Daily Dose: “The Purpose of Work”
Scripture Reading:
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
Reflection:
Good morning fellow kingdom builders!
Today, let’s take a moment to reflect on the purpose of work, especially in the context of the challenges many young people face today, such as high unemployment rates and the temptation to take shortcuts. God designed us to work and fulfill our divine purpose. Work is not a burden; it is a privilege that allows us to express our talents and contribute to His kingdom and the world around us. Remember, we don’t just have to work; we get to work! This shift in perspective can transform how you approach your daily tasks.
Work gives us purpose:
Work provides us with purpose and gives us a reason to wake up each morning. It aligns us with God’s plan for our lives. So, let’s view work not as a curse but as an integral part of our life purpose. Work hard and work with integrity.
Your work ethic is a value add to your reputation:
If you currently have a job, even if it’s not your dream position or paying what you hoped, approach it with diligence. Your work ethic and reputation matter more than your current salary. The Bible reminds us that “a good name is more desirable than great riches” (Proverbs 22:1). This means that how you conduct yourself in your work will have a lasting impact, even if the rewards aren’t immediately visible.
Start small and grow:
For those of you with a business or side hustle that isn’t generating significant profit yet, remember that growth takes time. At Berea Congregational Church, we promote an annual campaign called ‘Leadership in the Marketplace’ every May, which focuses on biblical teachings for business and supports our members’ entrepreneurial efforts. It’s okay to start small and grow. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” but every day, the builders laid bricks. The Bible also teaches us not to despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10).
Now that you’ve found a job or business to pursue, do it “with all your might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Keep giving your best effort and trust that God will take care of the rest. He is faithful and sees all your hard work behind the scenes. The late nights, the early mornings, and the extra effort you put in to finish tasks. God recognizes your diligence and will reward your hard work in His perfect timing. So rise each day, ready to grind, and remember that every step you take is a step toward your success.
Motivational Quote:
“Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.” (Chris Grosser)
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of work and the purpose You have placed in our lives. Help us to embrace our responsibilities with joy and dedication. May we find fulfillment in our efforts and recognize that our work is an opportunity to glorify You. Guide us in our pursuits and empower us to create opportunities for ourselves and others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
