BIOGRAPHY OF RCCG FOUNDER
Pa Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi

Pa Josiah Akindayomi was born in 1909. He grew up as an idol worshipper but he later converted to Christianity out of a yearning to know “The God who created the earth and everyone on it”. He was baptized in 1927 in the Church Missionary Society.

He joined the Cherubim and Seraphim church in 1931 because he was not fulfilled as a Christian in the CMS. While in the C & S church,he said a voice told him that “You will by My servant”. The RCCG was founded by Pa Josiah Akindayomi who came from Ondo State in the western part of Nigeria. . Since this was not his intention, he ignored the voice and went into business ventures for seven years. During this period, all of his businesses ventures failed. This broke him completely. He finally yielded to God saying, “Lord, I will go wherever you want me to go.” He asked for signs to confirm that this was indeed God’s call.

The confirmation came through the Bible passages of Jeremiah 1:4-10, Isaiah 41:10-13 and Romans 8:29-31. He continued to worship with the Cherubim and Seraphim. In 1947, he started to become concerned that the church was departing from the true Word of God in some of its practices. By 1952, he felt totally persuaded to leave the church. He started at Willoughby Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos a housefellowship called, the Glory of God Fellowship. Initially there were nine members but before long the fellowship rapidly grew as the news of the miracles that occurred in their midst spread.

Pa Akindayomi, who was an illiterate, one day proclaimed that he got a revelation from God about the renaming of the church The Redeemed Christian Church of God, which is now a household name in many countries. It is claimed that God made a covenant with Pa Akindayomi that is synonymous to Abraham’s covenant. He said that He the Lord would meet all the needs of the church in an awesome way if only members would serve Him faithfully and be obedient to His Word. It is upon this covenant that the Redeemed Christian Church of God was built.

Thus in 1952, The Redeemed Christian Church Of God was born. The church continued to meet at 9 Willoughby Street until they relocated to 1-5 Redemption Way (formerly 1a Cemetery Street). Pa Josiah Akindayomi Sometime in the early 70s, Pa Akindayomi claimed that God had spoken to him about his successor. He claimed that The Lord told him that this man, who was not a member of the church then, would be a young educated man.

Thus when a young university lecturer joined the church in 1973, Papa was able,as was claimed, to recognize him in the Spirit as the one that the Lord had spoken about in the past. This man, Enoch Adejare Adeboye who was then a lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Lagos soon became involved in the church. He became one of the interpreters translating Pa Akindayomi’s sermons from Yoruba to English. He was ordained a pastor of the church in 1975.

As Papa was preparing to meet his Creator, he sent for Pastor Adeboye and spent several hours sharing with him details of the covenant and the plans of the Lord for the church. Even though a year before this, the Lord had revealed to Pastor Adeboye that he would be Papa’s successor, it was still too difficult for him to fully contemplate such an awesome responsibility.

Pa Josiah Akindayomi was 71 years old when he died. Amidst controversy, Pastor Adeboye’s appointment was formalized by the reading of Pa Akindayomi’s sealed pronouncement after his burial.

Since 1981, an open explosion began with the number of parishes growing in leaps and bounds. At the last count, there are over 2000 parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria. On the International scene, the church is present in other African nations including C’ote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Gambia, Cameroon, and South Africa. In Europe the church is spread in England, Germany, and France. In the United States there are parishes in Dallas, Tallahassee, Houston, New York, Washington, Maryland, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Delaware, DC, New Jersey, Rhode Island, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Chicago (in fact nearly all the states in the United State) and also in the Caribbean states of Haiti and Jamaica. One of the well-known programs of the church is the Holy Ghost Service, an all night miracle service that holds on the first Friday of every month at the Redemption Camp at km. 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The Holy Ghost Service now holds in London quarterly and in other parts of the world. Another major service is the Holy Ghost congress which holds in the second week of December every year at the Redemption Camp.

Some of the said promises of the Lord to the RCCG are as follows: 1. That He will meet this Church on His return. 2. That this Church will become a model to the whole world. 3. That other Churches from all over the world would come to learn and worship in this Church.

October 17th, 2021.

Topic: THE POWER OF CRYING OUT

Text: Psalm 50:15; Jeremiah 33:3; Psalm 34:17; 56:9

The MESSAGE:

Today is the closing prayer for the annual seventy days prayer and fasting program and I want to specially congratulate all those who have taken part in it. I know that your lives will no longer remain the same.

Today is a marathon prayer session. Very soon, those prayers will start. Do not joke with any prayer point you hear. Pray them with fire and power. Pray them with all your heart.

I am going to share a short message now, then I am going to ask you to pray seven strange prayers, then you will go on with the rest of the prayers.

Throughout history, believers have cried to God in times of distress. Sometimes after years and years of praying, a single cry brings direction or deliverance instantly. It is interesting to know, looking at the Bible that such powerful results come from crying out to God.

>>> I see somebody here this morning, as you cry out, your cry shall put a brake on what they are doing to attend to your case.

Therefore throughout scriptures, if you are a good Bible reader, believers are instructed to cry out to God. We are instructed to cry out to God in times of trouble. Let us see a few examples.

Shout this scripture loud and clear:
"When I cry out unto thee, then shall my enemies turn back; this I know, for God is for me."

To cry out means to implore with a strong voice. The Greek language calls it "Bohao". That blind man at Jericho, Bartimaeus did not pray his prayers, he cried the prayers; he did a Bohao there and Jesus said "receive thy sight".

Crying to God:
- Is an act of desperation and total concentration.

- Is a fervent expression of faith and trust in His goodness and ability to answer on your behalf.

- Exhibits genuine humility. It means you unconditionally surrender to God.

- Is a plea for mercy.

- Is telling God "I am helpless, you must help me now".

- Is faith in God's power. Remember Peter at that sea. When he was sinking, he cried out "Lord help me!" And that cry drew attention to him.

So a desperate cry is a need of the hour in our prayers. The Psalmist declared "in my distress I called upon the Lord and cried unto my God: He heard me out of His temple; and my cry came before Him, even to His ears". (Psalm 18:6).

So the Bible is filled with examples of people who cried to God and got results.

- Elijah called out in 1 Kings 2 and a dead child came back to life.

- Jehoshaphat cried to God and God delivered him from death in 2 Chronicles 18.

- Hezekiah cried to God and the Lord gave him victory in 2 Chronicles 32.

- The disciples of Jesus cried to Him in a storm and Jesus calmed the sea.

- Blind Bartimaeus cried to Jesus and Jesus came to his help.

You have a mouth, you have a weapon.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH KATRYN KULHMAN - PART 1

If you had the opportunity to ask Mama Katryn Kulhman any question, what would you ask?

There might be so many questions brooding in your heart and to answer some, we have put up an interview with Mama Katryn Kulhman, to intimate us on how she scaled through the hurdles of life in her ministry and walk with the Holy Ghost.

Okay, so without further ado, let's head straight to the interview.

S.B: MAMA, DO YOU BELIEVE YOU WERE GOD'S FIRST CHOICE FOR HIS MINISTRY IN HIS MIGHTY WAVE OF REVIVAL?

“I’ll tell you something very confidentially—the true conviction of my heart.
I do not believe I was God’s first choice in the ministry he has chosen for these last days. It’s my firm conviction. You’ll never argue me out of this conviction, never.

I’m not quite sure whether I was God’s second choice, or even His third choice. Because I really believe the job I am doing is a man’s job. I work hard. Few people know how hard I really work—sixteen, seventeen hours a day. I can outwork five men put together, and I’ll challenge you on this.

But no man was willing to pay the price. I was just naïve enough to say “Take nothing, and use it.” And He has been doing that ever since”

S.B: WOW, "TAKE NOTHING, AND USE IT", THAT'S A STRONG COMMITMENT. SO, MAMA PLEASE TELL US: HOW HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU MADE THAT COMMITMENT TO GOD, LIKE CAN YOU GIVE US A PICTURE OF HOW YOUR LIFE HAS BEEN SINCE THEN?

I had had a busy week filled with calls from all over the world—an invitation to Australia, three from England, a call from a prominent pastor urging me to come to Sweden, and one to minister in Norway.
In that early morning hour, weary in body, for I had had only a little rest, I found myself weeping, my tears falling on my open Bible.

Alone in the house I looked up and spoke audibly to my Heavenly Father, just as though I could see Him. I asked: “Why didn’t You allow all of this to happen to me when I was sixteen or seventeen years old? I never got tired in body then. Why did You wait so long?”.

This is what He said: “Kathryn, had I given it to you then, you would have blown the whole thing.”

I was stunned for a moment, but I knew exactly what God meant. Exactly! There had to be a growing process first, a time of learning, a time of schooling. But He did not choose to send me to some seminary, nor to a university. I was given the greatest Teacher in the whole world—the Holy Spirit.”

S.B: GLORY TO GOD! MAMA, IN HAVING THE HOLY SPIRIT AS YOUR TEACHER, WHAT IS YOUR PRAYER SCHEDULE LIKE?

I pray all the time, because if I limited the Holy Spirit to a certain number of hours a day, I would be in danger of using Him for my own purpose.

If, for instance, I spent one hour a day in prayer, I would expect the Holy Spirit to reward me for that hour. I would begin to feel that it was that hour in prayer that caused the “anointing” in the meeting.

No, I cannot use the Holy Spirit in that way. I must practice His presence all of the time.”

S.B: TRUE, WE MUST PRACTICE HIS PRESENCE ALL THE TIME.
MAMA, YOU MENTIONED "THE ANOINTING", PLEASE TELL US, WHAT PRICE DID YOU PAY FOR THE GREAT FLOW OF THE ANOINTING THROUGH YOUR LIFE?

“It costs everything. If you really want to know the price, it will cost you everything. Kathryn Kuhlman died a long time ago. I know the day, I know the hour. I can go to the spot where Kathryn Kuhlman died.

For me it was easy because I had nothing. I know better than anyone else from whence I come, a little cross-road town in Missouri, a population of 1,200 people. I had nothing. I was born without talent. Most people are born with something. I didn’t even have hair on my head when I was born, just red fuzz.

One day I just looked up and said, “Wonderful Jesus I have nothing. I have nothing to give you but my love. That’s all I can give you. And I love you with all my heart. I give you my body, a living sacrifice. If you can take nothing and use it, then here is nothing. Take it.”

It isn’t silver vessels He is asking for; it isn’t golden vessels that He needs. He just needs yielded vessels.”

S.B: "HE JUST NEEDS YIELDED VESSELS. THAT'S VERY TRUE.
MAMA, FROM THIS POINT OF YIELDING YOUR ALL, WHAT HAPPENED NEXT, LIKE IN TERMS OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT?

“I recall my thoughts after I had finished my fifth sermon. I was walking down the road on my way back to the room where I spent the night and I wondered: “What more can I preach about? There isn’t anything else in the Bible. I have absolutely exhausted the supply of sermons. For the life of me, I can’t think of anything else to preach about.”

It makes me smile to remember these thoughts, for since that time the Holy Spirit has revealed many deep truths, and I have still only scratched the surface. Do you know the secret? I have grown. If you are a healthy Christian and there is Jesus’ divine life in you, there will be spiritual growth and development.

Today I can take you down a dead-end street in a certain town in a certain state where I surrendered everything to Jesus—body, soul, and spirit. As I walked there with tears streaming down my face, for the first time in my life it was none of self and all of Him. When I made that full and complete surrender of everything to Jesus, the Holy Spirit took the empty vessel—and that’s all that He asks. That day was the dawn of the greatest day of my life. I had no real ministry until I walked down that little dead-end road and surrendered everything to Him.”

SB: HMM!! SURRENDER, THAT MUST TAKEN A HUGE AMOUNT OF FAITH. PLEASE MAMA, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, WHAT IS FAITH?

“Young man, faith is when you quit believing what you see, and start seeing what you believe!”

“Always keep in mind that we serve a Person, not a thing. This wonderful experience of being born again, this life of holiness, this walk of victory is a relationship with a Person, not a thing.

It is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself who comes, not so much for us to possess Him, but that He may possess us. He cannot slip from our grasp. HE HOLDS US.

He has promised, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).”
