decade strengthens the soul against the darkness of the world.

The Rosary is our spiritual armor, our refuge, and our anchor of hope. Through it, heaven touches earth, and the Mother of God walks with us, guiding us to her Son.

The Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7. This feast commemorates the Holy League’s victory over the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Despite the strength of the Turkish forces, the Christians triumphed through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the power of praying the Most Holy Rosary.
