Within our church tradition John Calvin is (arguably) the most influential Theologian so if you're looking to understand a little more about reformed theology he's your guy.

We are committed to the system of doctrine contained in the Westminster Standards believing them to be an accurate restatement of the theology of the Bible.

Q. 86. What is faith in Jesus Christ?
A. Faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace, whereby we receive and rest upon him alone for salvation, as he is offered to us in the gospel.

“Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in[a] Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.”- Galatians 2:16

Do you believe in miracles?

If God can do the miraculous why doesn't he bring relief from suffering now?

In a recent sermon from our Acts series (5:12-16) Stephen spoke on Miracles today:

✨”Miracles seem to mark out important moments in the story of redemption in the Bible. As we see the miracles happening we are called to take note of Gods work.”

✨”Miracles are used interchangeably with the word ‘signs’ because signs point beyond themselves to greater realities. Miracles point to the person and work of Jesus.”

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month & a few weeks ago we had a seminar on mental health from one of our members, Dr. Kirsten Reid.

Here are some talk takeaways 🍕🍟🍔🍗

There is often a stigma that comes with mental illness but this is a result of a lack of understanding about it.

Medical science has a better grasp on the way the brain works (although there are still more questions than answers) which means that there is enough knowledge to identify and treat mental illnesses.

The biblical view is that the body and soul are distinct but inseparable.

When dealing with mental illness the person struggling needs to be treated as a whole, body and mind.

Physical health will have an effect on mental health and vice versa.

Things you may not be expecting when you visit Union for the first time:

We take communion every week (protocol is- walk to the front to fetch the bread and grape juice before returning to our seats & taking them together).

The children stay in for most of the service (parents sign their kids in and out of Sunday school).

Our service follows a liturgy which means that every week we keep to a pattern of: Call to worship; Songs; Pastoral & corporate prayer; Reading & teaching of Scripture; Confession; Assurance; Lord’s Supper; Benediction.

A quote from Stephen on how to truly be "you":

"If I say my identity is rooted in being a good person, loving others, serving the poor, pursuing justice - then I constantly have to live up to those ideals to feel like it's an authentic identity.
And who knows how high the bar is on each of those things - when have I done enough good to feel settled in my identity rather than a fraud?"

Coming to Union with kids?

We focus on discipleship for all ages so, if you have little people in your family, know that we take teaching children about Jesus very seriously.

We have two classes that run during the service: Tiny Kids (age 2-5), Primary Kids (6-10), and a class for Pre-teens/teens (age 11-14) before the service begins on a Sunday (but only during the school term).

If you've done a little digging about what we believe you probably already know that we’re a Presbyterian church.

Because of this we are governed by a group of Elders who have been tasked with: overseeing the pastoral ministry, making sure that the teaching and doctrine of the church is aligned to Biblical standards, the regular preaching of God’s Word (for a few elders in particular), and the administering of the sacraments on a Sunday.

We also have Deacons who help our Elders by tending to various practical concerns in the church, particularly the material care of those in need.

We love talking about church governance and we think it's really important so if you have any questions please send them to our Dms.

At Union Chapel we believe that the gospel has created a community, a new people, who have turned from seeking their own justification, to living out together the justification that Christ brings.

We are convinced that biblical community is an identity and because of this new identity we aim to share our lives together as extended family, loving, supporting, and encouraging each other as we seek to love Christ and love his world.

Is this something you’re looking for?

We’d love to have you visit us this coming Sunday to find out more about our community.
