Yes Mr. President, the church is essential—essential yesterday, today, and forever!
The church is essential because it was built by Christ (Matthew 16:18).
The church is essential because it was purchased with the blood of Jesus (Acts 20:28).
The church is essential because Jesus is its head (Ephesians 5:23).
The church is essential because it is the Body of Christ (Colossians 1:18).
The church is essential because this is where the Lord puts those who are saved (Acts 2:47).
The church is:
Cherished by Christ (Ephesians 5:29).
The pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15).
Indestructible (Matthew 16:19).
Where Christ glorifies His Father (Ephesians 3:21).
The church is holy, without spots, wrinkles, or blemishes (Ephesians 5:27).
The church is not a building. The church is an essential “forever family” of believers called out of the world who have a common love, a common bond, a common blood, a common name, a common path, a common mission, and a common destiny.
Buildings may crumble and buildings may close. Buildings are helpful, but not essential. The essential church will never crumble or close.
As the church is essential, so too is every member of the Body (1 Corinthians 12). Every member is made by God, loved by God, inhabited by God, gifted by God, commissioned by God, and saved by God.
If you have yet to become an essential part of the Lord’s essential church, it’s essential that you do so…
In view of your own eternity, carefully examine Acts chapter two. Notice that when these “about 3,000” people repented of their sins and were baptized, they received the forgiveness of sins, the Gift of the Holy Spirit, and admission into the Lord’s church (Acts 2: 37-41, 47).
If we will do as they did we will get what they got!
A final thought…as the church is essential, so is the assembly of the church (Hebrews 10:25). Please, as soon as you can safely do so, assemble! In the assembly God is glorified and the church is edified.
