DAY ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN OF BECOMING

What now? The pressure is not the problem

One of the most fascinating parts of a potter’s process is something most people never see.

Before clay can become a vessel, the potter must remove the air pockets hidden beneath the surface. This process is called wedging. The clay is folded, pressed, stretched, turned, and worked repeatedly by the potter’s hands. To an untrained eye, it can look unnecessary, even harsh. Yet every experienced potter understands that if those hidden pockets remain buried inside the clay, the vessel may look beautiful on the outside, but when it enters the fire, it can crack, shatter, or even explode under the pressure of the kiln. The danger was never on the surface. The danger was what was hidden within.

There is a profound spiritual parallel in that process because many people want God to shape them quickly, bless them quickly, elevate them quickly, and use them quickly, yet they become frustrated when He begins pressing on areas they would rather avoid. We pray for purpose, but God starts addressing pride. We pray for increase, but God starts exposing insecurity. We pray for influence, but God starts dealing with unforgiveness. We pray for promotion, but God starts confronting character. The reason is simple. The Potter knows what we cannot see. He understands that hidden things eventually become dangerous things when pressure arrives.

That is why some seasons feel uncomfortable. God is not punishing you. He is preparing you. He is pressing on places that seem insignificant now but could become destructive later. He is removing pockets of fear, bitterness, self reliance, pride, woundedness, and unbelief that would eventually compromise the vessel He is creating. What feels like pressure is often protection. What feels like disruption is often preparation.

What makes Jeremiah’s encounter with the Potter so powerful is that when the vessel became marred in the Potter’s hand, the Potter did not throw the clay away. He reworked it. That truth carries so much hope because some people are discouraged by the unexpected turns their lives have taken. There were mistakes, disappointments, betrayals, losses, poor decisions, and painful seasons that left them feeling damaged. They look at the broken pieces and assume God is finished with them.

Yet the beauty of the Potter is that He does not see damaged clay the way we do. Where we see failure, He sees possibility. Where we see wasted years, He sees material. Where we see a ruined vessel, He sees something that can still be reshaped. The enemy wants people to believe that being broken disqualifies them, but the Potter understands that surrendered clay is still workable clay. As long as the clay remains in His hands, the story is not over.

Many people spend their lives resisting the very process that is meant to prepare them. They complain about the pressure, question the stretching, and resent the seasons where God seems to be disrupting everything familiar. Yet the clay never argues with the Potter because the clay does not possess the perspective the Potter does. The Potter sees the finished vessel while the clay only feels the pressure. He sees the purpose hidden within the process, the beauty hidden within the breaking, and the strength hidden within the stretching.

That is why hope is found in the Potter’s hand. Hope is not found in your circumstances, your current condition, or how much progress you think you have made. Hope is found in the fact that the One shaping your life knows exactly what He is creating, even when you cannot yet recognise it yourself.

BCF Family, let’s do something intentional today.

Stop viewing every uncomfortable season as evidence that something is wrong. Ask God to show you what He may be removing, strengthening, healing, or refining beneath the surface. Trust His process even when it feels uncomfortable.

Bring your broken places before Him honestly. The areas you are most tempted to hide may be the very places He wants to reshape. Do not pull away from the Potter’s hand simply because the process feels painful. The clay’s greatest security is not found in its own strength, but in the hands that are shaping it.

The growing continues.

Day One Hundred and Eighteen has begun. Stay on the wheel. Walk it out.
