God’s house lay in ruins — not because His people hated him, but because they were busy building their own lives.

Through the prophet Haggai, God asks a piercing question:
“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your panelled houses, while this house lies in ruins?”

No scandal.
No open rebellion.
Just respectable people with misplaced priorities.

What lies in ruins while we panel our own houses?
And what blessing might await if we pick up our tools again?

This week we’re considering a call that still echoes: “Consider your ways.”

Howard Hughes was once one of the richest and most influential men in the world. He possessed enormous wealth, remarkable engineering brilliance, and resources that could shape industries. Yet toward the end of his life he withdrew into fearful isolation, hiding away in darkened hotel rooms while much of what had been entrusted to him sat stagnant and unused. The tragedy was not that he had nothing. The tragedy was that he had so much, yet did so little with it.

Jesus’ parable of the talents carries an even more sobering warning. Read the post or listen to the sermon on our website:

“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God, writes the prophet Isaiah.

Spoken into ruin and exile, yet filled with hope. God comes in power, and with tenderness, to save.

This is a promise fulfilled in Christ, and a hope we can cling to and joyfully proclaim.

Five young women stand in the dark, shut out of a wedding celebration. They were meant to be part of the joy, part of the procession, part of the feast. Instead, they are outside, knocking, pleading. From within comes a chilling reply: “Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.”

What happened?

“Is it possible to receive God’s invitation, and still be excluded from His feast?”

What did Jesus mean when he said, "Many are called, but few are chosen.”

Our latest blog post - a summary of Sunday's sermon - grapples with these questions.

We can be comfortable with Jesus when He remains one voice among many. The real tension emerges when He speaks with final authority into the whole of life, as the cornerstone by which everything else is measured and set in place.

That is exactly what happens in Matthew 21:23–46, where Jesus is confronted in the temple and asked a question that is less about information and more about control: “By what authority are you doing these things?”

We spend our lives trying to outrun death, to silence the quiet reminder that everything is wearing out. But what if the resurrection is not only about what happens after you die, but about how you live right now? What if it speaks into your exhaustion, your limitations, even your fear of death?.

Have you ever prayed for something for a long time and wondered if anyone was listening?

Jesus once told a story about a desperate widow, a corrupt judge, and a question that confronts every believer.

This week’s reflection explores it. Read more in our blog:
