A NEW SEASON OF WORSHIP

We are delighted to announce that Stephen Vermeulen has been appointed as the Worship Leader of our assembly.

On behalf of the congregation, we bless Stephen as he accepts this important responsibility. May the Lord grant him wisdom, humility, grace and a fresh anointing as he leads us in sincere, Christ-centred worship.

Worship is more than music—it is the offering of our hearts and lives to God. We pray that Stephen’s ministry will encourage the congregation, strengthen our unity and bring glory to Jesus Christ.

Stephen, thank you for your willingness to serve. We stand with you, pray for you and bless you in the name of Jesus.

PERFECT CONTRITION - A PURE LOVE OF GOD

This morning I reflected on the meaning of contrition.

In Christian understanding, contrition is deep sorrow over sin, accompanied by genuine repentance and a firm resolve to turn away from it.

At the heart of contrition is the love of Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the redemption of our sins.

Perfect contrition flows from a pure love for God. It says:

> “Lord, I want to change—not merely because I fear punishment, but because I love You. I do not want sin to grieve Your heart or damage my fellowship with You.”

True repentance changes both our attitude and our behaviour. It turns us away from self and makes us increasingly Christ-centred.

There is also what is traditionally called "imperfect contrition", or "attrition"—sorrow for sin motivated primarily by fear of punishment. Scripture tells us that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). Jesus also reminds us not to fear those who can kill the body, but to fear God, who has authority over both body and soul (Matthew 10:28).

Holy fear may awaken us, but love should mature us.

So, this morning, ask yourself:

Am I turning from sin because I love God and do not want to grieve Him—or am I only concerned about punishment?

Fear may bring us to repentance, but love draws us into a deeper, Christ-centred relationship with God.
