RBT Passage: Psalms 38-42

THEME: A MOTHER WHO COMFORTS HER CHILD

GOLDEN TEXT: "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem." (Isaiah 66:13, NIV).

TEXT: Isaiah 66:9-13

Isaiah 66:9-13 NIV
[9] Do I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery?” says the Lord. “Do I close up the womb when I bring to delivery?” says your God.

[10] “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her.

[11] For you will nurse and be satisfied at her comforting breasts; you will drink deeply and delight in her overflowing abundance.”

[12] For this is what the Lord says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.

[13] As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

A young boy grew up in Southern California, and he faced challenges from a learning disability that was later identified as dyslexia. However, with his mother's encouragement and guidance, he grew into a strong, capable leader. He became a commander of thousands of American soldiers at war.

Today's passage conveys God's promise of restoration and comfort to Jerusalem and His people. It begins with a rhetorical question affirming that God, who begins a work (like childbirth), will surely complete it. Jerusalem is portrayed as a nurturing mother, offering comfort and abundance to her children. Those who love and mourn for her will rejoice and be satisfied with her blessings. God's peace will overflow like a river, and He will comfort His people as a mother comforts her child. The passage emphasises divine compassion, fulfilment of promises, and the joy and restoration awaiting the faithful in Jerusalem.

God is not unfaithful. He is a responsible Father who cares greatly for His children and will do everything to ensure their well-being. Is Jesus Christ the Lord of your life? If not, there is no better time but now to accept Him as your Saviour and Lord. He is waiting for you with open arms, ready to forgive, restore, and walk with you every step of the way.

Insight: God is a responsible Father. He cares greatly for His children.

Prayer: Comfort, Lord, every troubled heart, and let it be to the glory of Your name.

RBT Passage: Psalms 34-37

THEME: PRAISING GOD FOR HOME AND FAMILY

GOLDEN TEXT: Praise the Lord. Praise the LORD, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord... He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord. (Psalms 113:1, 9 NIV)

TEXT: Psalm 113: 1-9

Psalms 113:1-9 NIV
[1] Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord.

[2] Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.

[3] From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

[4] The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens.

[5] Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high,

[6] Who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

[7] He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

[8] he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people.

[9] He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.

A couple who had been married for thirty-three years had no children, but remained cheerful and generous. Despite societal pressure, they continued to sponsor the education of many young people in their community. One of the neighbours asked about the secret behind their joy and generosity. The couple explained that God was the reason for their existence and happiness. That same year, the couple was blessed with twin children, a boy and a girl.

The Psalmist praised God for many reasons, echoing themes found in Hannah's song of praise at the birth of Samuel. He exalts the Lord above all nations, declaring that there is no one like Him. God stoops down to look upon the heavens and the earth (v. 6), and His gaze is especially drawn to "the poor" who lie "in the dust," on "the needy" who sit in "the ash heap," and, on "the barren woman" who lacks a home and, without children, feels she has nothing to contribute to the society (v. 9).

It does not matter what you or your family members are going through; just as the Psalmist described in today's passage, God lifts the lowly, restores dignity, and brings joy to those forgotten by the world. He has the perfect solution for every problem, and He is always by your side. Keep your focus on Him, and praise Him in all circumstances.

Insight: It is a good thing to praise God for the gift of home and family.

Prayer: God, remember all expectant mothers and grant them joy. Let their hope be fulfilled in Jesus' name.

RBT Passage: Psalms 22-27

THEME: TRUSTING IN A GOD WHO SEES

GOLDEN TEXT: She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her. You are the God who sees me, for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me.' (Genesis 16:13, NIV)

TEXT: Genesis 16:1, 4-16

Genesis 16:1, 4-16 NIV
[1] Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar;

[4] He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. [

5] Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.”

[6] “Your slave is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.

[7] The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.

[8] And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

[9] Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.”

[10] The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

[11] The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.

[12] He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”

[13] She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

[14] That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

[15] So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.

[16] Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

Lysa TerKeurst once said, "When you feel unseen, unheard, or forgotten, remember - God sees, hears, and knows you more deeply than anyone else ever could."

Trusting in a God who sees means resting in His justice, even when others do not notice your integrity or sacrifice. It means believing that your tears are not wasted, that your obedience is not in vain, and that your efforts, no matter how hidden, are seen by the One who rewards openly.

In today's passage, Hagar, Sarai's maid, took advantage of her mistress because of Sarai's barrenness and became pregnant by Abram. She began to despise her mistress and, when this was reported to Abram, Hagar was sent out of the house. Later, an angel met her and instructed her to return and submit to her mistress. Afterwards, she was blessed, and the angel also gave her the name of her unborn child and revealed what would become of him. Hagar was overwhelmed by the encounter and exclaimed in awe at God's greatness and omnipotence.

God sees and knows all things. God, who created the eye and ear, will He not see or hear, even in the darkest of places? No matter how hidden our struggles or sins may seem, nothing escapes His eyes. Repent today, and you will begin to experience restoration and goodness once again.

Insight: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Prayer: Lord, increase my love for You, in Jesus' Name.

RBT Passage: Psalms 18-21

THEME: LEADING A LIFE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

GOLDEN TEXT: He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my law. That man is righteous; he will surely live, declares the Sovereign Lord. (Ezekiel 18:9, NIV)

TEXT: Ezekiel 18:5-9

Ezekiel 18:5-9 NIV
[5] “Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right.

[6] He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife or have sexual relations with a woman during her period.

[7] He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took in pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.

[8] He does not lend to them at interest or take a profit from them. He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between two parties.

[9] He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws. That man is righteous; he will surely live, declares the Sovereign Lord.

Jacob was offered a quick promotion if he kept quiet about a dishonest deal. The temptation was strong, but he remembered his father's words: "Integrity is worth more than gold." He chose to speak the truth, losing the promotion but keeping his peace. Years later, the same company faced a scandal, and Jacob's honesty was remembered. He was promoted, not for silence, but for righteousness. In a world chasing shortcuts, Jacob's life proved that doing right may cost you something but it rewards you more.

Today's passage reveals that anybody who sins shall die. Still, those who do what is just and right, those who avoid idolatry, sexual immorality, oppressing others, dishonesty, bribery, and all forms of defilement will live. A person who follows God's law and decrees is considered righteous and will live. In times like these, when the economic situation has driven many to adopt ungodly practices just to survive, Christians are called to live a different life. Are you living a righteous life? God has called us out of this dark world so that we might shine as lights and live righteous and godly lives. As believers, we are not meant to conform to the things of the world, but to reflect the holiness and truth of Christ. We are to be distinct, shining as lights in a dark world, no matter the cost.

Insight: Righteousness exalts a person. Sin demotes.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace I need to be an ardent follower of Your Word.

RBT Passage: Psalms 9-17

THEME: A LEADER WHO INSPIRES

GOLDEN TEXT: "Then Deborah said to Barak, "Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?" So, Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him." (Judges 4:14, NIV)

TEXT: Judges 4:4-10; 14; 21-22

Judges 4:4-10, 14, 21-22 NIV
[4] Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.

[5] She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.

[6] She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor.

[7] I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’ ”

[8] Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”

[9] “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.

[10] There Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.

[14] Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?” So Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him.

[21] But Jael, Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.

[22] Just then Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and Jael went out to meet him. “Come,” she said, “I will show you the man you’re looking for.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg through his temple—dead.

John C. Maxwell once said, "A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." True leadership goes beyond giving instructions or holding a title it is about inspiring others to believe, act, and grow. An inspirational leader brings vision, courage, and integrity to the table, motivating others not just with words, but through consistent example.

There was a battle that Israel needed to fight, and Barak was appointed to lead. However, he was hesitant and afraid to go. Courage came through Deborah, a prophetess who promised to go with him and assured him that the Lord would fight for Israel. She inspired Barak and provided the necessary support. Together, they went into battle, and by the hand of the Lord, Israel won the victory.

Inspiration is a vital characteristic of a godly leader. Are you an inspirational leader? Do you encourage others toward positive action? Remember, you do not always have to lead from the front; you can lead effectively from behind by supporting, uplifting, and guiding others. Wherever you find yourself, make it a goal to inspire those around you. Draw your strength and inspiration from the Lord, and be willing to offer support in any way you can, so that others may succeed.

Insights: "A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." - John C. Maxwell

RBT Passage: Psalms 1-8

THEME: JESUS, THE PATTERN FOR LEADERS

GOLDEN TEXT: I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." (John 13:15, NIV).

TEXT: John 13:3-17

John 13:3-17 NIV
[3] Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

[4] so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.

[5] After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

[6] He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

[7] Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

[8] “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

[9] “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

[10] Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”

[11] For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

[12] When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.

[13] “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.

[14] Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.

[15] I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

[16] Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

[17] Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

John Maxwell says, "Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another." Leaders are expected to show their followers the right way of doing things by setting an example that can be followed.

In today's passage, Jesus is revealed as the originator of servant-leadership. He introduced, demonstrated, and practiced this new model of leadership in John 13:1-17, where the concept of servant- leadership is clearly illustrated. This pattern of leadership became visible and prominent when Jesus washed the disciples' feet. Jesus displayed love, humility, and service through relationship-building, counsel, mentoring, teaching, and training, which were basic to His interactions with His disciples. This practice is strange to the worldly pattern where individuals often seek positions of power without embracing the accompanying responsibilities, which Jesus condemns. Jesus portrays a kind of leadership expected among His followers, one marked by selfless service, genuine love, and humility in Leadership.

What impact will you make as a leader at any level or in any sphere, to show that you are a faithful follower of Christ? If you are guilty of not embracing Jesus' model of leadership, have a change of mind. Let others see Jesus in you!

Insight: Jesus is the perfect example of a servant-leader to follow.

Prayer: O! Lord, make me an exemplary leader.

RBT Passage: Job 39-42

THEME: A LEADER WHO INTERCEDES

GOLDEN TEXT: Hear us. O! our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders. (Nehemiah, 4:4-5 NIV)

TEXT: Nehemiah 4:1-6

Nehemiah 4:1-6 NIV
[1] When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews,

[2] and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”

[3] Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”

[4] Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity.

[5] Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.

[6] So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

Intercession is a vital role of a Christian leader. It is both an art and an act - the intentional practice of praying on behalf of others. Every true leader must earnestly intercede for those entrusted to their care, standing in the gap through prayer. This is not merely a task but a sacred duty that reflects the heart of Christ, our ultimate intercessor. Genuine leadership is rooted in love, and love expresses itself in prayer.

Nehemiah's love for God's people made him reject the pleasures of the palace. He chose prayer over pleasure. Deeply grieved by the condition of the people, they interceded for the Jews, praying for their repentance from the sins that had brought them to their state of despair. He did not exempt himself from responsibility for the nation's sins. Nehemiah also prayed against the attackers who opposed the rebuilding and sought to discourage the workers with insults and attacks.

Challenges are inevitable in a leader's ministry, as such, leaders must prepare themselves for both seen and unseen difficulties. As a leader, how often do you carry your followers" burden to the throne of grace, seeking mercy? If you have failed in this responsibility, ask God to baptise you with the spirit of intercession

Insight: It takes a committed leader to intercede for the followers effectively.

Prayer: My God, make me an intercessor indeed, in Jesus' name.

RBT Passage: Job 35-38

THEME: A LEADER WHO LISTENS

GOLDEN TEXT: If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favour in his sight... then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, "How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?" It pleased the king to send me, so I set a time. (Nehemiah 2:5-6b, NIV).

TEXT: Nehemiah 2:1-8

Nehemiah 2:1-8 NIV
[1] In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before,

[2] so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid,

[3] but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”

[4] The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven,

[5] and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.”

[6] Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.

[7] I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah?

[8] And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.

Leadership is an opportunity to impact and influence people. A leader should develop the skill of attentive listening as it is essential for effective leadership. By truly hearing their followers' viewpoints, a leader demonstrates respect and creates an environment of openness and trust. Nehemiah was a patriotic leader who was deeply concerned about the plight of his homeland, Jerusalem. Out of great care and compassion, he took time to pray, carefully study the situation, and then followed proper protocol by seeking permission from his superior. God touched the king's heart, and he listened attentively to Nehemiah's request, subsequently granting all that Nehemiah had requested to learn from Nehemiah's example in showing compassion and dedication to our homes, as well as from the king's example of attentive listening to the needs of his people.

As a leader, how much attention do you give to your followers? Can they trust you to take their concerns seriously? Consider the position you are occupying as an opportunity; resolve not to be wise in your own eyes, but to be considerate and compassionate. May the Lord help you become a leader who impacts generations. Amen!

Insights: A good leader learns to harness both the gifts and talents of their followers toward a common goal.

Prayer: O! Lord my Father, grant me a listening ear and make me an effective leader.

RBT Passage: Job 31-34

THEME: LEADERS WHO BUILD OTHER LEADERS

GOLDEN TEXT: "He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately." (.Acts 18:26, NIV)

TEXT: Acts 18:24-28

Acts 18:24-28 NIV
[24] Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.

[25] He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.

[26] He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

[27] When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.

[28] For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.

Adam Grant said, "Good leaders build products. Great leaders build cultures. Good leaders deliver results. Great leaders develop people. Good leaders have vision. Great leaders have values. Good leaders are role models at work. Great leaders are role models in life."

In today's passage, Priscilla and Aquila, a missionary couple, took notice of the zeal of Apollo while he was preaching about Christ. They observed his passion for Christ but also recognised that his understanding of Christ was incomplete. As experienced elders in the faith, they saw his potential for ministry and leadership and invited him to learn more about the ways of the Lord. He was not condemned but corrected and taught, and this helped him become a better preacher and leader.

Great leaders see beyond the weaknesses of their followers and recognise the potential within them. They can turn weaklings into strong pillars of faith. They are not intimidated by the growing popularity of their subordinates but support and build them to reach their full potential. Good leaders like Priscilla and Aquila are visionary and selfless in their pursuit of developing more leaders. What type of leader do you hope to become? What qualities do you aspire to have as a leader? What kind of leadership style do you aim to develop?

Insight: Good leaders multiply more leaders.

Prayer: Lord, help our leaders to be godly and to raise more godly leaders.

RBT Passage: Job 25-30

THEME: A LEADER WHO CARES

GOLDEN TEXT: "In Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor" (Acts 9:36, NIV).

TEXT: Acts 9:36-42

Acts 9:36-42 NIV
[36] In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor.

[37] About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.

[38] Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

[39] Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

[40] Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

[41] He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.

[42] This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.

Andrew was a Christian leader serving as the Student Union secretary at a leading university. Among the other leaders, Andrew was different. While some planned to misappropriate the funds contributed by the students, Andrew would calmly remind them that, "We are elected to serve and to care for the smallest needs of the students who entrusted us with this mandate." Through his bold and selfless efforts, many students' needs were met. As a result, he was voted and awarded the leader of the year.

Like Andrew, Dorcas was known to be a woman full of good deeds, with a special ministry to the poor. As a prominent and one of the richest women in Joppa, she used her resources to make life better for others. She also ministered to the needs of widows, personally sewing and providing clothes for them. Unfortunately, she died and her beneficiaries could not bear to let her go. They gathered around, mourning and testifying to how much she had cared for them. In the end, Peter prayed for her and God miraculously brought her back to life.

When God entrusts people with leadership responsibility, they become His eyes to see, His heart to show compassion, His ears to listen, and His hands to support those in need. The leadership platform should be used to transform the lives of its followers not otherwise.

Insight: A leader should put the needs of others first and show concern and commitment to them.

Prayer: Lord, by Your grace, make me a caring leader to those I am leading.

Study; meditate; trust; obey. Shalom
