Effective Preaching Guidelines1. Carry a Motherly Presence (for women preachers)
- Dress modestly so that no one is distracted by your appearance.
- Let your focus be on the message, not your figure.
2. Step onto the Pulpit with Substance
- Never appear empty-handed; always carry something valuable to share.
- Read widely—books build depth, while relying on video sermons leads to imitation.
Reading is the safest space for a preacher.
3. Answer People’s Questions
- Avoid preaching mere opinions; address real questions people have.
- Ask yourself: Which question am I answering in this sermon?
4. Use Stories Wisely
- Avoid too many personal stories unless led by the Holy Spirit.
- Keep language pure—no vulgar, erotic, or obscene terms.
- Package every illustration to fit your audience without causing discomfort.
5. Preach with Scripture
- Never preach without grounding your message in the Bible.
- Validate every statement with Scripture; read as many verses as needed to defend your thesis.
6. Engage with Eye Contact
- Look into people’s eyes when ministering—it builds connection and trust.
7. Dress Officially and Neatly
- Appear well-prepared and polished; avoid looking like you struggled to dress.
8. Carry a Physical Bible
- Whether you use gadgets or notes, always bring a physical Bible to the podium.
9. Close with Activation
- Don’t crash-land your sermon—activate the Word through prayer, an altar call, or a clear instruction for response.
