Beloved, do not believe every spirit [speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet]; instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world. They [who teach twisted doctrine] are of the world and belong to it; therefore they speak from the [viewpoint of the] world [with its immoral freedom and baseless theories—demanding compliance with their opinions and ridiculing the values of the upright], and the [gullible one of the] world listens closely and pays attention to them.

I would like to warn Christians of false prophets as Jesus has done in Mathew 24. One of so many ways to identify them is as said in verse 5. Usually you will be forced hear/listen to their doctrine. They send messages to people telling them to forward them unless they will die/ becoming poor/sick etc. They instill fear in people who will then spread those messages/prophesies thus forcing the world to hear/listen to them. Some uses intellectual theories. Be careful.
