RESTRAINED EYES :
"But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him". - Luke 24:16 NKJV.
Two men traveling to a village called Emmaus, busy talking together concerning of the things that took place three days ago. Suddenly, Jesus Himself came along and joined them and began walking beside them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
We are still living in the day and age where people may gather together in the name of the LORD, whether talking about Him or worshipping Him. But, what people don't know is that Jesus do join them, but they always do not see or know Him because God keep them from recognizing Him.
It is not that God never want His people to recognize His Son. The problem is the church. Some members in the body of Christ doesn't want to know Him. They want to know Him as God who is far away from them. That is why they sing "from a distance, God is watching us".
Jesus came preaching "... The kingdom of heaven is at hand". - Matt 4:17. Meaning the kingdom is nearer than before, and if the kingdom is near, that simple means God is near. No longer far away from us.
Some members in the body of Christ still do not want to believe God is near, that is why God keep them from recognizing Jesus Christ. Their eyes are restrained from knowing Him. Jesus Christ aim is that His people should know Him, but like I said the problem is with the church.
Jesus had to rebuke the two guys, who were sad, and were hoping that it was Jesus Christ who was going to redeem Israel, and what is surprising is that, the same Jesus who was their hope for redemption, was reported by certain women of their company who arrived at the tomb early, that they did not find the body of Jesus. Instead of them being happy, they were astonished and sad. It was hard for them to believe Jesus was alive.
"O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe..." Jesus said. - Luke 24:25. Church of God also needs to be rebuked. How can they say "we believe in a risen Christ" and yet, failed to believe they can see Him or know Him?
Jesus is not dead, He rose from the death. He is alive. Church eyes is restrained from knowing Him because of slow of heart to believe. Jesus had to begin at Moses and all the Prophets. He had to explain (expound) what all the Scriptures said about Himself. - Luke 24:27 for them to understand.
Church of God also needs a lot of explanation, for the church to believe in knowing Him. Not to know Him as Jesus who is far away, but as Jesus Christ who lives in us. Without expounding what all the Scriptures says about Him, Church will remain in a state of not knowing Him, the restrained eyes.
