SERMON: I AM WITH YOU

Isaiah 41:10 — NIV

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Introduction

There are moments when life can make us afraid.

We fear what might happen tomorrow.
We fear losing what we have.
We fear sickness.
We fear failure.
We fear rejection.
We fear bad news.
We fear situations that are beyond our control.

But notice something important about Isaiah 41:10.

God does not begin by explaining what is going to happen.

He begins by telling His people who will be with them.

He says:

“DO NOT FEAR, FOR I AM WITH YOU.”

God’s answer to fear is His presence.

The promise is not that you will never enter a difficult season.

The promise is:

You will never enter that season alone.

1. DO NOT FEAR — FOR I AM WITH YOU

God does not simply say:

“Do not fear.”

He gives us a reason:

“For I am with you.”

The courage of the believer is not based on the absence of trouble.

Our courage comes from the presence of God in the trouble.

David understood this when he said:

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” — Psalm 23:4

David did not say there was no valley.

He said:

God was with him in the valley.

Sometimes God doesn’t immediately remove the valley.

Sometimes He walks through it with you.

You may be facing something tonight that you never expected.

But God says:

“I AM WITH YOU.”

When you walk into that meeting — I am with you.

When you receive difficult news — I am with you.

When people turn against you — I am with you.

When you don’t know what tomorrow holds — I am with you.

2. DO NOT BE DISMAYED — I AM YOUR GOD

The Lord continues:

“Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

To be dismayed is to become discouraged, distressed or overwhelmed by what you see around you.

Sometimes our problem is not only what is happening.

Our problem is that we keep looking at what is happening until we forget who our God is.

Peter walked on water while his attention was on Jesus.

But Matthew 14:30 says:

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid…”

The wind became bigger in Peter’s eyes than the One who called him.

And that can happen to us.

We look at the problem.

We look at the bank account.

We look at the doctor’s report.

We look at the opposition.

We look at the circumstances.

Until the problem looks enormous and God looks small.

But God says:

“I AM YOUR GOD.”

Your situation may be bigger than you.

But it is not bigger than your God.

3. I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU

God says:

“I will strengthen you…”

Notice He does not say:

“You must always be strong.”

He says:

“I WILL strengthen you.”

There are times when your own strength will run out.

There are moments when you become tired.

Tired of fighting.

Tired of waiting.

Tired of carrying responsibilities.

Tired of being strong for everybody else.

And sometimes we think that weakness means we have failed.

But Paul learned something powerful:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sometimes you discover God’s strength only after you have reached the end of your own.

When you say:

“Lord, I cannot do this anymore.”

God says:

“Now allow Me to strengthen you.”

4. I WILL HELP YOU

Then God makes another promise:

“I will help you.”

What beautiful words.

The Creator of heaven and earth says:

“I WILL HELP YOU.”

There are situations where people cannot help you.

Money cannot help you.

Connections cannot help you.

Your position cannot help you.

Your experience cannot help you.

But David declared:

“My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:2

God may send help through people.

He may open a door.

He may provide resources.

He may give wisdom.

He may change circumstances.

Or He may give you supernatural strength to endure.

But however He chooses to do it, His promise remains:

“I WILL HELP YOU.”

5. I WILL UPHOLD YOU

Finally God says:

“I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

There is a difference between God helping you walk and God holding you when you cannot walk anymore.

There will be moments when you feel as though you are falling.

Your faith may feel weak.

Your heart may be broken.

Your strength may disappear.

But God says:

“I will uphold you.”

In other words:

When you cannot hold yourself together, I will hold you.

Psalm 37:23–24 says:

“Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

You may stumble.

But you are still in His hand.

You may cry.

But you are still in His hand.

You may not understand.

But you are still in His hand.

You may feel weak.

But you are still in His hand.

AND WHAT GOD HOLDS, HE DOES NOT EASILY LET GO.

6. FIVE PROMISES FOR YOUR DIFFICULT SEASON

Isaiah 41:10 gives us five powerful assurances:

1. I AM WITH YOU — His presence.

2. I AM YOUR GOD — His relationship.

3. I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU — His power.

4. I WILL HELP YOU — His provision.

5. I WILL UPHOLD YOU — His protection.

Look at how personal this verse is.

God does not merely say:

“I am with people.”

He says:

“I am with YOU.”

He doesn’t only say:

“I am God.”

He says:

“I am YOUR God.”

Conclusion: YOU ARE NOT GOING ALONE

Maybe you are entering a new week with uncertainty.

Maybe there is something waiting for you tomorrow that concerns you.

Maybe you are carrying something nobody else knows about.

God may not tell you tonight exactly how everything will work out.

But He gives you something greater than an explanation.

He gives you His presence.

So when fear says:

“What if something goes wrong?”

Faith answers:

“GOD IS WITH ME.”

When anxiety says:

“How will I manage?”

Faith answers:

“GOD WILL STRENGTHEN ME.”

When the problem says:

“Nobody can help you.”

Faith answers:

“GOD WILL HELP ME.”

And when weakness says:

“You are going to fall.”

Faith answers:

“GOD WILL UPHOLD ME.”

Church, we don’t know everything tomorrow will bring.

But we know Who is already there.

Therefore:

Do not fear.
Do not be dismayed.
Keep walking.
Keep believing.
Keep trusting.

Because the Lord says:

“I AM WITH YOU.”

Closing declaration

I will not fear, because God is with me.
I will not give up, because God will strengthen me.
I will not lose hope, because God will help me.
And when I become weak, God will uphold me.

I AM NOT ALONE.
GOD IS WITH ME.

Amen.
